Days 71 & 72

Wednesday, February 08, 2012

Yesterday was a great day! I did 60 total minutes on the elliptical ( 16x3, then 12), weights, non-crunch abs, and stretching for a fantastic full workout. I also ate great all day. I'm still pushing the veggies. Most days I'll have my veggie drink (green sludge) and dipping veggies and probably a side veggie for dinner. The kids had fun after school. I had Patrick (13) help Sean (6), and Mary (12) help Bridget (6) make their boxes to hold Valentines. They also helped the twins fill out their Valentines. Bridget's box is covered with pictures of butterflies, with a giant picture on the inside. Sean's box has teeth to "eat" the Valentines. I was making dinner and observing them all at the same time.

Today I woke up with a very stiff neck and annoying headache. I really couldn't see straight this morning, but the pain wasn't as bad as a migraine. So I took it easy the first half of the day, drank coffee and watched TV with a heating pad on my neck. I decided to swim for my exercise today. The warm water of the pool felt really good on my muscles. I split my pool time equally between backstrokes and kicks (holding onto the kickbar). Total I did 45 minutes, 1200 backstrokes, 600 freestyle kicks, 400 backstroke kicks, 200 reverse crunches (holding onto kickbar too), 200 ab/adductor kicks. I also stretched afterward. I like stretching in the pool. The water is warm, and the boyancy helps me do some stretches I can't do otherwise.

Awesome, Chris. I woke up today with a backache which ended with a trip to the Chiro (couldn't hardly move) but am feeling better now. I always loved doing the Valentine stuff with the kids. I'm a little bit jealous.
Sleep tight.

Day 70

Monday, February 06, 2012

I sure was glad the kids had a two hour delay for the start of school this morning. I "worked" last night, so I didn't get to bed till midnight. It was pretty slow. I think it's kind of funny how a hospital slows down during major sporting events, the SuperBowl and here in Nebraska any Husker football game.

I got off to a slow start today. I relaxed for a long time finding things to record on Tivo. Hubby and I relax after the kids go to bed and watch a show. We've lost a few shows, they always seem to get cancelled. "Chuck" is the latest victim, and I have to say I was not happy with the last episode. I want a completely happy ending, not a questionable happy ending. Anyway, I did get a great workout in after I got moving. I did 60 minutes in our Endless pool including:

300 + freestyle kicks (holding onto kickbar)
300 backstyle kicks (holding onto kickbar)
100 reverse crunches (holding onto kickbar)
2500 total backstrokes (1600+500+400)

I really felt it when I was done!

Day 69

Sunday, February 05, 2012

Today I did 40 minutes on the elliptical before getting ready for work. It was hard to get going. My body sure felt the effects of shoveling and sledding yesterday. Climbing repeatedly up a snow covered hill really was a great lower body workout, and the shoveling a great upper body workout. OUCH!!

You sure got a workout during the past couple days but then you are always dedicated and "full steam ahead" which I really admire. It's a lot of hard work but it's so worth it in the end. (Easy for me to say when I really need to step up my program A LOT!) Glad the snow has moved on. Quite a storm over there but at least you had fun with the kids and got some good exercise in.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Day 68- Shoveling snow and sledding

Saturday, February 04, 2012

What does a crazy, 43 year-old, mother of six do for cardio when a major snow storm hits? She helps the family shovel the double wide, quadruple long driveway... and then is crazy enough to go sledding too. Today I shoveled for 45 minutes and went sledding for 35 minutes. I was a sweaty mess under all my snow gear when we got home. I'll probably have to go to the chiro again to straighten my hips and bum out from the sledding. My crazy kids built a ramp to get airborn while sledding. No one got hurt, thankfully.

Does anyone know a good place for a woman to get snow pants? This winter I invested in good snow boots for all the adult sized members of our family, five pair from Lands End. We are all happy with those. I am the only person in the family without snow pants, and I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on them. What I do now is use a pair of my fat jeans and wear a pair of thick leggings and a pair of sweat pants under them. The good thing is that I still have room in the fat pants after adding two layers under them!

I almost forgot to mention that hubby helped shovel and went sledding too! He's starting to be able to do more things, and he's noticing that! I'm so happy he was there with us today!

LOL yup, that was my cardio today, too! Well, the shoveling, not the sledding. I did make half a snowman, though. LOL! How much did you get up north? I'd wager we got almost 8 inches in Bellevue. The nice thing is that once it was shoveled/plowed it melted off to water because the concrete was residually warm. SWEET!

And good for you!

I think of shoveling snow as being my equivalent of playing in the snow. I also like that I get to enter in my shoveling minutes in the fitness tracker. I wasn't able to find an affordable pair of snow pants for myself, but what I use is a big pair of wind pants OVER my sweatpants or jeans. They work perfect, as far as I'm concerned. They keep the wind off my legs, which keeps me warm enough for when I'm out in the cold. I found my wind pants from the mens section of the store. Adult snow pants CAN be found from catalogs like LLBean and/or Land's End. (Think ski pants). But, for my purposes, the wind pants have lasted me a LONG time & didn't cost me much at all. A perfect combo in my mind! It's good to have them a size bigger than you normally wear, so they'll comfortably fit over another pair of pants.

Day 67

Friday, February 03, 2012

Today I was able to fit in 35 minutes in our Endless pool, 31 of those minutes were backstrokes (1800). I only stopped twice during the swim (goggle adjustment, and re-turn the motor on).

Right now I'm at work, taking my break. The computer system we use for working is getting and "upgrade." Everything just went down, so there's not much work for me to do right now. I'm hoping the snow storm holds off until I make it home. I've got someone to cover my shift tomorrow, so I won't have to commute through all this bad stuff.

I have to say that I'm feeling a little thinner. Hubby has even commented on that. I can't step on a scale. It doesn't show a difference frequently, so I avoid it until I can fit into smaller clothes. I'm glad that I feel good, though.

    emoticon for feeling thinner.

I find it amusing to have those moments where some little thing just makes me feel different somehow. Maybe the way I stand or how my arms relax at my sides, how tight or loose certain items feel, even a sudden closer look in the mirror while washing my hands.

Congrats on day 67!
