Week #3 Update

Monday, November 24, 2008

Weight- no change
Food tracking- better with protein
Wine- indulged!
Reading- finished two books. Easy read was "Marley and Me" by John Grogan- my dog Houdini is another Marley. The second book, "A Song for Nettie Johnson" by Gloria Sawai is a collection of short stories from the Canadian prairies- amazing stories, great insight and humour. It was a Governor-General's award winner from 2001, published by Coteau Books.

Today I start my holiday streak- lots of water, cardio and long walks...MJ

Update on week #2

Tuesday, November 18, 2008

Weight loss- down half a pound. Eating small meals every 3-4 hours and pushing the water.
Tracking food- about the same. Good calcium intake but still a bit low on protein.
Wine consumption- progress! Three days without.
Hip pain- trying some new stretches that are loosening butt cheek muscles and giving relief.

Even got really organized this week and planned menus for the entire week- sure made shopping for groceries a whole lot easier.

I am a Ludite

Friday, November 14, 2008

I am Betty- like her I struggle to use the latest in electronic gadgets. I don't have a cell phone so I don't have to worry about text messaging, but I do have a digital camera that I can't fully operate after a year's ownership and for the life of me I can't operate the TV remote to watch a DVD. I can reset my digital clock after a power failure however and I can also program the functions on my electric range.
What else can I do? I can change a flat tire, check the oil level in my car and top up if needed, almost balance my chequebook, operate the snowblower, cook a great meal, maintain an awesome garden, drive a tractor, sew a fine seam, knit, play drums, organize a charity walk, find time to play every day, find time to read...So if I never fully understand how to operate the camera the world will still turn on its axis and all will be good in my life. New and improved gadgets will just have to find another home....MJ emoticon

Cameras, our digital has been here since before I moved out here almost 5 years ago, and neither of us knows how to work all the functions on it. I can't work the remotes right either, to each our own talents. That is what makes us all unique and wonderful, we wouldn't get anywhere as humans if we all did the same thing.

With all the talents you have ... you should just get someone else to take the pictures :):)

Update on November Goals

Sunday, November 09, 2008

Not a bad week in all although there is room for improvement for sure.
Weight loss- down 1.5 pounds. Wednesday morning I will haul 26 bags of leaves to the curb, that's where the weight loss occurred.
Tracking food two times a week- kept within my calorie range but still on the low end of protein.
Wine consumption- managed one drink free day, will try for more this week. I love red wine with dinner.
Read a book- finished "Eva's Three Penny Theatre" by Andrew Steinmetz (Gaspereau Press, 2008)- awesome read from a young Canadian author
I'm fighting a very sore hip again so it will be back to physio - DARN!
