Went over the 1500-mile mark on the bike today

One of my cycling goals for this year is to put in 3,000 miles on the bike. I didn't plan it this way but it just so happened that on June 30, the last day of the 6th month of the year, I crested over the 1,500 mile mark. I'm sitting at 1507 right now which means I only have 1493 miles left to go!

  I wish I had a bike and also wish that my husband's health was better than it is so we could go riding together... it would help motivate me to get out and exercise alot more if his health was better..

Perfect Day for Cycling

Oh boy is it perfect for cycling or what? It's 67 degrees with mostly clear skies in Minneapolis and I just can't wait to get out on the bike. It'll be a mellow ride today but that's even better because it will help me remember to enjoy the day!

The Cycling Plan for this Week

Next week is my last major training week for my annual cycling event, the Ride Across Minnesota (5 days, 300 miles). The plan is to take five 40 mile rides in a row at race pace. The goal is to come in at an average speed of 18.0+ mph.

So the question is, what to do with this week? Given how I'm feeling right now I think rest is probably more important than anything else. So given this need here's what I plan to do:

1. Pay particular attention to nutrition, ensuring that I stay at around 1800 cals per day and get a good mix of carbs, protein, and liquids.

2. Work hard during the day but sleep long at night! I need sleep right now, I'm very tired. Praise God, I was able to sleep 10 hours last night but I need more. So sleep is my number one priority this week.

3. Ride at recovery pace 3-4 days this week for no more than 15 miles per ride. Stay completely off the bike for 2-3 days before the training begins.

4. Complete my normal core routine 3 days this week, leaving at least two days of rest before the training begins.

So, day by day, here's what I'll probably do:

Monday: Off
Tuesday: Recovery ride and core training
Wednesday: Recovery ride and light core training
Thursday: Off
Friday: Recovery ride and core training
Saturday: Off--clean bike
Sunday: Off

Wiped Out Today

I am SO tired. I've rarely felt this tired, thank God that tomorrow is my day off and that I have nothing more to do today. I'm going to bed and I'm going to get up--well, pretty much--until Tuesday morning! Yea for me, hope you have a good evening.

30 Miles Yesterday, Another 30 Today

Last week was a big cycling week for me as I'm entering into the final approach to my major annual cycling event, The Ride Across Minnesota. I took 5 30-mile rides in a row at race speed and did fairly well--I came in at a total average speed of 18.1 mph. With all of the climbing I had to do that week I felt very good about that.

I had planned to take a couple of days off the bike but ended up taking 6 days off due to circumstances. That's too much time off but what could I do? I had planned to ride for about 60 miles this week so yesterday I did 30 at an average speed of 18.5 mph and today I plan to do another 30 or so. I'm going to shoot for at least 18.0 but I don't plan to push the pace too much today, just put in a good ride and let the chips fall where they may.

I have yet to decide exactly how I'm going to steward this coming week but I do want to think through it carefully as the next week I plan to take 5 40-mile rides at race pace. This will be my final, intense preparation for the TRAM after which I will have two weeks to recover before the big event--5 days, 300 miles.
