Day 119-Total workout!

Monday, March 26, 2012

Last week was kind of a slower week for me with exercising. I still got my time in every day. Some days were more casual than others: disc golf on Saturday, walk with Hubby Sunday. I looked at my chart today to log my weights and I noticed that I haven't done weights in two weeks. Yikes! I planned to cut back to twice a week, not stop all together.

Today I did my intervals, at least that's what I call it: 3 min elliptical (warm-up), 1 mile jog, one round of weights (chest press, delt press, bicep curls, quad press), and one round of crunches (30 regular, 10 bicycle, 10 reverse). I did this three times then finished with ten minutes of stretching.

Total cardio: 51 minutes (9 min elliptical and each mile was about 14 minutes)

I feel really good right now. I've started sleeping better thanks to another breakthrough in my thyroid dosing. I've started taking 5 mcg Cytomel before bed and that has really helped. I even had a glass of wine last night, and it didn't affect my sleep. Alcohol has had a tendency to keep me awake lately. So I think I'm well on my way to figuring out my long term thyroid dose. I still have a few weeks until the dessicated thyroid and reverse T3 work their way out of my system completely, so I am expecting some more dose adjustments. I'm just taking it really slowly.

A good thing you looked so you can get the strength training back in place. And even better than the thyroid dosing seems to be getting close to what is livable and workable for you.

Day 118-Walk with Hubby

Sunday, March 25, 2012

It was such a beautiful evening that I talked Hubby into going for a walk with me. We went one mile in 20 minutes. That's a great pace for hubby, and my left knee is sore so I didn't mind going a bit slower than usual.

We have friends that need prayers for their son, Bernard. He burned himself a week ago on 20% of his body. He's still in the burn unit, and his family needs prayers too. They don't live close to the hospital, so it's been a difficult week for them. Grandpa and the teenage kids have been left in charge of the younger kids. Mom and Dad stay in the city with Bernard and their small baby. It's been hard on all of them.

Prayers are being sent that everything will work out and he heals completely.

Your friend's son is in my thoughts. I dread burns more than most injuries ... I hope he comes through okay.

Day 117-Disc golf with the family, no fall this time

Saturday, March 24, 2012

We finally were able to go disc golfing as a family. We went to the course over in Blair. It's a little hilly, but that made for some good hikes. I had better shoes on than the last time we tried. Last year I had a bad fall wearing generic shape-ups. We went on a whim and I wasn't well prepared. I've since stopped wearing those shoes. Today I had good walking shoes on and we had fun. It's nice in Blair, not as crowded as the Ralston course. Our loud kids didn't bother anyone. Now we just need to get our bikes ready so we can get some family rides done this year.

Day 116- Four miles straight jogging!

Friday, March 23, 2012

I'm not sure if I've ever jogged four miles straight before. I know I've done it in intervals, walking and jogging. My jogging time was 56 minutes, that a 14 minute mile. I also walked 1/4 mile before and after. Two interesting things happened on my walk/jog today:

1. The owner of a pesky, mean little dog apologized for him almost biting me. She said they're working on his aggression and he's getting fixed next month. His name is Kujo (fittingly). I've had to back away from that dog a couple of times and I've almost sprayed him with pepper spray. He's small enough I should be able to take him out if need be. His owner even said I should kick him if I need to. Why don't we try obedience school or something! Maybe when he loses his manhood he'll mellow out a bit.

2. This next thing happened after I had completed my turn at 3.5 miles jogging. A bicyclist pulled up beside me and asked how much weight I've lost. I said 25 lbs and she commended me on my jogging and said that I looked great. I was impressed with myself here. I was able to carry on a conversation while jogging, and after having jogged 3.5 miles already. It's always helpful to get compliments too.

Very exciting.

... and seriously? Suggesting that a dog be kicked?! I really have to wonder at some people's idea of how to train a dog.

Day 115-Finally, another jog

Thursday, March 22, 2012

It has been a wet, dreary week here in Western Iowa. I finally saw the sun today, and it called me outside for a jog. I only had a short time to work out, so I did 2.5 miles. I walked a total of 0.5 miles and jogged two miles straight (27:20-jogging time). It felt really good and I think I could have done more if there were more time.

I'm feeling pretty good today. I've made the switch back to Cytomel (T3 only medication for thyroid) and it seems to be agreeing with me much better than the dessicated thyroid. I'm on half the dose I used to be on. As the T4 and reverse T3 build up goes down, I will probably have to increase my dose. I'm taking it slowly, one day at a time and really charting my sleep and moods carefully. I've slept well the last two nights, only waking up 1-2 times per night.

My weight is about the same as it's been, around 178 (that's with shoes and clothes). My clothes are fitting the same so I know I haven't changed much. Good news though, I haven't gained despite my thyroid issues. I'm trying to keep positive. It's easier to stay positive now that I feel more like myself again.

Plus, Chris, it's good that your exercise streak continues as I'm sure that's probably helping with your maintaining the weight. It's great to lose but it's also great to not gain. Anytime that you're able to have more energy and feel better it is a positive. You've doing fantastic.
