Size 16, Without the "W"

Friday, August 27, 2010

I finally went shopping for new work pants. I only have one pair left that don't look like clown pants on me now. All those clown pants used to be tight on me! I went into CJ Banks like I normally do and tried on the 16W and a few 14W. A few almost worked, but were still kind of big in the legs, so I went next door to Christopher & Banks. I was able to get a pair of 16 pants on and they looked good. I tried the 14 also in the same style, and got those on. The 14 being a little too snug and not comfortable to move in, I decided on the 16. I went back to CJ Banks to tell my friend who works there. We both did a happy dance at that point. During the happy dance I noticed some size X shirts on sale. Size X seemed possible now if size 16 pants worked! I bought two size X shirts, not 2X, not 1X, but X!!! (Envision happy dance again.)

I realize I'm still at that awkward size at the big end of regular sizes, small end of plus sizes. I don't plan to replace my entire wardrobe yet, nor do I have the money to do so. I'm just so happy to see progress. I don't weigh myself often because it can really hurt my motivation. Doing Couch to 5K has given me a goal other than weight loss on which to concentrate. I know I'm making progress because of my clothes. I do plan to weigh myself in September, probably after my work weekend. I always eat well at work since I bring all my own food. I can't remember the last time I got into any of the candy at work.

I just wanted to share my good news.

You and me, lady - we're at the awkward size together!! Let me know if you figure out how to best dress us, because I'm not having a lot of luck...either things look baggy and frumpy or tight-ish and roll-y. Oy!

Hey, beats the heck out of just plain big though, right?? Yay for you!!!

AWESOME!! I remember when I couldn't wear Lane Bryant anymore!!! I walk past it now saying I am to little for that!! YEAH ME! Mind you I went from as size 20 being tight to a size 8. (I have tried a 6 on but they are too tight)

You can do it! Enjoy the excitement....doing the happy dance with ya!

I remember that point. I was always shopping at Lane Bryant, even though I was at the low "plus-size" range. Their clothes just fit me better. I still have moments when I think that I still need extra large in tops when I don't. Enjoy the victory!!!!

Rumor has it...

Thursday, August 26, 2010

I live in a small town in Iowa. I love living here. It's interesting to me how word gets around quickly in small towns.

I've been jogging for a few months now and have built up my distance to 2.5 miles of actual jogging with a warm up walk and cool down walk added on. I jog in my neighborhood and repeat the 1.5 mile loop since the hills get pretty bad beyond that point. I've also been getting up earlier since school started and have been jogging while a lot of people are heading to work.

People are noticing. Two days ago, at my daughter's volleyball practice, a mom asked me if I'm jogging. She said that someone saw me and mentioned it to her. She also said, "Good for you!" It's nice to get more encouragement.

Yesterday, at my daughter's volleyball practice, another mom asked me about my jogging. She said she heard I was training for a marathon.
Wow! That rumor got bigger quickly. I'm sure the look on my face was priceless. I'm hoping to do a 5K in October. I can see training beyond that for a 10K. Lots of people who started Couch to 5K end up running longer distances. One thing at a time. I just thought it was funny how my story got more interesting so fast.

isn't it great living in a small town. That is why I get up at the crack of dawn (before actually) and go jogging. I don't want everyone and their brother seeing me running. I caught my neighbor looking out the window one morning and it freaked me out.

Oh..I also get up early cuz I don't know when hubby will be home from work in the evenings and i know I can get my exercise in for sure in the morning! I have done 5 5k's this can do it! (first summer I have ever run)

Cooler weather = faster jogging

Tuesday, August 24, 2010

I was able to get up early again to get my walk/jog in today. I am so glad the weather cooled off some. I didn't know how I'd do since I haven't jogged for several days. It's hard to fit that in on my work weekend. I actually cut off a minute from my time. I'm really happy with that. Today I jogged 2 1/4 miles. Tomorrow I'll try increasing to 2.5 miles for my jogging part. I still warm up and cool down with a walk.

Work was busy and it seemed there were lots of problems all weekend. Luckily, Sunday seemed to go better than Fri and Sat. When I walked in Sunday, Willie, another pharmacist, looked at me, did a double-take, and asked, "Are you on a diet or something?"

emoticon emoticon

He's the second person to ask about my weight loss. Needless-to-say, I was in a good mood the rest of the day. Yesterday, I rested. I get really tired after my work weekend, mostly from the commute, ten hour shifts, and working till 10:30 pm. I know my limits and usually take Monday off from most work and relax with the twins.

My family is still very supportive of me. Hubby and kids are helping more in the mornings before school so I can get out and jog without the stroller. I just hope with our busy schedules that I can sign up for a 5K this fall. There's one in October I have my eyes on. We'll have to see how it all works out. A couple more weeks, and I'll be up to 3 miles jogging in my neighborhood. Feels pretty good.

It is so nice when others finally notice. Keep up the good work. Still waiting for this "cold front" to inch its way to the eastern part of the state. Personally, I think it has been the summer from ####. So tired of the humidity.

C25K @ 6:15am

Thursday, August 19, 2010

I've kind of enjoyed sleeping in this summer. The kids didn't have swim team till 11:30 am. Some days they would let me sleep till 9 or 10. Of course, when I'm not up, I'm not telling them to get off the game systems, computer, or to turn off the TV. School started today for my four oldest. We decided to keep the twins home one more year. They just turned 5, and our little town doesn't allow 5 year-olds in preschool (very stupid). So this morning, I had two options. Get up early and jog at the crack of dawn by myself before the heat, or wait until after the kids go to school and jog with the twins in a stroller with the weather warming up. I chose option A. It was nice being out there as the sun came up. Even though it felt humid (my glasses fogged up repeatedly), it was cool still. The breeze was nice and I was able to jog 2 1/4 miles again. With my warm-up walk and cool-down walk, I was out there for 44 minutes, same as yesterday. Not bad for a very sleepy, achy 42 year-old mom-of-six.

With school in session now, I'm trying not to freak out. Mikey's doing football again (eighth grade) and Mary is doing volleyball again. All four older kids have piano. My work schedule gets fun too. Hubby has to come home to watch the twins when I go in. With everyone out of the house, I see the mess that was created. We definitely have the "lived-in" look going on. I'll tackle it all, one mess at a time, one room at a time. Eight people live here; there will always be some degree of "lived-in" feel to our home.

Right now, I'm enjoying the sound of the twins playing. I don't have to micro-manage the others now. They're in school with their own routines. And I'm here, happy that I followed through with my plan to get up early. I've already caught up the kitchen, started laundry, and logged my fitness & nutrition on Spark People.

Yankton, SD

Tuesday, August 17, 2010

We went on a spontaneous camping trip this weekend up to Yankton, SD. We stayed at the Chief White Crane campsite, so it was our first time camping at a state park. I loved all the space! We've only camped at KOAs and Jellystone which are both pretty squeezed in. We were very close to Yankton Lake, about 150 ft. We hauled the trailer over to the Lewis and Clark Rec. area to ride our bikes over there. I love that trail! The views are spectacular! I hope we can get into one of those campsites next time, so we can just hop on our bikes whenever we want. We did bike around our campsite and Yankton Lake, and up to Gavin's Point Dam. That ride was scenic too and we stopped at the dam observation area. I have to say that the highlight of the trip was renting a pontoon boat for a couple hours on the Lewis and Clark lake. That lake is huge and I love the beaches and cliffs. Brian let all the kids take a turn driving.

I wish we could have spent more time up there. Maybe next trip. We definitely plan on going again!
