Went XC Skiing

Monday, December 21, 2009

Went xc skiing for the first time this year and it sure felt good. This is my third year of doing xc and I'm enjoying it now more than ever because I've learned the basics and can now focus on exerting myself. Still have some learning to do about downhilling on xc skis but I'll learn!

I'm envious. I grew up in the Northeast and did XC skiing when ever I could as a teenager. One year I joined the girls team at my highschool, the year it didn't snow. So they made us run. I hate running. That was the last time I tried a team sport.

Anyway, from my experience, learning to sit down when going down hill is a good thing. I had been going up this trail, then turned around at the top. It was a kick turn because the trail was too narrow. Which meant the trail was also too narrow to snowplow to slow myself down. I'm going at a good click, around the last turn when I saw what I missed when I made the sharp right turn onto this uphill trail, The 8ft wood pile on the left side. Only options, face in bark or butt in snow.

Going XC Skiing

Sunday, December 20, 2009

We celebrated Christmas early with one side of the family tonight and my wife got a pair of xc skis, so the plan is for us to go skiing tomorrow as it's my day off. I love xc skiing and haven't gone out yet so I can't wait!

Creating a Larger Calorie Deficit

Saturday, December 19, 2009

I've been on a plateau since June! I've tried so many things to break through except substantially reducing my cals. So I'm going to try that for the next few weeks and see what happens. Wish me luck!

Reached 25,000 Spark Points!

Friday, December 18, 2009

Wow, what a nine months it's been! Here's a snap shot:

1. I've gone from 242 to 213.

2. I've cleaned out my kitchen and stocked it with good things and more importantly I've developed a taste for those good things--for instance, I literally crave spinach!

3. I rode my road bike 2,500 miles this year and logged over 15,000 fitness minutes.

4. I surpassed every personal cycling record this year and blew a couple of them out of the water, for instance, I completed my annual 300 mile MS charity ride at an average speed of 18.0 mph whereas my former best was 15.4!

5. I've inspired my wife, daughter, bro-in-law, and several friends to pursue a healthy lifestyle as well and I didn't even intend to do that!

6. I have so much more energy and joy, as well as joy in food.

7. And finally, I just surpassed 25,000 Spark Points!

It's been a very good year and I'm VERY thankful to God! I pray that 2010 will be even better as I strive to get to 190-195, put in 25,000 fitness minutes, and blow my cycling records out of the water again!

Long Day

Friday, December 18, 2009

Had a lot to do today and ended up working for 17 hours--wow, more than two day's work in one day! But it's been a good one and I'm so glad to have serveral things off my shoulders. So I'm tired but very thankful to the Lord.
