Core Training Today

Thursday, September 17, 2009

Last time I did a full core workout I was sore for 5 days! I guess that shows just how out of shape my mid-section is. I look forward to the day when I can tell a different story and today is one step in that direction. I plan to complete the following exercises at the gym:

Inclined bench sit-ups
Back extensions
Side bends with dumbbells
Side crunches
Side planks
Plank

Wish me luck!

I Like Sleep

Wednesday, September 16, 2009

Every other week I have an early morning meeting on Wednesdays and it always seems that the night before I end up working late into the night. Last night was no exception so I only got 6 hours of shut eye which isn't anywhere near enough for me. I can't wait to hit the pillow tonight because I really love sleep and a day like this helps me to remember that fact!

Upper Body Strength Training Day

Tuesday, September 15, 2009

I do strength training 3 times per week: upper body then core then lower body. Today was upper body day and I pushed more than usual because I felt ready to do so. That felt good but I am a bit sore. I'm so excited to see what consistent strength training does for (1) overall health, (2) weight loss, and (3) speed on the bike next year.

Pushing Through a Lull in Motivation

Monday, September 14, 2009

Ever since I started SP in March of this year I have been concerned about the time when the newness of it all would wear off, I would lose the intensity of my motivation, and would thus slip back into old habits. Lately I've been slipping into this motivational lull. It's not that the wheels have come off because I've still been making relatively good choices but I haven't lost weight in probably two months and I guess the lack of progress has caused me to lose heart just a little.

But now is the time fight! Along with the first few weeks when you have to work so hard to build momentum this is probably the hardest moment in the journey toward health. And it's the moment at which 95% of "dieters" turn around and go back. I don't want to turn around and go back. I want to be among the 5% who push through and make it to the end.

So today I choose, by the power and grace of Jesus Christ, to grow up and do the right thing no matter what I "feel" like doing. I choose to pursue health and, one day at a time--even just one decision at a time--become the man God has intended me to be.

Are you Ready for Some Football?

Sunday, September 13, 2009

I sure am! Even though I live in Minnesota, there are only two seasons--no, I don't mean winter and construction seasons. I mean football season and not-football season! I like football season the best.

The 49ers are my main team, rain or shine, and it's been lots of rain for a long time now. But since I've lived in the this great winter-wonderland for a number of years now I do consider myself a Vikings fan as well. Favre is supposedly giving us hope this year but I'm not convinced. I've always liked Favre, even when he was screwing up the 49ers plans for victory, but I think he should've retired. Oh well, I still blow the Vikings horn and "root, root, root for the home team"!

Loved this blog. I've been in a similar place recently and don't want to give up but push through. I could have written the things you said. It was encouraging to read what you wrote. Thanks. Keep on moving forward by His grace.
