I've been reading and studying about nutrition since I joined sparkpeople a few months back. Last week I started banishing vegetable oils and added sugar from the foods I eat. I added more veggies less carbs and way more fat than I normally eat and I feel so much better. Food allergies have just about driven me bonkers the last year. Wheat, gluten, chicken, turkey, swiss cheese, barley, peanuts. I tried banishing all of them somewhat successfully but the bread substitutes just made things worse. The gluten free foods sometimes didn't sit well with my digestion and I was always HUNGRY. Itchy skin was driving me mad and scabby spots on my eyelids and face had me using a prescription cream to deal with the eczema. Dermatologist said it was from the food allergies. The bags under my eyes made me look older and more tired than normal and I was tired all the time. I read the book Wheat Belly, and Michael Pollen book In Defense of Food again and decided to dump all the processed foods, extra sugar, and vegetable oils. Well after 1 week I can truly say I feel much better. The spots on the eyelids gone others on face smaller, eczema on fronts of legs diminished not gone but smaller, itching much less. I'm sleeping better and I've lost 1.5 inches in my waist. I'm not hungry and I feel so much better. I'll keep you posted. emoticon

Not to Bad

I did fairly well over Christmas despite having to clean and cook dinner for 27. Whew what a job I stuck pretty good to my overall calorie count. I did eat quite a bit of junk just not as much of it. Anyway the allergies got me anyway either the wheat or gluten hidden in so many items pushed me over the edge so I spent all Christmas day with stomach discomfort and itchy itchy skin. Man you would think that after a few rounds of feeling miserable it would be enough to keep me away from the foods that are making me feel bad. I wish it were as easy as eat and feel sick right away. No I have a lag of 24 to 48 hours so my brain never gets the cause and effect. It is slowly starting to sink in though as I was very uncomfortable scratching like crazy for more than a day. I suppose it will get easier to stick to plan every time I mess up like that as I don't want to feel so bad. Went riding yesterday for about 3 hours about 10 miles total so I was feeling much better. emoticon


Old Habits Die Hard

Last 3 days I've started to slip into old habits and reach for the sweets. Cookie, donuts, candy. UGH I've got to stay away from the sugar. Once I slip then it's craving time big time. If I stick with fruit and berry's or something sweet that isn't so stuffed with sugar I don't get the sugar cravings. I think I'll buy a box of the high protein bars that they sell on Amazon nice and sweet but full of good stuff.

I had someone at work stop me today to say "What are your doing you look great" There is no way the 5 lbs I've lost has made that much difference but honestly I feel much better more energetic and all the veggies and fruit I'm eating instead of sugar and baked goods has made me feel less puffy and swollen so I'm not nearly as bloated which may make me look lower. Any way big woo-hoo moment and a real pick me up.
