My oldest son, 14 years old, last week said the funniest thing. We were shopping at Costco, in the canned tuna and chicken isle. He said, "Look mom, Albuquerque Tuna." I replied, "Look again, it's albacore tuna."
Maybe we need to get him new glasses.

Last week was pretty frustrating to say the least. I was only able to get one workout in, and that was on Monday. Tuesday I went to the doctor. The scale there was a cheap floor scale, not what I'm used to at the doctor's office. I expected it to be high. I felt extremely bloated from PMS and constipated on top of that. December was hard. I ate way too many Christmas cookies. I didn't expect the scale to read 7 pounds higher than my last measurement. Ouch!!! That's been a blow to my motivation. The next two days I spent recovering from an upset stomach, and then I worked Friday through Sunday. Definitely a downer of a week.
It's a new week now and I have more resolve to stick with it. Frustrated, though I am, I am still plugging through. I got in a full workout yesterday, and will head downstairs after blogging to get today's workout in. I'm also going to be more careful about treats, be it popcorn or the occasional adult beverage to try to relax. I'm also making more of an effort to drink more water and less coffee. I'm hoping that some of that weight was water weight. I can see the expansion in my gut area. I bloated out in a short period of time. The timing of my doctor's appointment was the absolute worst time of the month for me to step on a scale. I realize this and that my actual weight gain is probably half of the seven.
Anyway, because of Spark People, I'm picking myself up and getting back at it. I bet these winter months are hard on a lot of people in the colder climates. I can't wait to get new running shoes and get back outside again. Until then, elliptical, here I come!!!

One of my favorite things to do with the kids is go sledding. Well, with six plus inches of new snow on the ground, and decent temps yesterday, we did it. I usually drive the couple blocks to the school so we don't have to walk back up the hill to our house. The roads were horrible, so all six kids and I walked down, sleds in hand.
We had a blast!!!!!
I only regret that my husband couldn't come. Brian finally got his plantars wart worked on yesterday. It's been keeping him from doing any cardio since walking is painful. He rested his foot while we went out.
Did you know that sledding is a listed exercise on Spark People? I didn't until yesterday. I guess I burned a lot of calories while out there. I figured as much. Climbing back up the hill, through the thick snow, over and over really wore me out. I'm extra proud of myself since I also ate well too. When I needed carbs, I ate peanuts in limited amounts. I also fixed myself a healthy dinner, taco salad-no shell-lots of veggies, when everyone else had french fries and fish sticks. I was too worn out to fix everyone a healthy meal, and most of mine was a left-over, just had to fix the salad part.
Have a great week everyone!

I can't believe how fast time passes. I started on Spark People almost a year ago. Last year had both ups and downs, but through it all, I am down at least 25 lbs from where I started. I don't weight myself often, and only at the doctor's office. My last visit was before all the Christmas cookies. YIKES!!
My next appointment is on the 18th. I've been extremely good this week with both eating and getting back on the exercise track. I'm still doing the elliptical and weight machine. With my bad knees, I can't take a chance falling on the ice outside (or even the sand and gravel left behind on the streets). Monday through Thursday, I've done complete workouts. I hope to squeeze in some elliptical time Friday and Saturday before work. We'll see how it goes. I haven't been sleeping well and I work ten hour shifts.
My plan for 2011:
1. Continue with low-carb eating. It works best for my metabolism. I also feel best that way.
2. Continue with the elliptical, weights, crunches and stretching until the roads improve.
3. Get new running shoes from a running store.
4. Get back to jogging 3 miles when the roads improve and I have better shoes.
5. Enter a 5k race (couldn't do that in October due to fall).
6. Try to be at 150 by my birthday in June. I will be happy with being in the 160s.
7. Keep hubby inspired to join me. He's doing great so far, but we're only in the first week of 2011.
Well, that's my plan in a nutshell. Pretty much the same as last year, but I'm still at it. Thank you Spark Friends for keeping me going!
