Day 63-What a Beautiful Day!!

Monday, January 30, 2012

High in the 60's today here in western Iowa. I can't believe it's still January. I'm glad to get to fantastic weather because I am really getting bored of the elliptical. So you know where I went today... outside!

I went a total of 4.5 miles: 1/4 mile walk, 1 mile jog, 1/2 mile walk, 1 mile jog, 1/2 mile walk, 1 mile jog, 1/4 mile walk.

My three individual mile times were: 13:17, 12:50, 13:16.

I also did weights, crunches and stretching. I'll walk another slow 1/3 mile to go get the kids after school, slow because of the kids. I think the house cleaning will have to wait for bad weather. I'm sending the kids outside to play today.

It beautiful here in Western North Carolina today too. I also got outside and did some walking. It's been a mild winter here. But I still can't wait for Spring. Have a good day.

Day 62

Sunday, January 29, 2012

Today I did 35 minutes swimming in my Endless pool. I did some kicks holding on to the kick bar for warm up and cool down, and did 1500 straight backstrokes. Keep in mind, that is continuous swimming, no turns. I'm swimming against a current (like jogging on a treadmill). That was 26 minutes of straight swimming!!! The most I've ever done!!!

Awesome! Those endless pool things look so cool. I swim in a regular pool, so I know just how much work 26 minutes of straight swimming can be. Keep it up! :D

Day 61

Saturday, January 28, 2012

Today I was able to fill the pool up (it was getting a little low) and swim for 30 minutes. That included 1200 straight backstrokes and various kicks on the kick bar.

We had fun watching Stevie's first basketball game. The boys really hustled out there. They lost, but they seemed to have a lot of fun. Afterward we went driving around Blair and discovered a park and a bike trail we knew nothing about. I'm looking forward to warmer weather to be able to explore more over there.

Day 60 WooHoo!!

Friday, January 27, 2012

Today I did 30 minutes on the elliptical (at a pretty fast pace, 3x10 min), weights (delts and glutes), and my non-crunch ab routine. I also finally got a good stretching session in. I've been neglecting the stretching, and I feel it in my calves and feet overnight.

Hubby has done really well this week, not perfect, but really well. He's taken his salads to work, and eaten veggies a lot, or drank them in our lovely concoction we call "green sludge." It just tastes like veggies, but looks bright green since the main ingredient is spinach. He's also walked every day at work. Last evening after work, he did not take a nap. He kept busy until bed time. I reminded him how happy this is making me. He says that he is feeling better.

Time to go make more "green sludge." It's a great way to get in a lot of veggies. We use our vitamix (not a juicer) so we still have all the fiber in the drink. Here's the recipe if anyone is interested:

2- 10 ounce boxes frozen spinach
celery (several stalks, I never measure)
2-3 11 oz cans of V8 (can use low salt)
1/2 cucumber peeled
1 avocado (it tastes so much better with the avocado)
several squirts lemon juice (again I'm a terrible measurer)
enough water to make a gallon (or more if you need to thin it out)

It ends up being a shake-like consistency. Store it in the refrigerator, and it needs stirring before serving. It tends to separate a little. I try to Vitamix the @#$@% out of it, so there are no chunks-spinach and V8 first, then celery, etc... one solid ingredient added at a time to pulverize them.

Way to go on your streak! And it is so awesome that your hubby is getting in on the healthy train. It makes it so much easier on us when our husbands are supportive (whether or not they need to lose the weight - mine is a beanpole!). Have a great weekend!

I add two cups of fresh spinach to my smoothies... so 1.5 cups frozen berries, 2 cups spinach, 4 oz plain green yogurt, and a packet or two of truvia with fiber... oh and water as needed to thin it out. That's about as close as I get to sludge... LOL. Now I feel like an underachiever!

Great job on the 60 days!! Are you going to keep going?

I'm not sure I could drink your "green sludge" but it sounds really healthy. Congrats for Brian to get going on improving his exercise and diet. Ed's to the point where he's thinking about improving his eating - he's increasing his vegetable and fruit intake and decreasing the amount of the less-healthy food that he normally gravitates to. It's a big change for someone who loves to eat.

Day 59

Thursday, January 26, 2012

Today I did 30 minutes on the elliptical, weights (biceps, delts, chest press, quads), crunches (regular, bicycle, reverse), and then I got outside and jogged for 2.25 miles (31.5 min). I will stretch after I eat a little.

The problem between Patrick and his friend got resolved. I finally got a hold of his mom (my best friend). His friend thought it was mutual horsing around and didn't mean to humiliate Patrick. Patrick accepted his apology. I still think it was poor judgement on his friend's part, but he's a teenager. They do lots of stupid things.

Hubby is still trying to eat better. I made him salads to take to work this week. He says he's walking for 10 minutes each day at work. He also says this IS the year he gets healthy.

I took a look at my weight tracker. I realized that my goals were set for June 8th, 2011. Hmmm. That deadline passed, so I adjusted things. My goal weight is still 150 lbs, but I'll aim to get there by October 8th, 2012 now. That's our 18th wedding anniversary, and about 3-4 lbs a month. If I keep up the 10 minute/day challenge, I should at least come close to that goal. I usually handle the weight in about 5 lb increments. First step right now, get to the low 170's. I've been eating tons of veggies, and doing well with low carb. I feel good, and I'm exercising a ton. I've logged over 1500 fitness minutes this month, and I've done weights three times a week every week (assuming I get my third time this week done tomorrow). I'm doing the elliptical, swimming and jogging. My upper body feels so much stronger. I just have to keep at it!

I think it's great how early on there were times it seemed like just getting 10 minutes was tough, but you did it ... and now you've got days you're breezing past 10 minutes for a much fuller workout.

I'm glad it got reasonably worked out with your son's friend - hopefully he takes that to heart and thinks more in the future about the impact on others. Tough for a teen to do sometimes.
