Riding Much Faster, Thanks to SP

I love cycling, it's really a passion for me. Every year I take a 5-day, 300-mile bike ride for MS research since my wife suffers with the disease, and every year I set a particular goal and strive to reach it. This year my goal is to achieve an average speed of 15.5 mph because my former best is 15.4. An increase of 1/10 of a mph may not seem like much, but over a 300 mile distance it's actually quite a bit.

Well, I expected to be sustaining speeds of 16.0 or so on shorter rides by this time of year but just yesterday I went for a fairly intense 10 mile ride and achieved an average speed of 17.5 mph. I think this is due to following SP because I'm lighter, my body has all the nutrients it needs to perform well, and I've been slowly building strength and stamina as I've committed myself to exercising 6 days per week.

So thanks SP! If I reach or exceed my goal it'll be your fault!

I Love Soup

Man, I sure do love soup! Ate it twice today. Low cal, full of goodies, tasty--gimmie, gimmie, gimmie!

    another soup and stew lover here as well... warm and so good for you when you pump up the veggies.

Canned does it in a pinch, but I like making my own so much more.

    I love soup! I try to order a cup of clear soup and a salad when we go out to dinner. It always pays off in satisfaction.

"Low Cal Monday"

Monday is my one day off each week, and for the last several weeks I've been going very low cal on these days. I work hard from Tuesday through Sunday and thus I usually do a bunch of nothing on Mondays. So it doesn't make sense to me to eat my normal cal load on these days. I've been shooting for 1200-1500 cals on these days which leaves me satisfied (because I'm just laying around) and usually a little lighter the next day!

So, I don't know if it's the best idea but "Low Cal Monday" works for me!

I just returned from a great 40 mile ride in the woods with a great friend of mine, and I must say that I really love cycling. What a great gift from the Lord!

My wife and I had the privilege of meeting last night with a woman who's given her life in service to the Lord in India. As we listened to her stories, her hopes and dreams, her concerns and needs, it hit me all the more that healthy living is not an end in itself--it simply prepares you to give yourself to more important things. The better I feel, the more energy I have, the clearer my mind is, the more I will be able to give myself in service to the Lord and others.
