Day 149-Hot, Hot, Hot!

I guess I really don't know how hot it is outside. I'm in the air conditioned house and planned to workout here to be safe. I went down into my nice, cold basement and did three, 20 minutes Zumba routines. I absolutely love the intermediate routines, and hate the expert ones. I'm still occasionally doing an expert one to "earn" everything you can on the Zumba game. I would love to hear any input on the new "Zumba Rush" game. Is it better than the original? I have the Xbox Kinect. I may ask for it as a birthday or Mother's Day gift.

Last night we had another event, Iowa History Night for the Sixth graders. This is my third Iowa History night in four years. I guess since I have twins, I only have two more IHNs left. Mary was disappointed. They had her set up way on the end, and her laptop never got connected right to bring up her power point presentation. I'm sure she did just fine, but he teacher didn't have the grades finished yet. I had fun. Mary has a lot of very nice friends, and I'm friends with all their parents. I got to visit with some people I haven't seen since volleyball season. I also quizzed her friends on their projects. They always say, "Hi Mary's mom." They never call me by my name. I think that's funny.

Poor Mary now has two more projects to work on: balloon car and science fair. They make the sixth graders do more projects than any other grade. I'll have a year off from sixth grade again next year. I look forward to that, although I move up to having two high schoolers.

    I always loved Iowa History class - I'm sure it's interesting to see all the various projects the kids can do. Great job on all the Zumba workouts - keep STREAKING! See you this weekend at work.

    It is hot out! Jacob had a walking field trip today and it was quite warm walking with 20 Kindergarteners! Good idea to stay inside! Have a great evening!

    I have always thought that Zumba workouts sound fun and I saw them doing a Zumba workout on Biggest Loser, but I have never tried it. Sounds like you got in an excellent workout today! Way To Go!

Day 148-frozen computer

I really don't like sparking on the iPad, but I'm glad I have the option. Today for my workout I did the elliptical, weights, and stretching. I broke it down into three intervals:

Elliptical 10 min, one set of weights (tricep pulldown, front laterals, tricep curls, and glutes), one set of non-crunch abs (dumb-bell side bends, dumb-bell cross body punches, lying leg lifts)

After three sets of the above, I stretched for ten minutes. I really need to stretch more often, especially my calves. Maybe I'll add that to my bedtime routine.

Last night was the Middle school concert. Mary is in sixth grade band and choir. Patrick is in the 7-8th grade band and choir. Mary plays flute and Pat is a percussionist. Mary had her first piano solo, "Inspector Cool," and she nailed it! Patrick accompanied Mrs. H on piano for the choir song, "Rythm of Life". This isn't the Disney song. It's a really fast paced musical piece with lots of interesting vocals. I've never seen Pat play so fast. He was fantastic! Neither of them looked too nervous. I swear I felt all their nervousness for them. Afterward we went out to a local restaurant for ice cream. The featured flavor was chocolate fudge brownie and it was fabulous. When I go off my eating plan, I want it to be for really tasty food. I succeeded last night.

This blog is long enough. I'd better get back to my busy mom schedule.

The concert sounds delightful. And I am SOOO in agreement with you - if I'm going to eat over my calories, the food had darned well be worth remembering!

    Glad you enjoyed the ice cream. That was something that we always did after my programs when I was in school, Mom would take us out for ice cream. Hope you get your computer issues fixed!

    Your workout sounds great! Stretching really does help alot to avoid muscle soreness. I enjoy seeing myself get more and more flexible as time passes.

Bethany, my 9-year-old violinist, has an orchestra performance this Saturday. Then on Mother's Day weekend both Bethany and Kathryn, my 12-year-old pianist, have recitals. They have both been practicing their pieces a lot. I hope they do as well as your kids. :-)

I'm glad you enjoyed the ice cream. That kind of thing is usually WELL WORTH the indiscretion! Have a wonderful evening.

Days 146 & 147

We had a somewhat busy day for a Sunday yesterday. First church, then home to get the twins ready for their soccer pictures. They both looked so cute. Sean has such a hard time having a natural smile. It's so funny. Mary and Stevie had pictures too. Many moms had to make several trips, me included. It took up my whole day. I got my workout done in the evening again, 20 minutes in the pool, including 500 backstrokes.

I didn't sleep too well again, so I was slow getting going today. It is such a nice day out, that once I started, I didn't want to stop jogging. My total today was 4.5 miles straight jogging in 62 minutes. That's 14 minutes per mile. I know I've gone that far before, just not all jogging or all in a row. I'm really proud of that!

    4.5 miles in 60 minutes! Wow! And swimming is excellent too. My older girls both LOVE to swim. I love to swim laps, but I'm too embarrassed to be seen in a swimsuit right now. I like the way you mix up your workouts. Great job!

Day 145-Soccer games

I went to three soccer games today. Stevie's was first, bright an early at 9am. I worked until 12:30am last night, 10.5 hours straight with no break. One of our pharmacists just got back from wintering in Florida, and he's still catching on again. He retrains each spring. I love him to death, but I hate cleaning up after him.

Anyway, back to soccer. Stevie (10) scored twice today! He looked really good out there and his team won. The twins, Sean and Bridget (6), played at 1pm. Bridget scored twice and Sean six times to help their team win. The little kids are so cute, not too many rules, no goalies, just a lot of kids running around having fun. Mary (12) played at 2 and her team won. She's a defender so she doesn't get a chance to score. I took the kids to Subway for Goodrich ice cream afterward. I was good, and had nothing there.

For my workout today I managed one mile jogging (13:16) and my weight set one (chest press, delt press, bicep curls, quads). I'm kind of tired since I didn't get to bed until almost 2am, but my workout counts and my streak continues.

    Hey soccer mom! Sounds like the whole family got in a workout today. Great job! It is definitely much harder to exercise when you are exhausted. I hope you are able to get some much needed rest soon.

Day 144

Friday, April 20, 2012

I kept Bridget home from school today, and she seems to be improving. We are watching all the Barbie movies. So far we've watched: Mariposa and Thumblina. She's keeping down crackers and Poweraid, so I think she's getting better. She'll hopefully be able to do her soccer game tomorrow.

I got on the elliptical again for 30 minutes. I was hoping for a more complete workout, but I have to head off to work soon. I shouldn't overdo it before a ten hour shift.

Lots of construction equipment outside today. They are getting ready to do some sewer work, and it looks major. Huge cement "pipes" arrived today, and there's lots of really big equipment. They've also dumped four huge piles of rock/gravel on the street in front of our house. This should be interesting when they start to tear everything up.

    I HATE construction. Yuck! Hopefully they are making huge improvements to make it well worth it. I do the same crackers and Gatorade when my kids are sick. Hope Bridget feels better soon and that no one gets sick. Have a great weekend.
