Day 168-Good 3 mile jog

Monday, May 14, 2012

It's a little warm out there today, temps in the 80's. Fortunately, the humidity isn't bad, so I went for a jog. I was able to do 3 miles today in 41 minutes. My miles were: 13:10, 14:15, 13:55. These are pretty normal times for me.

My weekend was good. Work was busy at times, but not horrible. I counted last weekend as my "Mother's Day" when we went to the movies and had ice cream afterward. The family still did something nice for me, though. Saturday night when I drove into the driveway, I noticed the new sidewalk lights were placed (the solar kind). I guess Pat and Mikey assembled and placed those. That lit the way to the flowers the family had planted for me in some of my planters. Last year with impending floods in our area, I just never got around to planting. Not that we were in danger of flooding, we weren't, but we spent a lot of time helping others prepare. So now I have some nice flowers brightening up our entryway. That was a very nice Mother's Day surprise.

And how very sweet their Mother's Day gift is - one that will last for quite some time!

Sounds like Mother's Day was a nice celebration at your house this year. I find that Mother's Day is much more about my hubby and I's moms rather than me at this point in our lives. But my children showered me with lots of hugs and beautiful cards and gave me "cheerful obedience" all day long, which was enough of a gift for me!

Day 166

Saturday, May 12, 2012

10 min on the elliptical today. Other news: I avoided all kinds of cookies and treats at work last night. It was tough since I was really craving those things. That was probably because I forgot to take my morning doses of thyroid/hydrocortisone/iodine etc... That explains a lot about how tired I was yesterday. I still did NOT eat any of those bad things and just ate the food I brought to work. Thankfully, I brought several snacks, or I never would have made it.

Well if you are anything like me and were already craving the sweets then you probably couldn't have stopped with just one so it's definitely better not to have any at all. Way to go! Have a beautiful Mother's Day!

Day 165

Friday, May 11, 2012

Oops! I didn't mean to mislead everyone yesterday. I'm not training for a half marathon. I haven't even run an official 5k race yet. Family commitments always come first. I'd love to train for a 10k. With my longer jogs this year, I think I could do that.

Today I'm running out of time. I have to go to work soon, so I did a quick 10 minutes on the elliptical.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Have a great weekend! BTW My husband and I watched Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead and we were really impressed with it. My husband has something going on in his gut where EVERYTHING he eats seems to make him sick with pain and reflux and diarrhea, etc. So now we have bought a juicer off craigslist and he is considering doing a 10 day reboot and cleanse to see if it helps his symptoms. It's either that or go to the GI doc again. $$Ugh$$

Day 164-13 miles jogged this week, half marathon in four days

Thursday, May 10, 2012

I realized as I was jogging my planned three miles today, that if I extended by just a half mile, my total would be 13 miles in four days. So today, I totaled 3.5 miles in 49 minutes. I did this in intervals, one mile, one mile, 1.5 miles. In between jogging intervals, I did weights (chest press, delt press, bicep curls, quads), and crunches (regular, bicycle, reverse), and then stretched when I was done. Feels great to get all of this done. I work this weekend, so I'll have shorter workouts to keep my streak going. My total time for the 13 miles was 178 minutes (just under three hours). I have a friend who just ran a half marathon and she did it in 2.5 hours, a slow time for her. She isn't overweight like I am, and she's been running a lot longer than me. I also know that some of my jogs have felt slower this week for whatever reason. I'll keep an eye on my trends from week to week. I hope I can get out to jog a lot. It makes the biggest difference in my body out of all my exercises.

At first when I read the title of your blog I thought you were going to be running a half marathon four days from now and were training for it. ;-) I guess that is definitely something you could have as a goal. As it is I think it is great that you are so motivated. Great Job!
