Oh boy, am I sleepy!

Sunday, October 17, 2010

It's been a long week at work. The wife and I decided to take a couple of days away to connect with one another and the Lord, but in order to do that I had to work some very long days this week, like 14-16 hour days. We did have a wonderful time together down in Wabasha MN, but I am so tired and sleepy!

Thank God that tomorrow is my day off. I look forward to getting some good rest and then tackling another week for the glory of Christ. Hope you had a good weekend, too!

Off for a 25 Mile Bike Ride

Saturday, October 16, 2010

My wife and I are hanging out in Wabasha MN today, just spending some time alone and with the Lord. We've decided to take a bike ride today that starts off going up one of the bluffs--about a 5 mile climb--and then loops back to the Mississippi River and back to Wabasha. It'll be about 25 miles and absolutely gorgeous. I can't wait to get going, but first we're off to have a good breakfast and a nice cup of Java!

Going to Wabasha MN Today

Friday, October 15, 2010

Every once in a while my wife and I get away together, and now is one of those times. We're heading down to Wabasha MN which is in the southeastern part of the state right on the mighty Mississippi river. The fall colors ought to be beautiful, and the bike ride just as lovely. Can't wait to get out there and feel the breeze against my face.

Hope you have a great weekend as well!

Great place to go. Hope you have a great time. Hope you can still get Harrelson apples and you have some. Just wondered if the Anderson House is still in business?

65 Miles Away from My Goal

Thursday, October 14, 2010

For the last two years one of my fitness goals has been to put in 2500 miles on the bicycle. Last year I fell 208 miles short, but this year I'm already at 2435 miles with 16 days left to go (fyi, I take Nov-Dec off the bike just to mix up my training and ensure that I don't burn out on my favorite sport). Given how my week is shaping up, I will most likely log the rest of those miles this week which means that I'll have reached the mark with just shy of two weeks left until the end of October.

So that got me to thinking...maybe I could make up the 208 miles I lacked last year to make it an even 5000 miles over the last two years. I'm the kind of guy that just having a thought like that pretty much guarantees that I'm going to do it, so I've set my mind to putting in 273 miles over the next 2.5 weeks which will be somewhat challenging but definitely doable.

Whether or not I reach that renewed goal, though, it sure feels good to see my odometer creeping so close to 2500 miles! Just eleven years ago I could hardly imagine riding a bike around the block and now I've put in enough miles over the last 10 months to make it 2/3 of the way across the country!

Thanks so much, Lord, for your grace in giving me a fitness activity that gives me so much joy and helps me steward my body for the glory of your Name!

Chilly Commute on the Bicycle Today

Wednesday, October 13, 2010

It's been very warm in the Twin Cities these days and so I've been wearing shorts because I can. Well, this morning I put on my shorts, got on the bike, headed out the garage and soon realized it was a bit colder than usual this morning! I just rode slow and let my body warm up while my thermometer on my bike computer cooled down. It started out at 75 degrees which must have been how warm it was in my pocket this morning, but then cooled down to 43 degrees within 10 minutes of riding. Luckily it's only a 3.2 mile commute into work!

Well, notice has been served--we Minnesotans have been enjoying an Indian summer but winter's a coming!
