What a Great Ride!

Wednesday, April 08, 2009

Well my 55-miler went very well yesterday. Came in just slightly under 15.0 mph due to a stiff head wind over the last 11 miles. More importantly, my body felt good and strong just about the whole way through. I must admit though, that I couldn't have turned around and done the whole ride again which is essentially what I'll have to do on May 19. So, I hope I have designed a good enough training/rest regimen over the next six weeks to prepare me well for this long, and for me epic, bike ride.

Long Bike Ride Today

Tuesday, April 07, 2009

Today is the second of five endurance rides designed to prepare me for a one day, 110 mile bike ride on May 19. I'll be traveling 55 miles today, Lord willing, and will be shooting for 15 mph. Because I've been eating well for a couple of weeks now, my body feels so good physically and mentally, and I just can't wait to get out there and feel the chilly wind on my face (supposed to get up to 45 today).

Learning to See Rest as Part of the Plan

Monday, April 06, 2009

Monday is my one day off per week and two weeks ago, just after I started changing my eating habits, I was so totally out of energy that I didn't know what to do. It occurred to me that my body could simply be in a mild state of shock from the abrupt change I made in my diet, and looking back only 14 days later I'm sure that was the case.

Because now here I am on my day off having to plead with myself not to ride my bike today! I exercise six days per week and it's important to let the body rest and recover and rebuild--or so I'm told. So whereas two weeks ago I wasn't sure how I was going to push through the grogginess I was feeling, today I'm not sure how I'm going to take it easy!

What a great problem to have, and I sure am thankful to God for it!

I Survived a Church Potluck!

Sunday, April 05, 2009

I was concerned this morning about how I would handle our monthly church potluck. I'm the pastor of the church so I can't exactly skip it, so I had to find a way to exercise discipline in a situation where that is very difficult for me. But I was so pleased to see that, after only a few weeks, I really wanted to eat what was good for me and pass on the rest. I did enjoy a couple of things off the dessert table but in moderation and I plan to have a lower cal dinner this evening to offset that. I still have my guard up about situations like this, but I'm rejoicing in a small victory this afternoon!

Down 7 Pounds!

Saturday, April 04, 2009

I'm actually not too focused on weight loss. I'm more focused on eating well and exercising, trusting that my weight will land where it lands. But I must admit that it was very satisfying this morning to see that I'm down 7 pounds from only 14 days ago. Wow, these early pounds sure do go fast and it sure is fun! Whether or not I can sustain this pace of weight loss, though, I'm finding so much joy just in the fact of stewarding my body well again.
