Day 160-Fun Family night last night

After soccer, napping, and a quick workout, we did decide to go out last evening. We took the whole family to see "The Avengers." We even got popcorn and drinks for the full movie experience. What a fun evening! All the kids enjoyed the movie, although there were a few parts that may have been a little scary for the twins. Overall, just regular super hero stuff. No one had night mares, so I may be over protective here. There was humor mixed in the action scenes too, and those are the parts the kids remember most. We all enjoyed it!

Afterward we went to Culvers for dinner and dessert. We will never go there again for a meal. I felt like the old Wendy's commercials, "Where's the beef?" The hamburgers were pathetic! The ice cream, on the other hand, was delicious. Still a fun evening with the family.

Today for my workout, Stevie wanted to do Zumba with me. He's ten. We did a 20 minute intermediate routine. He's fun, but he doesn't know how to dance, so it was very funny! We had some good laughs.

    My children have always loved to workout with me. I finally stopped coaching them on form because I have noticed that as they get older they naturally learn to watch and listen to the instructor on the DVD more and more. My 12-year-old regularly gets in a good workout with me, but yesterday my 4-year-old was doing romanian dead lifts with a 5 pound kettlebell and she was so adorable! :-)

Day 159

Saturday, May 05, 2012

We had soccer games this morning, 30 minutes away from town. It was hot out there! Stevie (10) got asked to fill in for a second team, so he played two whole games. He did have an hour rest in between. Mary looked so hot out there. Her game started at 11:30. We rested a bit after we got home. Hubby's still resting.

I went downstairs to avoid the heat and I did 20 min of Zumba on the Xbox. Now, for some family time. I don't know what we are going to do, but I look forward to some fun together.

Day 158 (10 min/day of exercise)

It got hot and humid quickly outside, so I looked at my inside exercise options. I haven't done weights in a while, so I decided on one of those routines:

10 min elliptical, one round of weight set one (chest press, delt press, bicep curls, quads), one round crunches (30 regular, 10 bicycle, 10 reverse).

All of the above times 3

It was hard to complete today. I did not feel like exercising, although I'm glad I didn't cut it short. I feel proud of myself for sticking with it.

    Sometimes just going through the motions and giving it our all in the moment even when we don't feel like it is what we have to do. It is better than skipping it altogether. I have found that exercise is better than coffee at giving me sustained energy for the day. :-) Hope your exercise over the weekend is more fun!

The temps and humidity are rising, so I stayed inside and swam today. I did 30 minutes including 600 backstrokes, freestyle kicks, back kicks, reverse crunches, and ab/adductor kicks. I also stretched afterward, especially to loosen up my neck. My arms and shoulders are not used to swimming and got a little tight.

I have to say I really appreciate the 10 min/day challenge. I have been insanely busy April and May with work, soccer, piano/guitar, choir and band concerts, middle school track, high school track, a field trip, buying a new car, and all my other mom stuff. I think last year I pretty much stopped exercising, or only did it once or twice a week. If I couldn't get a full cardio, weights, and stretching done, I didn't bother. Now I get something done every day. Many days last week were only 10 minutes of light cardio due to schedule and illness, but that's still better than nothing. This challenge also forces me to do something for myself for at least ten minutes a day. I hope I have a chance tomorrow to look at the April numbers. It will be interesting to see how much exercise I got in even though I really didn't have time.

    Great job with the swimming! That is excellent exercise. And I agree that it is worth it to exercise every day even if it is just 10 minutes. It helps us to be thinking about exercise no matter how busy we are and it helps us to feel better about ourselves when we take the time to take care of our health through fitness. I think it is absolutely amazing all the stuff you get done and the fact that you still find time to exercise every day is INSPIRING!
