What I've Learned

Thursday, April 17, 2014

In this journey I've learned several things;

1. Weight loss is not a perfect calories in minus calories out equation.
2. Food is not the enemy.
3. What works for one person doesn't necessarily work for another.
4. Healthy eating and weight loss is a life style not a program.
5. There is strength in support.
6. If you fail to plan, plan to fail.
7. The scale is not the final verdict!

Amen!! Agree with all of them. The difficult part is that it takes a lot of sweat and hard work to arrive at this conclusion.

Well said!! emoticon

Elementary My Dear Low Carber

Wednesday, April 16, 2014

Okay, maybe this is not groundbreaking, but I've discovered a way to help myself out. Being in the car too long and running errands is a challenging time for me. Plus, who needs to spend extra money? I use EAS Carbcontrol shakes for snacks and pick me ups at home. So, I decided to pack a few in a lunch bag, put them in the trunk, and when I need them, stop at a restaurant and get a cup of ice to go, and enjoy. Simple, I know, but everything that I can do to help myself stay on track, I got to do. In the past, I have been too easily sidetracked while out and about. Hooray for me!

That's great that you've discovered a way to stay on plan when life gets hectic.
Have you tried the Atkins™ shakes? If you check the ingredients on the EAS, it's soy-based. I try to avoid soy at every opportunity. Atkins™ is whey-based, I believe.
Either way - congrats for finding a solution!

I do that myself, it's a handy way to have a meal without having to go into a restaurant. When I go to the outlet mall (which isn't too often anymore) I'll put one in my purse, then stop for ice, sit outside (it's an open outdoor mall, but mostly covered) and enjoy my meal. I keep at least one in my car trunk all of the time - no excuses!! emoticon

I'm Not Dieting!!! LOL

Tuesday, April 15, 2014

We call it eating sensibly, eating everyday foods, and not depriving ourselves, etc. So why am I eating celery stalks and drinking chicken broth for my snack? I guess old habits die hard!

I agree with Woubbie, celery and broth are a great base for a snack. I like to dip my celery in ranch, and I'm good with straight broth.

I've found that habits, both good and bad, are very hard to break. Especially when we learn the behavior from our mother/father. My mom is a professional dieter, so many of my dieting habits I learned from her. One of those things is that you have to deprive yourself in order to lose weight. I'm slowly, very slowly, learning that isn't the way it has to be.

If it were me I'd slap some whipped cream cheese on the celery and throw some spinach and bacon into the chicken broth and call it a GREAT snack! Low carb, moderate protein, high fat, low hunger, high satiety!

Great Party!

Monday, April 14, 2014

Well, my daughter's party was a great success! Many friends and family attended. Unfortunately, I did not stay on my plan! How could I? There was wings, meatballs, pitas, spinach pies, ribs, guacamole, hummus, tortilla chips, spinach dip, fruit bowls, vegetable trays, gourmet chocolate, cupcakes, marble cake, gourmet cheesecakes, chicken strips, mini quiches, pretzels, nuts, sparkling juice, punch, and I can't even remember all. My family really all pitched in, even the kids! They sang "Let It Go" and danced to "Happy". She had many gifts and well wishes! She looked very happy. I'm glad that I went against my normal "stay out of it" behavior! Thank everyone for encouraging me to follow my intuition! I'm just sorry, that I'm not camera/computer savvy, or I would've posted pictures. Well, back to Zumba and my good eating plan.

Great news! I'm glad it all worked out after all!

As to your rhetorical question, "How Could I?", there are plenty of answers! Life is full of "special celebrations", and if you go off plan every time one comes up (*cough*all of December *cough*) you end up having to start over, lol! You can:

~ eat dinner before the event
~ pick three nibbles that you're allowed
~ focus on the food that's allowed on your plan (Of your list you could have gotten away with wings, meatballs, spinach pies minus the crust, ribs minus a bit of the sauce, guacamole, hummus, spinach dip, vegetable trays, mini quiches minus the crust, and nuts. That's still a lot of food!)

I'm not trying to rain on your parade here, just throwing out some ideas for next time!
