So Proud of My Daughter

Saturday, March 17, 2012

Last night our family went to the Hall of Fame Dance Competition where our daughter and her dance team competed in the hip-hop category--and won first place! They now qualify to go to a national competition in Chicago but it remains to be seen if the families involved are willing to take on the task of making that happen as it's expensive. But hey, you only live once, I say make the kids work hard to raise money and let's go!

Anyhow, so proud of our girl!

Have a great day.

Proud you should be of the accomplishment your daughter and team has won. They worked very hard to coordinate their routine and get it all togeher. Our daughter was on a dance line in both figure skating and dance line at her high school---so know these girls work vwry hard---and get wonderful exercise while doing something the enjoy. I agree all efforts by the girls with some help of their familes should be made for them to compete in Chicago--it is a wonderful honor and experience they can treasure.

Recovery Ride Today

Friday, March 16, 2012

Had a good 5K jog/walk yesterday, plan to take a recovery ride today as I'm feeling pretty tired. I've learned to live by the rule "when in doubt cut it out," that is, when you're body is tired and you're not sure if you should push through and do a hard workout anyway, it's best to either decrease intensity or cut the workout out altogether. I actually would just cut it out today but it's supposed to be in the mid 70s or higher in Minneapolis today and I won't be able to stop myself!

How about you? What's the plan for the day? Blessings to you all, hope you have a good one.

Strength Workout on the Bike

Thursday, March 15, 2012

Had a great day of exercise yesterday. Jogged/walked for 2.5 miles in the morning, worked for a few hours, and then hopped on the bike for a 22 miler. Yesterday was a strength training day on the bike so here's what I did.

After a 10 minute warmup at a fairly high cadence (100 rpm), I clicked it down a few gears so that I could only keep a cadence of 80-85 for 3 minutes. Then I recovered for 2 minutes and then I repeated this cycle for the duration of the ride. I completed about 10 cycles and by the end my legs were wobbly!

But that's the point. I did a good job of recovering--stretching, massaging, and post-ride snacks--and so have no soreness today, for which I'm very grateful.

As for today, going to jog/walk a 5k and call it a day. Hope you all have a great one!

Bad News, Good News

Wednesday, March 14, 2012

Bad news: ran out of time yesterday and couldn't do my training run.

Good news: have plenty of time today and will be able to get that in this morning, and also go for a bike ride later in the day as planned.

Yeah for me, can't wait to enjoy the beautiful weather in Minnesota! Hope you have a great day, too.

Training Plan for the Week

Tuesday, March 13, 2012

Mondays are my one day off per week which means that Tuesdays are like Mondays to me. So with that, here's my training plan for this week:

Tuesday: 2.5 mile jog/walk, upper body strength in gym
Wednesday: 20 mile bike ride, strength workout
Thursday: 3.0 mile jog/walk, core strength in gym
Friday: 20 bike ride, cadence workout
Saturday: 5.0 mile jog/walk, upper and core strength in gym
Sunday: 20 mile bike ride, speed endurance workout

I'll say more about what I do with each of these workouts as the days go by, but for now I just want to give thanks to the Lord Jesus for a great day of rest and for the opportunity to be alive another day! I hope to make the most of the gift of life this week.

Have a great day!
