A Good Hilly Ride in Rochester MN

Took a nice ride today with a couple of friends in Rochester MN. I was there helping them think about starting a new church. Oh that we had hills in the Minneapolis area like they have there! It was so much fun struggling to get my big belly up each of them and even more fun flying down. I even got up to 42 mph at one point and could have gone faster but I had some shifting problems!

Oh well, I guess you just have to thank the Lord for what he's given you and figure how to go and enjoy what he's withheld from you when you can!

  


Riding with Team Giant this Weekend

My family is going down to Rochester MN for a night and a day and we plan to enjoy a ride with my friend Bob and his son Johnny. Both Bob and Johnny ride Giant Bicycles as do I so we've named ourselves "Team Giant." I don't know what they have planned for me but Johnny loves climbing so I'm getting myself ready to feel the burn!

  


Had to Take it Easy with the Weights

Yesterday was an upper-body strength training day but I had to take it easy because my lower back is giving out on me. I probably shouldn't have even worked out but I made sure my back was very secure and I reduced the weights for each exercise, and my back actually felt better after I was done. This has happened to me a time or two before and I really don't get it, nothing particular happened, so I just have to wait it out and be careful not to injure myself even more.

It felt so good to be that determined to work out, though. In years past I would have used this as an excuse to wimp out--well, wimps no more!

  


Nice Ride Yesterday, Strength Training Today

Although the days are getting shorter in MN and it's getting harder to get my evening rides in, I did manage to spin for about 17 miles yesterday. It was a great ride because I started out into the wind and came home with the wind at my back--just the way I like it!

Today is a strength training day wherein I'll focus on my upper body. I've never really been into strength training so I'm starting out at a pretty mellow pace, lower weights at 12-15 reps. As my body adapts I'll add more weight and less reps but for now I'm just trying to build a lifestyle.

    It always catches me off guard how fast the sunset time decreases this time of year! Not to mention adjusting to waking while still dark.

Start of Another Great Week!

Monday is my one day off per week so Tuesday is the first day of the week for me. I look forward to three good bike rides, three days of strength training, and renewing my commitment to SP principles by starting to work through them again.

Mostly, I look forward to seeking the Kingdom of God and his righteousness through Jesus Christ, for "at his right hand are pleasures evermore!" (Psalm 16:11)
