Well, I finally got my first workout done in over a week. I could only manage 2/3 of it. I was hoping to complete 3 sets of my weights and crunches, but I was just too choked up. My sinuses are better, my chest is still a little congested. This cloudy, drizzly weather isn't helping my mood either. I'm trying to get going and stay positive, but I just can't manage as much physical activity since the illness.
This week doesn't seem so busy. Next week we have Honors Band for Patrick, Honors Choir for Mikey, Parent/teacher conferences, and St. Patrick's Day. I see the kids don't have school the day after, so maybe we'll be able to go out for our corned beef and cabbage. Otherwise, I have to cook at least four. They shrink up so much, and the kids love the meat.
I worked this last weekend. It went much better than my previous work weekend. The previous one, I was wondering why I still worked there. It would be great if I could get a job out here in my small town. Less pay, I sure, but also less stress, no commute, and I save a ton on gas. Still working on my Iowa license. I've got to send off the final form and order study materials for the test. Wish me luck.

Okay, I have to vent. I lost it this morning and snapped at Hubby pretty bad. In my defense, he snapped first.
You moms know how mornings are. I have six kids, seven if you count my husband, to help get out the door on time. This week has been filled with permission slips, scheduling parent/teacher conferences, and now Freshman scheduling for my oldest. My second oldest has missed three days of school due to his asthma acting up and I was trying to remember all his meds and get him to stop coughing so we could get him to school. I was getting breakfast for the twins, cleaning up the kitchen (no one helped clean up after dinner last night and I had to go to a meeting), making lunches for the two kids in elem. school and all before I had even had my coffee, let alone my own breakfast. This is pretty standard for my mornings.
Hubby shouts out from the computer he's been sitting at all morning, "I can't find my Visa card!" I have my own card. I never go in his wallet. He continues questioning me, "Did we get new cards and I haven't activated it?"
I HAVE NO IDEA!!!!! I CAN'T KEEP TRACK OF EVERYTHING!!!!
He snapped back at me and I continued:
I HAVE TO KEEP TRACK OF ALL MY STUFF, ALL THE KIDS' STUFF!!!! I CAN'T KEEP TRACK OF YOUR STUFF TOO!!!!
He snapped again like this was my fault.
We never fight. We've both been sick, so I'm sure that didn't help the situation. We hugged and made up, him apologizing first (I wasn't budging). Before he left, I gently pointed out that after our "snapping" he had called out, "Where are my shoes?"
I hope he got my point.

169.2 lbs!!! I'm in the 160s now!! You would think I'd be jumping around hooting and hollering.
The bad news: the reason I know my accurate weight is because I went to the doctor yesterday. I'm so congested and coughing a lot. Both hubby and I are under the weather. Hubby missed three days from work and I haven't done much since Friday. I also haven't slept much in two nights. I can't sleep when I can't breathe through my nose. It's a strange infection. It hit my chest first, then migrated to my sinuses. No sore throat, only congestion, coughing, and plugged sinuses.
Patrick, my 13 year old asthmatic son, has also been sick. We kept him home for a third day of missed school. He has a horrible cough and has started on Prednisone now. We're even trying to go to the next step in asthma treatment, an Advair diskus.
I look at March on the calendar, and I have no time to be sick, so I'm really taking good care of myself for a speedy recovery. Tonight is Freshman orientation for my oldest. Envision me sobbing as my oldest is growing up too fast. Later this month is the meeting for kindergarten for my twins, the youngest kids in our family. Again, envision me sobbing as my youngest are growing up too fast. We have an Elementary school spring concert for Mary (11) and Stevie(9). Mikey (14) made honor choir for the second year. Patrick (13) made honor band. Both those concerts are out of town. These are Southwest Iowa Middle School events, huge choir and I imagine a huge band. These concerts are also scheduled for the two nights of parent teacher conferences. I guess Hubby and I will have to divide and conquer. This is just a partial list of all our events for the month.
So, I guess if I'm going to be sick, this is the week to do it. I'm resting, drinking lots of fluids, and still eating pretty well. I've got my antibiotics and should be on the mend soon. I'll try not to be so hard on myself about missing workouts. Judging by my latest weight, what I'm doing is working. I just need to take it easy this week, so I can get back to it by next week.
Stay healthy everyone!!

This week is going pretty well. I worked Friday through Sunday, and it was insanely busy. It really wore me out, especially since I did the single mom thing last week. Hubby went to Atlanta for a business conference. Monday was a recovery day. I did nothing. When I say nothing, I mean nothing. I can't tell you all the TV I watched.
Tuesday and Wednesday, I got going again. I got outside for walk/jogs. Wednesday I did a total of 3 miles jogging, one mile walking. That's a little further than my usual and added up to 60 minutes of cardio. My eating has been good and I go to the doctor some time next month to see if I'm making progress.
Now, two kid's stories. Mikey (14), my oldest, participated in a singing competition for Southwest Iowa schools. He sang a solo, "Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho." We really enjoyed hearing him practice with his deep, bellowing voice over the last few weeks. He got a superior ranking! I'm so proud of him.
Cinnamon toast: Stevie (9) was making cinnamon toast for breakfast one morning. The kids do this by making toast, spreading butter on it, then sprinkling with sugar and cinnamon. He sat at the table and made a funny face as he bit into his toast. "Mom," he said, "I think the cinnamon has gone bad." We looked at the spice rack to see which bottle he used. I never realized how similar the words cinnamon and cumin were, until this incident.
I've since moved the cumin to the cupboard, and cloves now sit next to the cinnamon on the spice rack.
