My Rant on Reality TV

Monday, March 10, 2014

Is it me, or is television absolutely absurd these days? Now, I understand how reality TV came about. The writers were on strike and networks had to fill the time. Turns out, reality shows are cheaper, and the TV audiences loved them! :( I really don't see why! Now a few of them are inspiring and educational, but most are just pure trash! My daughter says it's the "train wreck" syndrome, one can't help looking. Another explanation is people feel better about themselves when they see others living so much worse off.

When I want drama, I'll watch a scripted show, thank you very much. At least I know it's not real. I can do without all the farting, lying, cheating, back stabbing, hair pulling, cussing, drinking, mayhem etc., etc! I'd rather think on things that are lovely, honest, pure and have a good report. What about you?

i do get a little bit of "train wreck" syndrome, No mater how terrible i feel, that stuff always makes me feel like a genious. although i now turn off the tv. my dh wants me to watch some shows with him but i often get to the point whre i need to walk out of the room. i would rather do anyhing other that watch that garbage. if it were not for high swpeed cable i would not even have cable

There are a few shows that i do find funny, and encouraging so i will watch them, but most of the time i prefer to watch old shows or movies.

It's great to see that I'm not alone! I watch what I want to watch then I turn it off. It's easy to get hooked on the internet, too. I just do what I need to do and walk away.
( I even stopped checking to see if my steps registered on my Spark Tracker! I just walk and I get what I get LOL)

I can watch TV and go online on my "phablet" i.e. cell phone and I don't even know how to do that! I just got it because they sucked me in!

There are many more "Boob tubes" now than when we were younger!

Let's all go to the library! emoticon

No reality TV shows are real. They are all scripted and they are worse than soap operas. I noticed that almost all soap operas are gone, probably because people think that reality TV is the same.

TV in general sort of irritates me. I don't understand why it's necessary to have incessant background noise - everywhere! in public places, in your home, in medical offices... there's just no relief.

I do like PBS and science channels. If I do watch "network TV" it's crime or medical shows. I used to like the "real" ER and other sorts... but even those are scripted and not truly "real".

The ones labeled "real" now are anything BUT. I read a disappointing but not unexpected commentary on how conflicts with others on such shows are planned just for effect. I suppose it works - people watch the things.

Is it better to sit here in front of the computer all day? I don't know. I at least have the opportunity to learn and not just fill my mind with fluff. I *could*, if I wanted. But I'd rather spend my limited time on things more valuable than entertainment.
Just my 2

I like certain reality shows like Survivor. I love seeing how folks outwit each other and how some get it right while others dont manage. I also love Bear Grylls...his knowledge of the wilds is so amazing (not that I plan on getting lost in the jungle) but still very interesting.
But I dont enjoy Big Brother and junk like that.

I so understand what you are saying. I think they need to be taken off of television. Some people would be lost without them. Not me.

Anybody Sleepy?

Sunday, March 09, 2014

I thought I would be too sleepy this morning, so I decided to go to the Saturday worship service instead. Does anyone beside me feel kind of jerked around with this Daylight Savings Time thing? I mean the sun comes up when it comes up, and goes down when it goes down, right? What should politics and economics have to do with it? Oh well, the good thing is, I will go to bed at a decent hour tonight! Oh wait, it will be the same time to my body! LOL!

Three weeks. That's how long it will take me to adjust to waking up at what is, essentially, the middle of the night: 4:45 am. Oh sure, you can pretend that it's really 5:45, but it's really not. I absolutely HATE that I now have to slog through another month and a half before I can wake up AT DAWN. Grrrrrr...

Yes, I feel the same way, I am so tired today. This time change really does mess with us. I have to go to work at 5 and I don't have any motivation. Read a lot of blogs today who have the same sentiments.

Take care!

A "New" Strategy

Saturday, March 08, 2014

I am the queen of simplicity and the queen of efficiency, so I have decided to boil down my diet success strategies into one. I will no longer analyze, "philosophize", or go over and over my supposed transgression. I no longer think it matters why I got off track. It doesn't matter if I am sick, ravenous, greedy, tired, overbooked, craving, unprepared, undisciplined, or whatever, I will simply employ this one strategy, and I think it will work every time, all I have to do is use it right away! I can't take credit for it, all nutritionally successful people do it, I just have to phrase in a way that a law and order perfectionist such as myself (LOL!) can relate to. Would you like to hear it? Here it goes; "No matter how often and how many times you "fall off the wagon", GET BACK ON AND MOVE FORWARD! (Even if it is three steps forward and one step back) Simple enough right?, now I just need to do it. :)

I agree, lets not punch ourselves out over yesterday's doings....look forward to the next day and just do your best. The only time we fail when we fall down is when we don't get back up. Keep keeping on, sista!

You are so right. We only have the power to make choices for the present and future.

We can't choose to make things differently in the past unless we have a time machine. The past is over.

Isn't that always the way?

Friday, March 07, 2014

Like I wrote before, I went grocery shopping and bought everything I needed. I bought chicken parts, turkey, fish, ground turkey, pork chops, cubed steaks, roast, spinach, turnip greens, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, green beans, brussels sprouts, various salad mixes, you name it. I cooked almost everything and made up lots of my own "lean cuisines"and froze them. I even portioned out and bagged up my snacks and protein bars. When it came time to eat, wouldn't you know, I didn't want any of it! So, I went to Subway, shame on me! LOL!

  ALIIDA,

Hope your weekend is going great. You know, I have to gear myself up to do this typing. ( I don't use my thumbs at all). I was able to heat up some green beans and pork chops, so my preparation came in handy after all!

Now you have so much good stuff prepared. That's a great job!

I am going to try and cook in bulk this coming up week. I am trying to avoid lean cuisines and I am going to try and cook soups in the crock pot at night and then have them for a couple days. Next week is low fat ham and potatoe and split pea soup for lunch.

LOL A crisis of intent! I can relate.

Good job on your grocery excursion though - all that stuff sounds delectable. I cook just like you did here: everything at once and then portion it out. I love that.

I've got a list going for tomorrow, and we're going to start at the flea/farmers' market! I can't wait. I barely can get out of the produce aisles! hehe It's okay... I putz around vegging while the DH can go off and peruse the "guy-places". I really don't want to spend another hour cooling my heels while he talks to the guy selling RC helicopters again, anyhow!

It's good to be able to finally get to your blogs! I'm so glad you worked out whatever glitch was happening!

Ready for the week!

Thursday, March 06, 2014

Went grocery shopping, cooked all the food, separated, portioned it out, and put them into meal containers and froze them! Put protein bars into snack baggies, and put them into the bread box. Separated everything, yogurt, berries, etc. into little cups to grab and go. I feel ready! No excuses
Woo-hoo!
