Well, it's been a busy week. Patrick is finally back in school after missing 10 days. He's a little freaked out about all the work he has to make up. I suggested to the school they let him work on it during PE since he can't participate for a while any way. He's still coughing and on his second course of antibiotics. He's also on a lot of other meds. Good thing I'm a pharmacist. I'll have to call from work to be sure Brian remembers all his meds.

It's been great getting outside the last couple of days. I got two good outside walks in this week, plus walking down to the school in the afternoon. I let the kids play at the play ground after school yesterday. I actually got a little sun burn on my chest and cheeks. I hope the weather improves next week. It can be yucky today and all weekend. I'll be at work staring at computer screens, no windows. Hopefully, I can keep working out a little before work.

Have a good weekend and drive carefully with our new snow.

I'm glad your son is getting better. Hopefully the teacher works with him to help get the work made up. Have a great weekend. Next week is supposed to be nice.

Glad to hear that Patrick is doing better! As for the snow, nothing like Mother Nature saying "It may be the first day of Spring, but you need some snow!". Have a great weekend!

You have a great weekend too. The weather looks good for next week. A couple days in the mid to high 50's. Yeah! Terry

Sunny Thursday

Thursday, March 18, 2010

Wow! What a difference in my mood with the sun shining! Of course the migraine earlier this week, and Patrick's cough (10 days now) brought my mood down some anyway. I went for a walk yesterday for 35 minutes and did well. The hills in my area get tough sometimes pushing the stroller. Thankfully, I only had one of the twins with me, that lightened the load. I've been doing really well with my eating. Lent helps that a lot. I'm not allowed to snack unnecessarily. I even avoided the potatoes and Irish soda bread I made yesterday, limiting myself to the corned beef, cabbage, and a few carrots. This is the first year I've had everything turn out really well. I'm so happy the kids love my cooking and baking. We even have leftovers for tonight, so I don't have to cook again. That will give me more time to get a good walk in today with this beautiful day.

Have a good weekend everyone! I'll be working, but will hopefully be able to fit in some working out too.

My Blessings

Tuesday, March 16, 2010

Today I have four of my blessings home with me. The usual two, the four year old twins, Sean and Bridget. I still have Patrick home with his cough. Mary joined us today with a sore throat and headache. To top it all off, I have a migraine and didn't sleep last night.

With all of this, I can't help but see the blessings surrounding me. Mary is ten and is very creative. She voluntarily copied off Easter coloring pictures for the twins and then compiled them into books with a story she wrote. When I went to lay down, Patrick came in to see if I needed a heating pad warmed up. Pat's almost twelve. They both helped with making lunch. The twins spontaneously come over and hug and kiss me throughout the day.

None of us feels good, yet we are all pulling together to get through the day. I know Mikey (13), and Stevie (8) will be awesome helpers when they get home. Brian has already told me that I don't have to make dinner. He also let me vent this morning in my sleep deprived migraine state.

Yep, I'm surrounded with blessings.

Isn't it amazing how even when you are feeling your worst, you can realize how good things are. Migraines are killers, so I know what you are going through. Hope everyone gets to feeling better.

Monday

I'm worn out. This weekend wasn't very relaxing at all, and I just feel exhausted. Poor Patrick is still sick. We go back to the Family doc again, or the pulmonigist if he ever gets back to us. I don't see how the poor guy is going to catch up on his school work. My husband was sick all weekend and studying. He takes a test at the end of the month for CISSP certification (computer stuff). He also had to deal with the plumber and a bunch of leaks we didn't realize we had. Our old house just seems to be falling apart. I took five of the kids to church and then shopping for things we need from the city. I just can't take them during the school week. I did manage to find everything we were looking for: white suit (First Communion), new dress (Confirmation), shin guards (soccer), piano books, and finally faucet for the kitchen sink (my husband added that one at the end of my trip). Both Brian and I had an exhausting Sunday, and I still have to set up doctor's appointments and get the plumber here to fix the last leak.

I sure hope the sun comes out today. I am so tired of this foggy, cloudy weather. That's probably part of my problem. PMS is probably to blame for the rest. I'll have to exercise and see if that helps me perk up a bit. At least I found out that I can use my dishwasher today. I read on some Spark Blog suggestions for being more active that washing dishes by hand is one way to be more active. I think whoever wrote that doesn't have six kids. emoticon

I know what you mean about the clouds. I cannot wait for Thursday. It is suppose to be 62 and sunny. I can't decide if I want to try a hike at Hitchcock Nature Center or take my bike on the Wabash. No matter what, I am NOT spending the day inside. Hope your week gets better. Take care. Terry

The sun is trying to peek out here in Fontanelle. It's still cloudy, but I keep getting glimpses of the sun! Sounds like you had a busy, crazy weekend! Hang in there!

Long Asthma Week

Thursday, March 11, 2010

Well, I over estimated how well Patrick was doing yesterday. He woke up wheezing and coughing today. This freaked us out because he NEVER wheezes, only coughs with his asthma. He didn't improve much after his nebulizer treatment (pulmicort & albuterol) so we tried a second dose of albuterol. The nebulizer burned out! In hind site, we've had it since he was diagnosed back when he was 18 months old (he is now almost 12). He's done so well over the last few years, we've only been refilling his meds with our family doctor. There didn't seem to be a need to go to the city for a pulmonologist. By the time the pulmonologist's office finally called back, we had already gone to our family doc and Patrick got a steroid shot. Brian had to drive to Red Oak to get a new nebulizer. It wouldn't be delivered in time for a noon treatment.

Overall, a lot of good came out of this. Patrick's meds are all updated. He's on a stronger dose of inhaled steroid which is good because he's not a little boy any more. We have a brand new nebulizer and I have enough oral steroids to get him through the weekend. I hope the weather dries up soon. I don't think he can handle all this cold damp weather.

Have a good weekend everyone.

Hope that all is going better now. Sorry to hear about all the trouble. I know exactly how you feel. At least it happened before the weekend, when you could take care of everything.
