Off to the University of Minnesota

Saturday, March 24, 2012

Our daughter was accepted to the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus earlier this year, and today we go for an orientation. I'm so proud of her and so thankful to Jesus for eighteen years of grace in raising her, especially for the fact that she loves him too!

Took a brief ride this morning and may take one later, but otherwise I'll be lost in Gopher-land!

Hope you have a great day!

5K Today and a Recovery Ride

Thursday, March 22, 2012

Completed week five workout 2 of 3 in my half-marathon training plan today, a 5K. I'm training to walk/jog because I'm just not in good enough shape to jog the whole time but that's okay by me. It's a huge deal for me to even want to jog much less be taking on such a big goal as this. After I finish this one, I'll continue training and look at jogging an entire half before the year is out.

After I was finished, I hopped on the bike and went for a recovery ride of about 11 miles. Mellow pace, actually marked the miles for the 7 mile route I'll walk/jog this Sunday, as well as another 4 mile route I walk/jog fairly often.

Anyhow, that was my workout for the day, hope you had a great one!

Out for a 5K this morning

Tuesday, March 20, 2012

Alright, here we go, week five of the half-marathon training plan. Today I will jog/walk a 5k and then again on Thursday, followed by a 7 mile jog/walk on Sunday with some cycling in between. It's overcast and 54 degrees this morning, but just humid enough to make it feel a bit warmer so I'll head out in the next hour or so and see how it goes!

What about you? What's the plan for the day?

Have a good one and God bless!

Exercise Plan for the Week or Turtles are Immune to Wind Resistance

Monday, March 19, 2012

Had a great 5 mile jog/walk yesterday. It was beautiful in the Minneapolis area, although the wind was blowing very hard. When I'm cycling that makes a huge difference but it doesn't bother me at all when I'm jogging. I'm sure faster runners are affected by the wind but not me--turtles are immune to wind resistance!

Anyway, nice cap to a good week of exercise, here's the plan for this week:

Monday: Day Off
Tuesday: 3 mile jog/walk
Wednesday: Speed Endurance workout on the bike
Thursday: 3 mile jog/walk
Friday: Recovery ride on the bike
Saturday: Brief recovery walk or ride, or day off as my schedule insane this day
Sunday: 7 mile jog/walk

Hope you have a great day, God bless!

Great job. Keep up the good work. Add some swimming and you could train for sprint triathlon. If you've never done one before, you will absolutely love it! Much better than just running or cycling on it's own! emoticon

I actually think I can walk faster than I can jog! I am so used to jogging in place indoors that when i try it outside I don't go anywhere!

Day of Rest Yesterday, 5 Mile Jog/Walk Today

Sunday, March 18, 2012

I was scheduled to take a 5 mile jog/walk yesterday but my body was telling me that it needed a day off and I said "yes." I'm glad I did, I feel much better today, and so I'm off in about 5 minutes to complete this workout.

Tomorrow's my day off so I'll rest again and then see how it goes next week. I want to push hard but I've learned that sometimes pushing hard produces worse rather than better results. So we'll take it a day at a time here and give it what we've got when we've got it!

Hope you have a great day!
