MOSES, FOLLOWING IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF FAITH, 7/5/2012

Exodus 16:1-7, 14-15; Numbers 11:1-9
ARE YOU SATISFIED WITH GOD’S GIFT, Lesson 11b

Ex. 16:4-7 THEY EXPERIENCED A GRACIOUS DELIVERANCE

They Experienced God’s Mercy - Even though they are after help in the wrong way, God still moves in power to meet their need! What a picture of grace and mercy! These people deserved judgment and wrath, yet God reached out to them in love, grace and compassion. He extended divine grace to them, when they deserved something far different!

Every person who is saved today, or who will ever be saved in the future, has received far better than he or she deserved! In fact, the Bible is clear that we all deserve to be in Hell, (Psa. 9:17; Rom. 6:23). But, God is a God of grace and love! You see, in spite of our sinful condition, God loved us anyway, (Jer. 31:3). He proved this love by the gift of His Son, Jesus, on Calvary, (John 3:16, Rom. 5:6-9). He demonstrated His grace toward us when He sent conviction to our hearts,( John 6:44). The fact that Jesus Christ went to Calvary, died in agony there, arose in victory three days later, ascended back to Heaven as our great High Priest, and promises to save all who will come to Him today, (Rev. 22:17; Rom. 10:13; Matt. 11:28; John 6:37) is a demonstration of God‘s Love and Gift!

Friend, never doubt the mercy and grace of God! It is the only reason why we can be here today! It is the only reason you have made it this far in this life. It is the only chance you have of salvation! There is no doubt that God loves you. The question is, do you love Him?

They Experienced God’s Manna - As I just said, God moved in response to their need and sent them exactly what they needed. He sent them bread from Heaven. He sent them the manna! This bread, that lay upon the ground in the morning for 40 years, sustained them as they traveled toward the promised land. Evidently, the Manna was everything they needed for good health and satisfaction. Just what they needed, was just what God sent to them!

In the Manna, we can see a clear picture of Jesus Himself. He even compared Himself to the Manna in John 6:35. Notice quickly the way the Manna points ahead to Jesus, the genuine Bread from Heaven:

1. It Was Small - Exodus 16:14 - This speaks of Christ's humility.

2. It Was Round - Exodus 16:14 - This speaks of Christ's eternal nature, (John 1:1).

3. It Was White - Exodus 16:31 - This reminds us of the sinless, holy nature of the Lord Jesus Christ, (1 Pet. 2:22; 2 Cor. 5:21).

4. It Came At Night - Exodus 16:13-14 - Jesus came to a world lost in spiritual darkness and gave them light and life (John 1:4).

5. It Was Misunderstood By Those Who Found It - Exodus 16:15 - They called it Manna which means, "What is it?" Jesus was misunderstood by the very people He came to save - (John 1:11; John 10:20).

6. It Was Sufficient For Every Man's Need - Exodus 16:17-18 - This reminds us that Jesus is the all-sufficient Savior. He meets the need of man's soul. Some go deep in the Christian life, others get in but chose to play around the edges, but wherever you find yourself, as long as it is in Jesus, you will find that He is sufficient to save your soul, (Rom 12:9).

7. It Was Sweet To The Taste - Exodus 16:31 - Those who partook of the Manna found it sweet and satisfying. By the same token, all those who receive Jesus as their Savior find Him to be sweet to the soul and satisfying to the life. That is why we are encouraged by David to "taste and see that the Lord is good." (Psalm 34:8).

8. It Was To Be Kept And Passed On To Others - Exodus 16:32 - Jesus is the same way, He is to be shared with those who cross our path.

9. There is more that could be said about The Manna, but that is enough to let us see that it is an excellent type of the Lord Jesus.

Just as He did for Israel, God has provided us with everything we need for good spiritual health and perfect satisfaction. Jesus, and Jesus alone, can save and satisfy the soul the soul, Acts 4:12.

TODAY’S HYMN!
“Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah: By William Williams (1745)

Guide me, O thou great Jehovah, pilgrim through this barren land. I am weak, but thou art mighty; hold me with thy powerful hand. Bread of heaven, bread of heaven, feed me till I want no more; feed me till I want no more.

2. Open now the crystal fountain, whence the healing stream doth flow; let the fire and cloudy pillar lead me all my journey through. Strong deliverer, strong deliverer, be thou still my strength and shield; be thou still my strength and shield.

3. When I tread the verge of Jordan, bid my anxious fears subside; death of death and hell's destruction, land me safe on Canaan's side. Songs of praises, songs of praises, I will ever give to thee; I will ever give to thee.

THIS IS MY PRAYER, Wed, 7/4/2012

Wednesday, July 04, 2012

Holy Father, Merciful God, we pray we do not grieve You in Your heart by the way we live our life, for from ages of old to people today, sinful ways run rampantly. Help us to perceive that immortality destroys the soul of humanity. We are tempted daily to go with the flow of the world, to do whatever we can get away with….heaven forbid! Show us Lord how to be GIANTS of FAITH and RIGHTEOUSNESS. Grant us the boldness to witness to others Your Word and the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Enable us to conquer every foe with our heads in heaven and our feet on the ground. May the strength of Christ create giants in us. This we pray and ask in Jesus’ precious name and blood. Amen!
Vic.

