Day 15 of 10 min/day of exercise

WooHoo! I just got out of the pool. I did 40 minutes of various kicks and backstrokes. I managed to up the number of backstrokes to 1300, incuding one set of 640. I really feel my arms getting stronger having more endurance. Backstrokes are fantastic for the triceps. Mine aren't sagging as much.

I think today I'm going to try to get some Christmas cards out. Hubby got the pictures downloaded from Thanksgiving and made some cards up. I'll type up a quick letter, print some address labels, and get assembling. I haven't done this in a few years. People will be surprised to hear from us.

    I got my cards mailed out yesterday, but skipped the annual letter. Just wasn't in the mood! Way to go on using your pool. I wish I had something like that to use. I love the treadmill, but sometimes I feel like I get stuck in a rut. Hope the rest of your day goes super!

Day 14

Today I did the elliptical for 30 minutes. It feels good to have enough time to do a longer workout. I'm glad I was able to keep my streak going over my long work weekend, even on Sunday.

This morning I took it easy after everyone got off to school and work. The only think I don't like about napping in the morning is that I seem to have really psychotic dreams. It would be a lot more restful if I had sweet dreams. It must be all the stress from work coming out in nightmares.

    Good job Chris. I'm glad to see you were able to get a good workout in. I'm taking some down time - we've been hopping pretty good tonight (I'm definitely getting in some walking tonight). Keep up the good work.

    Keep up the great job! I know what you mean about having weird dreams when you sleep at not normal times. That's what usually happens to me when I wake up early and try to get some more sleep. Have a great week!

Day 13

Today I managed 10 minutes on the elliptical to complete my 10 min of exercise. I have to hurry to get ready for church (and help the family get ready too). Then I'm off to work a 10.5 hour shift. Day 13 complete!!

Day 12

Today I did a swimming routine in our Endless pool. I did 35 minutes total, 1000 backstrokes total, and various other kicks holding onto the kick bar. Day 12 and still going strong. The real test will be tomorrow. I'll have to get 10 minutes in before getting ready for church, then after that I have a ten hour shift at work. I'll have to manage my mornig well.

Day 11-shoveling

Today I don't have much time before work, so I'm counting the shoveling as my exercise. I feel tired, and SparkPeople lists it as a cardio workout, so I feel that's legit.

Hubby let me sleep in a little this morning, which is nice since I work the evening shift. The house, however, is a war-zone. I can't believe they all made such a mess before deserting the place. Hubby also didn't think to have the kids shovel this morning. We drove home from mass in Omaha last night in the snow, and he didn't remember that the driveway needed shoveling?

Oh well, they will all return to some of this mess. I did most of the driveway, but only to change up my workout a bit. I'll probably get to the dishes, but not much else.

Sorry to sound so negative. It just dawned on me that I haven't had my coffee yet. Guess I'd better have breakfast and get back to work.

    Shovelling snow definitely qualifies! It's both cardio AND upper body strength exercise!

Dad's just don't seem to see the mess, or think about having everyone take 5 minutes to put things away before leaving the house...what? Do they think the fairies will do it?

    Hehe, until you apologized for sounding so negative, it didn't even come across that way. It ~IS~ incredible what a family can leave behind if they're not thinking / trying to clean up after themselves.

And my usual rule of thumb deciding whether to count something as a "workout" (or more precisely cardio) is whether or not my heart rate got up into the right range and stayed there through most of the activity. That's why I can walk 6-10 miles in a day overall, but only count 2-4 of them in the tracker. Only the 2-4 were done at a brisk, heart-working pace. I definitely think shoveling snow qualifies.
