C25K--Day 14, Should be 5

Thursday, November 18, 2010

Last year I failed at completing the "Couch Potato to 5K" plan so this year I decided to just to modify it. I added more walking on the front side and then made each week's workout last two weeks instead of one. That means that each stage of the progression lasts for six sessions rather than three.

So, I'm on week three of my version of the plan. I completed 12 brisk walks and then yesterday began to introduce the running. Actually more like jogging. I would normally put a day off in between but the schedule won't allow that this week so I'm going to go for it again today.

I do feel a bit sore but I stretched more yesterday than I normally do and this helped me quite a bit. As I said yesterday, I really HATE jogging/running but it's good for me and so I'm actually looking forward to it.

Hope you have a great day!

Jogging Today--Uugh, I don't like jogging!

Wednesday, November 17, 2010

I desperately want to increase my aerobic capacity this winter so that I can climb better, stronger, and faster on my bike next year. I have decided that the best way to get that done is to learn to run, even though I hate it--I mean I HATE it! I love cycling, love walking at a brisk pace, love just about every other form of aerobics, but I hate running.

Oh well, I must eat my veggies! So I'm starting the "Couch Potato to 5K" plan today. I tried this last year and only made it half way through before I quit. I'm going to push harder this year in the hope that I will not quit, but we'll have to see how it goes. All I know is that if I can learn to run for 5k without stopping I'll be able to climb so much better next year.

We'll see how it goes!

I hear ya on that "I HATE RUNNING!" What is this "runner's high" everybody says is so wonderful?????? Haven't found that yet. But I did also do a program similar to C25K and I did run my first (and probably last) 5K, achieving my goal. Now I should clarify that it's more the long distance running that I don't like. When I'm out walking, I love to break out in a jog or sprint for short spurts, but then it's back to walking. They say those intervals are good for a person too, so that's my story and I'm stickin' to it! You will finish that program and be ready to climb those hills next summer!

I, too, hate running. But, it's great that you are motivating yourself to run! Keep up the great work, it always pays off later :-)

Serious Workout Today!

Tuesday, November 16, 2010

Well, now that my doctoral project is done and I'm back to a more usual schedule, I'm looking forward to laser-focusing on "gym season" today. Technically, I'm in my third week of this season but my schedule has made it difficult to do all I had planned to do so in some ways this season starts today, at least in earnest.

My overall goal for the next several months is to improve my overall physical fitness by (1) increasing aerobic endurance, (2) increasing physical strength, and (3) scoring in the "normal" range for SP's push up test, crunch test, step-up test, and walk test.

I am partially looking forward to this and partially intimidated by the beating I'm going to give my body today! But mostly I'm looking forward.

Hope you have a great day!

Ah Yes, the Project is Finished

Monday, November 15, 2010

I was up until the wee hours of the morning working on my current doctoral project which is due today. My school fails all late papers and I had to have it post-marked Nov 15 or earlier, so this was it and it sure feels good to have it done.

More importantly, the project, which took months to construct and complete, greatly benefited my life as a lover of Jesus and a pastor of his church. And for that, I'm very grateful to God.

Doctoral Project Today

Sunday, November 14, 2010

I'm in a doctoral program designed for full-time pastors and today I have to finish up a rather substantial project which is due tomorrow. I'm behind the gun, as usual, but I must find a way to finish because at my school late paper's are failing papers--the only exceptions are for death or such like things.

So, I'll be working hard and well into the night, praying that the Lord will give me strength to do what I must do. Hope you have a great day!