Oh that our faith were that to perform miracles or move mountains. Instead we forget the mighty power of the God we serve and trust in the arm of flesh. I'm sure there are many more blessings that our God desires to bestow upon us if we would just ask Him in faith believing. Thank you Vic for this powerful prayer! Have a blessed holiday!

MOSES, FOLLOWING IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF FAITH, 7/4/2012

Exodus 16:1-7, 14-15; Numbers 11:1-9
ARE YOU SATISFIED WITH GOD’S GIFT, Lesson 11a

Do you know what the most despised gift that is given during the Christmas season is? Is it a new tie? No! Is it a new pair of bedroom slippers? No! Is it a new hand-knitted sweater? No! What is it? It is fruitcake! Lots of people give those nasty things to lots of other people who hate them. They hide them in their closets, use them to scotch their cars tires, use them as doorstops, save them up and use them to brick their houses, throw them at stray dogs, or best of all, the mean one re-wrap them and give them to some other poor, unsuspecting person. So their Christmas can be ruined too!

But, when someone gives you a fruitcake, you take it don’t you? You even say, “Thank you!” I hope you ask for forgiveness! We accept it graciously, and even though we may not like fruitcake, we are thankful for the expression of love from the giver. That is what grateful people do, even with a gift they do not like.

But, have you ever been around someone who received a gift from someone else and rudely rejected it out of hand? I have seen that happen and it is a hurtful thing to watch. It breaks the giver’s heart! It is amazing the people can be so cruel, but they can!

The passage in Numbers 11 shows the people of Israel to be ungrateful for the generous gift of God. They reject Him and His gift! It is a sad tale of pride, arrogance and foolishness. Yet, I want to look into it today, because I fear that there may be people who have and are rejecting God and the gracious gift of salvation.

I want to take these passages and show you a people who were not satisfied to receive the gift of God. I want you to see what happened to them and what it means for us today. Let’s think for a while about this question: “Are You Satisfied With God’s Gift“?

Ex. 16:2-3 THEY ENCOUNTERED A GRAVE DILEMMA

As the children of Israel journey toward Canaan, they meet with a legitimate need. They needed food! Mankind has three basic physical needs. He needs food, water and shelter. These people had shelter, but they lacked water and food. Over two million people need to eat and drink. This was no small problem, for they were pilgrims, hence they could not raise crops. Their livestock could never have reproduced at a rate sufficient to sustain them. They were journeying in a desert environment, so water would have been a constant problem for them. They were helpless and the future, at least to them, appeared hopeless! They simply could not help themselves! They needed divine intervention to be able to remain alive. They could not save themselves! They had a legitimate need, but they tried to meet it in an illegitimate fashion. Instead of trusting God, they murmured and complained against Moses and Aaron.

In this setting, the children of Israel are a good picture of lost humanity. As lost people live their day-to-day lives, they have needs. In our country, most people can take care of the basic needs of life for themselves. Most folks can provide themselves with food, water and shelter. Of course, I know that God is behind them being able to do all of that.

However, they have other needs that they can never meet on their own! Food, water and shelter may get you through this life, but they cannot help you in the afterlife! Lost people need spiritual bread and spiritual water. They need a spiritual shelter for their souls and they, out of their own resources, can never provide what they need.

Just like the children of Israel, lost people seek to meet the legitimate needs of their soul through illegitimate means. People try to scratch the itch within their soul by moving deeper into sin. They try to fill the void in their hearts with money, good times, friends, sex, drugs, drink and many other things that can never satisfy. What they all need is divine intervention! They need the scales removed from their eyes, (2 Cor. 4:4)! They need the quickening power of the Spirit to operate within their hearts, (Eph. 2:1). They need the provisions that only God can provide!

TODAY’S HYMN!
“Satisfied With Jesus” By B. B. McKinney

I am satisfied with Jesus,
He has done so much for me:
He has suffered to redeem me,
He has died to set me free.

Chorus
I am satisfied, I am satisfied,
I am satisfied with Jesus,
But the question comes to me,
As I think of Calvary,
Is my Master satisfied with me?

He is with me in my trials,
Best of friends of all is He;
I can always count on Jesus,
Can He always count on me?
Chorus:

I can hear the voice of Jesus,
Calling out so pleadingly,
“Go and win the lost and straying;”
Is He satisfied with me?
Chorus:

When my work on earth is ended,
And I cross the mystic sea,
Oh, that I could hear Him saying,
“I am satisfied with thee.”
Chorus:

Thank you for your message, Vic. I can relate to this message. However, if you receive a fruitcake, send it my way. I love fruitcake. I understand your meaning and I know what it's like. I am 100% satisfied with God's love and his guidance in my life. I hate to see where I would be if His guidance wasen't there for me.
"The Lord and I make a perfect team. I know where I've been and He knows where I'm going." Afterall, he is guiding my footsteps.
Thank you again Vic. I look forward to your awesome messages.

