Getting Close to 212

Tuesday, September 22, 2009

I've been on a plateau for months now. Going from 242 to 218 was relatively easy, the pounds just flew off. I was feeling great, cycling like a maniac, eating well, and enjoying life. So I was pretty surprised when I realized that, though I was continuing to do all the right things, I was not losing weight--at least not much. I have been slowly creeping down. Stuck for a while at 218 and then 217 and then 216 and so on.

Well, this morning I came very close to tipping the scale at 212 for the first time--I think I was at 213.2. Given my cycling goals for next year (in Minnesota we're already setting our minds on winter) I need to get down to 185 or 190 which is my ultimate goal so I'd sure like to be loosing faster than this. However, I'm very grateful for small gains and I'll squeeze all of the joy out of this I can!

I Fell Asleep While Writing This Blog!

Sunday, September 20, 2009

So it's Sunday afternoon. I had a great day of worship and learning and fellowship at church followed by a good lunch at a local Chinese joint (Chinese is my favorite), and then I laid down to rest, watch a little football (football's my favorite, too) and do my SP stuff for the day. I open up the blog box and think for a few minutes about what to say and the next thing I know I'm waking up from an hour nap!

Oh I love those unplanned, unexpected, couldn't-stay-awake-if-I-wanted-to Sunday afternoon naps!

Lower Body Today but the Core is Still Sore!

Saturday, September 19, 2009

Today's my day to workout the lower body but I'm not sure how hard I'm going to go because my core is still pretty sore from my workout two days ago. I've never intensely worked out those muscles before (abs, obliques, lower back) and at 42 I think my body's saying, "Yo, man, what's this all about?" I'll grow through the pain, no doubt, but I don't want my entire body to be killing me! On the other hand, I have a competitive spirit and it's very hard for me to go easy so we'll see how it goes.

I'm certainly no fitness expert. However, I have found that when I get sore from working out my core, that my next core workout cures the pain.

So if I did core work on Tuesday and am sore, and repeat my core work on Thursday, the pain seems to be less severe.
(Just my two cents!)

Oh the Core is Sore!

Friday, September 18, 2009

I've been working my core at a fairly mellow level for a few months now and so I decided to fire up the intensity yesterday. I worked my abs, obliques, and lower back pretty hard in two separate sessions which was a good thing but I must say that getting out of bed this morning was "interesting"! It turns out you use your core quite a bit and I think I'll be discovering all the ways today! I'm sure my family won't be strangers to such sounds as "ouch" "ooh" "ugh"!
