It's Been An Adventure!

Thursday, December 29, 2011

This past year has been a blur: purchase of land, designing and constructing a new home, selling our town property, packing and moving our "stuff" into storage for 4 months, living in a small rental and then ultimately a 30' trailer with an over active 70 pound dog until mid November, then moving into our new home and beginning to unpack as we finished painting and getting ready for Christmas. Over the winter we will install interior trim and then with Spring will tackle landscaping.
Lots of exercise including 3 long walks daily with the dog and certainly stress have burned off 8 pounds. I still have to find my weights and get back to lifting on a regular basis. Eating has been haphazard with more than a few frozen pizzas and cold beers but I am slowly getting back to a primal diet now that we have proper appliances again.
I've missed all my Spark teams and friends, thanks for your messages. WE ALL CAN DO THIS- HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I have thought of you so often and your new home sounds idyllic. I understand all too well the chaos that moving brings, but you sound like you are in such a great place now!! Little by little you are picking away at it and it sounds fabulous!

How do you like those heated floors??

Stay cozy ;) Happy New Year!

Woo hoo! Sounds like it has been steady, tough, but so worth it! I am hoping to visit Mahone Bay this summer with my DH visiting a wonderful friend. I also hope to be under 200 pounds by then! Got to get busy! Hugs, Justyna

So glad to hear from you, I was contemplating a drive to the valley to make sure you were okay, lol then thought I don't remember the spark mail where she told me directions lol
I am glad you are in the house and now have the winter to do what needs to be done before tackling the outside.
Enjoy and know it will all come together.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING Canada- I have lots to be thankful for!

Friday, October 07, 2011

To all Canadian Sparkers- Have a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend! This weekend has special significance for me this year- come next Wednesday I will be celebrating one year with my new hip. My surgery was the day after Thanksgiving so I didn't partake in the huge feast, I'll make up for it this year
for sure.
After a week of insane weather including snow yesterday we now have brilliant sunshine and gorgeous fall colours to enjoy. We have one more week in our town rental and then next weekend we move to a trailer at our building site. Siding is going on our new house, drywall has been filled and sanded, the plumbers and electricians are almost finished and next week the floor people arrive to lay tile and hardwood. This weekend we will plant some trees and shrubs at the site, an early start on our future gardens. Life is good! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Happy thanksgiving to you too. We just got back from the island for hubbys mothers 76th bday. Now tomorrow sister in law sfor thanksg. and then dd is diong a huge thanksgiving - her first ever mal for others and first in ther new house since they were married. Should be interesting.
Glad your house is coming along. We may be doing ours much earlier than planned and having to have it built for us as I am now officially retired. Dr said no more working with a back like that.
So things have changed, we have a huge lot of decisions to make but will take our time... as long as I get insurances long term we will be fine. CPP well won't get a lot of that and that will chagne things yet again.
HUGS and have a super weekend!!!

Awesome Weekend!

Monday, September 19, 2011

Our son spent the weekend with DH and me insulating the walls of our new home. We will be weather tight with all that foam in the walls, once the ceilings are dry walled he will return to blow in a very thick layer of cellulose. We were his helpers and we got a workout-today we both are feeling the pain in muscles that haven't been used for years. It's a good pain however and it's good to know that older bodies can keep up the pace when they have been following an exercise program.
Our future sunroom:

One half of the helpers :-):

On the down side, our eating was terrible. No time or energy to cook so we resorted to Subway roast chicken sandwiches and EggMcMuffins. This morning's fruit and yogurt breakfast tasted so good after all that.
Can't wait to see what this week will bring.

    Looking good.
Building houses sure helps to keep one fit! Even if you do not always eat well.
Enjoy. emoticon

Insulation is good. I lived in an uninsulated house once. Brrrrrrrr!

Food wise, your weekend sounds like mine. Here's hoping we both do better this week.

Awesome and a question. What type of foam, you said blown in. was it totally the celulose or is that that new type the spray foam? Hubby would like to have the spary foam but is $$. Glad you were able to help and recoupe some costs.
We have been talking about our Cottage/house. I so hope it does come to fruition. Have to have patience as know it won't be this year or next.
You didn't to terrible in eating. aSubway isn't as bad as you could have chosen.
Glad you are back to your yogurt!

Feeling the Warmth

Friday, September 16, 2011

It's been a crazy and busy week- much has been accomplished. I have managed a brisk 45+ minute hike every day, did some heavy lifting yesterday moving lumber around the job site and food has been primal except for a sandwich caught on the fly Wednesday during a quick shopping trip in Halifax.
Plumbing and framing inspections are completed and the electrical will be inspected today. Tomorrow we will be insulating. Yesterday this was installed- we will be cozy this winter!

Next week we will see drywall and exterior siding.

Today:
1) Walk both dog and me later, it's pouring rain this morning.
2) Plan for some down time this weekend, both DH and I are frazzled.
3) Get groceries and plan meals for next week.

Day # 25- Feeling Ambitious

Sunday, September 11, 2011

Today:
1) Long morning walk with the dog- lots of pigeons and sea gulls to chase and I was on the back end of the leash :-)
2) Breakfast- 2 egg omelette with onion, sun dried tomatoes and chopped spud all topped with hot salsa, dinner will be BBQ steak, cauliflower and tomato half.
3) Leisurely walk thru another nursery and 3 purchases made- a red oak, a linden and an amur maple. They are big ones, off to a great start and will be delivered for planting in a couple of weeks after our well is hooked up to the house.
4) Finished another book - "Tiger Hills", a first time novel by Sarita Mandanna, published 2011, an excellent love/tragedy story.
5) Mowed the lawn- not an easy task as the owner has multiple trees and bushes planted helter-skelter. Bonus is that I found ripe blackberries, breakfast treat tomorrow!

Awesome I am glad you had a busy productive day. Me, we are at the trailer and I slept most of the day, I am super tired, and my eye is hurting a lot. I looked on line and this drug can cause dry eye and some people get too much pressure in eye. I have had a red eye 2 wks now but figured it was from bug bites areound my eye. Super sore today, and hubby thinks eye itself is swollen. So going down to 1 pill this eve and duty dr tomorrow or tuesdepending when we leave trailer which will also be dependant on my eye.
I have never had an issue with side effects till the lyrica which was for same issue, now this one. strange....... oh well as long as I can see and no lasting side effects to my eye.
again so glad you had a great day!!!
