You'll Never Read This

Saturday, October 31, 2009

Sorry, it's Oct 31 and I thought it would be fun to play a "trick" rather than give a treat! Post a comment if you DID read this!

Off to retreat today

Friday, October 30, 2009

I have the privilege today of enjoying a 24 hour, all expenses paid retreat in lovely Chaska MN. I'll be meeting with several other pastors to discuss the nature of biblical leadership in the church, and I'm so grateful for the opportunity.

"Couch Potato to 5K" Run #7

Thursday, October 29, 2009

Today is the middle workout in my quest to complete the "Couch Potato to 5k" plan. I'm set to start with a brisk walk, run for 90 seconds, walk for 90 seconds, run for 3 minutes, walk for 3 minutes, and then repeat the whole cycle once. I really don't like running but pushing through the psychological and physical barriers will make me a better cyclist next year, I'm sure!

I survived my "run"

Wednesday, October 28, 2009

Well, yesterday was workout one of week three of the "Couch Potato to 5k" plan. After a good warmup, I ran for 90 seconds, walked for 90, ran for 3 minutes, walked for three and then repeated once. I then walked for another 10 minutes bringing the total workout to 30 minutes.

I know it must sound crazy but I wasn't sure I could run for 3 minutes. I can ride my bike forever (I put in 2500 miles this year) but running is just not my thing. But as I approached the first 3 minute run I told myself, "It's all in your mind. You have all the physical capacities you need to run and you can do this--it's all in your mind." And with that, I was able to complete the exercise fairly easily. We'll see how it goes next week when I bump up to 5 minute runs but for now I'm celebrating the fact that I accomplished this workout!

Keep up with the program, in a few weeks you'll be amazed at your progress and those 3 minutes will seem like nothing! emoticon

"Couch Potato to 5K" Week Three

Tuesday, October 27, 2009

Okay, here we go, I hate running, oh how I hate running, and yet I'm so compelled to try anyway. So I'm off to do the first workout of week three in the couch potato to 5k program. I'll run for 90 seconds, walk for 90 seconds, run for 3 minutes, walk for 3 minutes, and then repeat once. That's it. And yet I'm dreading trying to run for three minutes!

I can ride my bike for 125 miles in one day but I can't stand the thought of running for even 3 minutes--how does that work? I don't know but we'll see how it goes!
