I want a canoe!

Sunday, September 06, 2009

Our church had a picnic at a local lake today and one of the teenage boys and I canoed all the way around the lake. It was so much fun but the problem is that now I really want a canoe!

Hmm, it's September in Minnesota, winter is already on the mind, probably not the best time to buy a canoe. I think I'll wait until next year.

I have wanted a canoe ever since I was 16. We went canoeing at the camp ground in Disney World. So much fun!

Ahh but since it is fall the prices on the canoes will be lower now than in the spring! If you are close to Minneapolis check out Midwest Mountaineering. They have a great staff and once in a while they hold a garage sale. Not sure exactly when, I just discovered them this summer myself!

Good idea, waiting until spring that is, but canoeing is still exercise!

Then We Truly Live

Saturday, September 05, 2009

The quote on the front page of SP this morning is, "When we are motivated by goals that have deep meaning, by dreams that need completion, by pure love that needs expressing, then we truly live" (Greg Anderson).

I don't know. I think we need something more than these to find true life.

"When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, 'Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you, since you have given him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him. And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do. And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had with you before the world existed'" (John 17:1-5).

When we humble ourselves before God and live life on his terms, then we truly live. For as the Bible says in Psalm 16:11, "You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore." The problem with us is that we're in rebellion against God. If we would only lay our weapons down and surrender we would find true life.

Rest Day Today

Friday, September 04, 2009

I've been exercising at a fairly intense level lately and my body is saying, "Hey, pal, how about a day off?" So I'm going to listen to that. Over training is a bad thing. I'll probably go for a mellow walk later this evening but I'm going to call off the strength training and jogging for the day. I'm sure I'll be glad I did tomorrow and the next day!

I wish I had your enthusiasm...sadly I've been taking more of the mellow walks and a bit of riding too.

Great job on listening to your body!...make it a great weekend...kath

Couch Potato to 5K

Thursday, September 03, 2009

I've never liked running but a few months ago I worked walking into my exercise routine and pretty soon I developed a desire to run. So I found this program on-line that's called "Couch Potato to 5K in 9 Weeks." It starts out very slowly. In week one you do three 20 minute workouts in which you jog for 60 seconds and then walk for 90 seconds, then you slowly build from there.

So yesterday was officially day one although I've been playing with jogging/walking for a couple of months now. I'm very excited about this and can't wait until I have enough stamina to run for a longer period of time!

Good job! You'll have great success. I love hearing about these couch to 5K programs! When you start running, you may hear a lot about damaging your knees. Here's a Spark Article on it. http://www.dailyspark.com/blog.asp?

Me too! I did my first workout on Monday. I didn't get through all the runs but I walked fast and made it through. Today is the second go at it!
