What a Waste of Time!

Wednesday, September 02, 2009

Had a meeting with the trainer at my local Anytime Fitness yesterday. It was my so-called "one free session" but it was actually a moronic 15 minute workout followed by a 30 minute sales pitch. I liked the guy so I let him go through his presentation but the whole time I was thinking, "He's making the classic sales mistake--he's failed to listen to his customer." You can sell just about anything if you'll learn to listen to people and care about what they want/need. If he had done this he might have actually made a sale but as it was he just irritated me. The last thing a guy like me needs is a $300 per month personal trainer!

Oh well, not the end of the world. I'm off now to execute the strength training plan I had already developed before meeting with the trainer!

It sounds that you have you head on straight. The trainer did not work out but you can do it. Good Luck.

Working out with a trainer today

Tuesday, September 01, 2009

I've belonged to several gyms in the past--Family Fitness (we used to call it "Family Fatness"), Nautilus, UC Berkeley's student/faculty gym, and the YMCA are the ones that come to mind. This time around I decided not to join a gym but rather to do my strength training at home, however, I've come to the point in my quest for fitness where I need more strength training "tools" than I now have.

As I thought through my options, I came to think that joining a gym might actually be the best option because (1) I've already built the habit of exercising 6 days per week and so I'm eager to strength train, in other words, I won't struggle with actually going to the gym, (2) at $12 per month it's actually the financially sensible decision, and (3) I really don't want to take up an entire room in my house to fit a weight training system.

So, I joined the gym last week and I've worked out there twice so far. Today I meet with the trainer for my one free session. I look forward to this because, although I've worked out with machines for many years, I've never used free weights much which is what the trainer is going to guide me through. We'll see how it goes!

I'm Tired

Sunday, August 30, 2009

It's been another long week--I worked just shy of 70 hours and 72 hours last week. For some this is normal but it's whacked for me and I'm sure ready for my day off!

Low Cal "Soup" Day

Saturday, August 29, 2009

Well, my wife and I went out and celebrated her new job last night and I ate a wee much! So I'm going to opt for a low cal soup day today, which means I'll eat soup for every meal and snack as normal. I usually only do this on Mondays, my day off, but this is the price I pay for indulging yesterday!

It was worth it.
