I need some rest

Sunday, June 21, 2009

As far as bikers go, I haven't biked all that much this week--103 miles. But I've been training each of those days so they've been hard miles. I love being on my bike so much that I want to go out again today, but I know that if I do I'll begin working against myself. So I better rest. Wow, this is a great problem to have given that I was pretty much a couch potato just 4 months ago.

Down 2 Pounds!

Saturday, June 20, 2009

Well, after being on a plateau for a couple of weeks I was down 2 lbs this morning. Boy, that felt good! Now, steady as she goes and hopefully I'll lose another 5 lbs by July 26 when I hop on my bike and ride for 300 miles to raise money for MS, which ails my wife.

The things that Matter Most

Friday, June 19, 2009

I love the quote on the front page of SP today: "Things which matter most must never be at the mercy of those which matter least."

Lately my fellow pastor and I have been working very hard at refining our daily habits because, we believe, the secret to building a God-honoring, successful, satisfying life is intimately related to our daily routine. Thus, I have created something I call "The Daily Non-Negotiables." It's just a Word document that lists the handful of things I want to give attention to every single day, knowing that every once in a while there will be exceptions.

So I start my day by spending time with the Lord, reading the Bible and praying, and then I pull up that document and leave it open all day long. Then as I go throughout the day and accomplish each thing on my list, I highlight it in yellow to show that it's been done.

This has helped me SO MUCH to keep the things that matter least from swallowing up the things that matter most.

What do you do to cherish and protect the things that matter most in your life?

Glad for a light Exercise Day

Thursday, June 18, 2009

I've had a couple of good, hard workouts in a row this week and so today the plan is to take it easy and let my body heal up. I'll just be walking for 30 minutes or so. And I'm glad. I need a little break!

18.2 mph was not an Anomaly

Wednesday, June 17, 2009

The other day I went for a bike ride, 17.2 miles, and averaged 18.2 mph. That's very fast for me, I've only ridden that fast a handful of times in my 10 years of biking. I thought it was an anomaly but I went for a 22.0 ride yesterday and, I'll be, I hit 18.2 mph again.

Wow. Since I've been with SP I've been more consistent with exercise than in the past, and I've been more disciplined with food over time. This has resulted in a lighter, stronger, faster me!

The scale has been stalled for me over the last couple of weeks but other things, like my average mph, are going in the right direction. Thanks SP.
