This weekend wasn't so bad. I worked Friday through Sunday, but really enjoyed the people I worked with. It got busy at times and slow at times. The usual strange orders that pop up (I'm a hospital pharmacist), but nothing to overwhelm me. I even got a cardio workout in Friday before work, and a full cardio, weights & stretching workout in Saturday before work.
Sunday we got Brian ready for a business trip. He's in Phoenix until late Thursday, so I'm doing the single mom thing. That wouldn't be so bad except I got hit with a stomach bug after I got home from work late last night. YUK!! I'm a low carb eater and all I can tolerate today is oatmeal and toast. I'm finally trying some mild green tea to get me up and about a bit. Fitness will have to wait till tomorrow.
The twins have been great so far, letting me rest. The other kids will have to take care of mommy when they get home from school. They're big helpers and are usually up to the challenge. Soccer, track and all other activities are done for now. That will make it easier.
I hope to be up and active again tomorrow. I hate missing too many days of exercise. I missed a few last week due to TOM. I never get a workout in on Sunday, too busy. Here's to hoping this is a 24 hour bug.

Yesterday, I was reading Spark articles, getting as many points as I could while eating my lunch. I read advice on selecting workout DVDs. One thing suggested was to use Netflix and try out DVDs before putting any real money toward them.
Wait a minute! We use Netflix and we can download some videos to our TV. I checked and Netflix does have some workout videos to download. This is all included in our plan, so I downloaded about ten.
Today was my first attempt at aerobics in a long time. I used to love doing Jazzercise, but there is no instructor in my small town. The only aerobics class here is at 5:15am. I have insomnia, and can't disrupt my sleep to that extreme. I tried the DVD "Dance off the Inches: Fat Burning Jam." I LOVED IT!!! I love to dance and this was a very dancey workout. About half way through, my four year old twins decided to join me. Although this made it a little tricky, avoiding stepping on them during my workout, it was hilarious! Sean and Bridget were shaking it and moving pretty well. They can't wait to try a new video tomorrow and neither can I!

I haven't blogged since last Thursday, so I thought I'd give an update. The kids did great this weekend. Stevie had his First Communion, and Mary and Pat had their Confirmation. We had a fun party afterward to celebrate. Boy! Can Brian smoke meat! We had brisket and pulled pork and both turned out wonderfully! We way over bought, so we have left overs all week. I love not having to plan meals for a while.
Soccer is now over too. Stevie had a lot of fun playing and did really well. There season record was 3-2-1. Track finished up last night and I finally got a chance to see Mikey throw discus. He has really good form and only needs to practice to get good distance. He is fun to watch at track. He cheers on all his teammates.
Monday and Tuesday I spent relaxing. I got back on track with my eating, but I have to say that Costco makes awesome cakes! Yes, I indulged on Sunday and really enjoyed the cake and ice cream. I limited myself to one serving, and Brian gave away all the left-over cake, thankfully. I had the munchies yesterday due to my hard day with TOM. I was good and limited myself to nuts (low-carb diet).
Today I'm hoping to exercise. Still a little worn out and the weather has me down too. Some time on the elliptical will help bounce me back. Patrick's home today. They have the sixth grade stay home so the fifth graders can go to the middle school to get oriented for next year. It's nice to have him here helping with the twins.
I still have some busy days ahead. Work on Fri, Sat, and Sun. I'll try to squeeze in workouts in the mornings. Brian's going on a business trip, so I have to do the single mom thing next week. The only activity left for the kids is their piano recitals on May 24th (all four older kids). I'm glad things are winding down. I'm looking forward to summer with swim team and camping. That's all we have planned.

Thank you everyone who posted comments on my "Bummed" blog. You've inspired me to keep at it. It's been a stressful week too, but I'm making it through. The house is presentable now for our party on Sunday. There's still some work for tomorrow, but I think we can make it.
I've made some adjustment to my food and exercise. I've changed the kind of nuts I eat so I don't over indulge. The mixed nuts are soooooooo yummy, I may be taking in too many carbs that way. Peanuts and pistachios are ok, very nutritious, but there is no way I can eat too many of them. They just aren't addictive for me. As for my workouts, I looked at my charts. When I was losing 5 lbs/month, I was on the elliptical a lot more. This last month, I've been swimming (mostly kicking) and walking a lot. Both are good exercises, but I don't get the workout I get on the elliptical. I could feel it today. On the elliptical, I noticed that I couldn't do the workout I had built myself up to. I lowered the resistance a bit so I could do 40 minutes. I feel great now! I really got my heart rate up and sweated like I burned off some calories. On the elliptical, I can go jogging/running speed without hurting my knees. I just can't do that walking.
I hope everyone has a great weekend. Ours will be busy: tonight Patrick retaking some of his confirmation test, our nephew's eighth grade grad party; tomorrow soccer game and cleaning/getting house ready; Sunday Stevie's First Communion, Mary and Patrick's Confirmation and a party at our house after. We'll celebrate Mother's Day a little too. I know Mary is excited about the presents she made at school for me.

I was anxious for yesterday to arrive. It's May, time to weigh again. I knew I would be right by my doc's office, so I used the same scale as the previous few months. The good news is that it went down. The kind of depressing news is that I'm only down 2 lbs since last month. I feel like I've been killing myself, exercising more and more, and to only go down 2 lbs was kind of depressing.
I'm down a total of 12 now in three months. My hubby told me that maybe I replaced some fat with muscle, which would make sense. I weight lift 4-5 times a week and have increased my strength a lot. This is the exact same comment I know I've posted to others' blogs.
So, I'm trying to stay positive. I'm taking a look at my nutrition tracking, when it's functioning properly again. I've switched from mixed nuts to peanuts. They are way lower carb and it's hard for me to overdo with them. Hubby's joining me on the low carb thing since he had to buy bigger clothes, so he's helping me too. Even when he's weak, he tells me "no, don't eat that" and I listen and thank him later.
The weight is coming off, I'm getting in much better condition, my knees are even stronger. I CAN DO THIS, I WILL DO THIS!!!!
