Rest is in Order Today

Friday, January 28, 2011

I've been feeling really good in the gym and out, exercising 5 to 6 days per week and getting stronger. But yesterday and today I have been feeling the exhaustion of it all and thus I am going to stay completely away from exercise today and save it for tomorrow. Rest is an integral part of training and, having heard my body well, I'm going to let it rest!

Hope you have a great day!

Sounds like your listening to what your body is telling you, rest is impotant .

I just read something that pointed out that if you are feeling exhausted your body may need a few days off. Enjoy your rest!

CP25K--Week 5 Day 2 Went Well

Thursday, January 27, 2011

Last week I decided to repeat week 5 of the "Couch Potato to 5K" training plan because I messed it up the first time. So Tuesday was the first workout--warm up, jog 5, walk 3, jog 5, walk 3, jog 5, cool down. And today was the second workout--warm up, jog 8, walk 5, jog 8, cool down.

Today went well but I must admit that I'm a bit intimidated by the next workout--warm up, jog for 20, cool down. However, I know that the problem is in my head and I just need to settle into the workout and enjoy myself!

Hope you have a great day!

I think you are correct on how mental blocks are more likely then physical ones. You can do it!!

Jogged at 6.0 mph Yesterday

Wednesday, January 26, 2011

I'm new to jogging/running so I decided to start out slow at a pace that I could maintain over time. I settled in at 4.5 for the first few weeks, which is barely past the "crawl" stage I know but it worked for me! Then I crept up to 4.8 and then 5.0 on a regular basis, and finally last night I did a few intervals at 5.5 and 6.0. It felt really good to be able to jog at those speeds for a bit of time and I look forward to stretching myself and getting to the point where 6.0 is ho-hum for me!

Thanks for reading, hope you have a great day!

Great job! Soon you will be thinking 6.0 is way too slow for you.

CP25K--Re-Doing Week 5 because I Messed Up

Tuesday, January 25, 2011

A couple of years ago when I first heard of the "Couch Potato to 5K Plan" I made my own summary chart from the chart on the Cool Running website. Somehow I messed up and thought that all nine weeks included three identical runs but early this week--after having finished week five and started week six--I discovered that weeks 5 and 6 actually include three different runs.

Below I describe how these weeks are supposed to go but what I did was repeat the first run three times, at least for week 5, and I was planning to repeat the first run three times for week 6. But having reflected on the plan as it's actually written I've decided to go back one week and do week 5 the right way because I think it will better prepare my body for the rigors of running than going ahead the way I've been doing it.

Given that, here's how the program is supposed to go:

Week Five:
1. warm up / run 5 min & walk 3 min / run 5 min & walk 3 min / run 5 min / cool down
2. warm up / run 8 min & walk 5 min / run 8 min / cool down
3. warm up / run 20 min / cool down

Week Six:
1. warm up / run 5 min & walk 3 min / run 8 min & walk 3 min / run 5 min / cool down
2. warm up / run 10 min & walk 3 min / run 10 min / cool down
3. warm up / run 25 min / cool down

So today I'll do the first run of week 5 again and so on. At first I was a bit bummed about this because I felt like I was going backwards but actually I don't think it's a step back at all, rather, it's a step in the right direction because one way or the other I put in three solid runs last week.

Hope you're having a great day, and hope you're getting lots of joy from pursuing health!

Oh Yes, a Day of Rest!

Monday, January 24, 2011

Today's my day off and boy do I plan to take advantage of it! Here's my agenda:

1. Be lazy.
2. Do nothing.
3. Sleep when I sleep.
4. Sleep some more.
5. Do more nothing.
6. Go to bed.

Sound good? Hope you have a great day!
