Well, yesterday was workout one of week three of the "Couch Potato to 5k" plan. After a good warmup, I ran for 90 seconds, walked for 90, ran for 3 minutes, walked for three and then repeated once. I then walked for another 10 minutes bringing the total workout to 30 minutes.
I know it must sound crazy but I wasn't sure I could run for 3 minutes. I can ride my bike forever (I put in 2500 miles this year) but running is just not my thing. But as I approached the first 3 minute run I told myself, "It's all in your mind. You have all the physical capacities you need to run and you can do this--it's all in your mind." And with that, I was able to complete the exercise fairly easily. We'll see how it goes next week when I bump up to 5 minute runs but for now I'm celebrating the fact that I accomplished this workout!
