I have now read every Health A-Z article!

Sunday, December 11, 2011

It's been one of those "fun" goals of mine ever since I signed up for SP in March of 2009, and today I reached it! I have read every one of the Health A-Z articles, though I must admit that I've not read them all very carefully. Don't really feel the need to acquire knowledge about certain subjects!

Anywho, as soon as I post this blog I'll reset my health articles and start all over again. Uh oh, the competitive side is coming out: I wonder if I could read them all again in less time!

I did that, too! Cool, eh?

I only wish that the powers that be can allow one to reset quizzes - I don't believe that's possible now, and that would be nice!

Our Family is Growing by 3 Today--But Only for 3 Days!

Friday, December 09, 2011

Some friends of our are going to Seattle for a few days and asked if we would take care of their kids while they're gone, and of course we said yes. So today at 5:30 I'll be picking up two teenage girls and a teenage boy, feeding them--oh Lord, that's going to take a lot of food--after which we're going to take them Christmas shopping with us.

Tomorrow my wife will make her famous German pancakes for them, after which we'll...I have no idea. But then it's church on Sunday, who knows what in the afternoon, send them off to school on Monday and we're done.

The kids are great kids so we're really looking forward to having them around. We always thought we'd have more kids but didn't, so I guess tomorrow we'll get a taste of what it would have been like!

My Top 5 Motivators

Thursday, December 08, 2011

There are, of course, many things that motivate me to care for my body and pursue health, but this morning I spent a little time thinking about my top 5 motivators. I find this helpful because clarifying the deeper things that drive me on helps me to keep my eyes on the right prize, and not to be so obsessed with superficial things like the number on the scale or the size of my pants. So here we go:

1. To demonstrate my love for Jesus Christ, my God and Savior, by caring for the body He so graciously granted me. The pursuit of health is essentially about worship. This is true for everyone so the question is NOT "are you worshiping?" but "what are you worshiping?"

2. To heighten my joy in this life. The Lord has created us to have eternal joy in Him and the things He's created and I find that when I eat well and exercise regularly, my capacity for joy increases.

3. To be a better husband and father. I want to set the right example at home, and I want to be around for as long as I can for the sake of others. I lost my father when I was 11. He was 51 and died of his second heart attack. By the grace of God in Jesus Christ, I'm ready to die and meet my Maker, but for the sake of my wife and daughter I'd like to be around for a while. I really hated growing up without my daddy.

4. To be a better Pastor. I have the joy and privilege of leading a small church in Elk River, Minnesota called Glory of Christ Fellowship and I want to be a good example to the people. I want to teach them by my way of life that the way we treat our bodies matters, that it's part of a life of worship and service to the Lord. And one of the things that's surprised me most over the last several years is that as I've pursued a healthy lifestyle, many people at church have begun to do the same even though I haven't said much about it.

5. To meet new people, be a blessing to them, and be enriched by them. One of the most enjoyable things about this lifestyle is all of the awesome people I've met through SP, cycling and running events, and just out on the roads.

So what are your "Top 5"? I'd love to hear them.

Tim Hawkins--Great Comedian

Monday, December 05, 2011

Last night our family went with some friends to see Tim Hawkins in concert--he was hilarious! And he's totally clean as well, which is so refreshing. You can check him out on You Tube or at timhawkins, net.

Hope you have a great day!

Busyness--The Bane of my Exercise Plans!

Saturday, December 03, 2011

I was scheduled to workout today, full body deal I wrote about a couple days ago, but I went to work at 7:30 a.m. and got home at 8:30 p.m. I would love to make up for it tomorrow but again my day starts early--even earlier in fact--and ends late--even later in fact.

Oh well, I suppose the trick is to never give up even though circumstances sometimes make it hard to follow through with our plans.

I have no doubt you will get it figured out. My husband thinks I am insane. I go to bed at 8:30, get up to go to the gym at 4:30, work from seven fifteen to 6pm...and repeat. Nasty weather drives me nuts and all my riding has been at the gym for the past two weeks. emoticon emoticon