THIS IS MY PRAYER, Tue, 7/3/2012

Tuesday, July 03, 2012

Father of Love, God of Hope, help us to consider how we may spur one another on towards love and good deeds. We pray that our love may abound because we are receiving the abundance of Your Love and Forgiveness. Our hearts overflow with joy and gladness. We know that Love defines You our God. Love is a transforming quality we all seek and need. Love may be slow to work but it is the only thing that does work. To be able to love, we must first receive it from You through our Lord Jesus Christ. The power of Your Love does change everyone of us to Your praise and glory. We Thank You Father! We Thank You Jesus! We Thank You Holy Spirit! This we pray in Jesus’ Holy name. Amen!
Vic.

Romans 5:5 says that the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. We have the love of God in our hearts; what we do with it is our choice. We can either dam it up and hold it back from flowing to others or we can release it to all around us. I pray that we will let it flow freely from our hearts to others.

Thank you, Vic! You're a constant example of letting the love of God flow through you to touch the hearts of those around you.

MOSES, FOLLOWING IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF FAITH, Jul 3, 2012

Exodus 15:22-27
LESSONS LEARNED AT LIFE'S BITTER POOLS, Lesson 10c

THEY LEARNED SOME LESSONS ABOUT THE LORD

He Is Aware Of Our Needs - God knew what they would face at Marah. He, Himself had planned their journey. He knew about their need before they did! Nothing in your life takes God by surprise! He is already in tomorrow and He knows what you will face when you get there, “(Matt. 6:32). He knows of that sickness you have yet to develop. He knows of your grief while the one you are grieving still lives. He knows about that bill that has yet to be mailed. I am glad I serve a God who knows what I need before I ever need it. He is aware!

He Is Able To Meet Our Need - Moses was commanded to cast a tree into the waters and, when he did, they were made sweet. God, in His wisdom, had already prepared that tree for the meeting of their need. When they arrived, He was ready. He manifested His power an they got what they needed from the Lord. He is able to meet our need as well! When man was placed on this earth, he had no needs. God placed a perfect man into a perfect world. There, in the garden, Adam had everything he could possibly need. Yet, when man sinned, he became a needy creature. Not only did he need salvation, he also needed the very basic essentials of life itself. When Jesus came and died on Calvary, He repaired everything Adam had destroyed.

Through His death on that tree, He was able to make the bitter waters of life sweet again! Through His death on the cross, we find everything we need to have our needs met. When we are in a right relationship with God, through the shed blood of Jesus, we are in a position to have every need of life met by His power. Through the cross of Christ, the bitter waters of life are made sweet again! Through the cross, God is able to meet our need. Not only of salvation, but in every area of life. The cross unlocks His power in our lives. God is abundantly able to meet any need you face as you go through the bitter times of your life - (Phil. 4:19; Eph. 3:20; Psa. 50:10-15).

He Has Already Provided For Our Need - Years before Israel arrived at Marah, God caused a seed to germinate in the very place where they would need it. He looked ahead and prepared a way before a way was ever needed. He does the same for us! Did you ever realize that your need, as frightening as it may be, is only the evidence of God's supply in waiting? (Phil. 4:19) You will never face a need in life that God hasn't already met! If that ever sinks in, it will change our lives forever. It will totally destroy worry, doubt and fear. It will liberate us from selfish interests and give us peace about all of life!

Conc: At Marah, God revealed Himself to Israel as "Jehovah-Rapha", or "The Lord Your Healer." If Israel had never faced this bitter time, they would have never known this aspect of God's character. Just as Job would have never known that God could restore him unless he first lost everything. Just as Lazarus would not have know the joy of life, if he hadn't died. Mary and Martha would not have known that Jesus was the "Resurrection and the Life" unless they had first known grief. What I am saying is that the Lord uses the bitter episodes of life to reveal himself more fully to His children.

When we stand at the bitter waters of our Marah's, and we will, God help us to know that He is on His throne and that He is in control. God help us to look for His hand and His waiting provision. If you are like me, these are lessons which need to be taken to heart today. If you are struggling today, I beg you to bring it to Jesus. When you have taken the witches brew in your life, with all of it's good and bad, and bring it to the cross, it all straightens out! He can make sense of any mess. The key is learning not to kick, but to rest in His power and to allow Him to have His way in your life. Is there a need that needs to be brought to the cross today? If so, then now is the time!

TODAY’S HYMN!
“I Stand In Awe” By Mark Alrogge (1987)

You are beautiful beyond description
Too marvelous for words
Too wonderful for comprehension
Like nothing ever seen or heard
Who can grasp Your infinite wisdom?
Who can fathom the depth of Your love?
You are beautiful beyond description
Majesty enthroned above

Chorus:
And I stand, I stand in awe of You
I stand, I stand in awe of You
Holy God to whom all praise is due
I stand in awe of You
