Day 4 - My arms are killing me! :D

So, I woke up early and hit the gym. I tried a new cardio machine today...kind of looks like a pair of skis. I did 10 minutes of that and then headed downstairs to the weights. I started with 5lbs free weights. Then worked to the deltoid machine and then to the chest machine. I kept wanting to try this and that but my trainer said that you should never do a full body workout in one workout so I just focused on my arms and shoulders today. I also kept remembering what my trainer had told me, "You should always have a plan when you come into the gym." Well, I kind of followed that....I had a plan that I would try a new cardio machine and that I would work on my arms today but I know that he meant the specifics. I'm still a beginner to the gym so I don't know what the machines are called or what they do. I try to follow the pictures as close as possible though. I don't know what reps are either. Last my past post stated, my first meeting with a trainer was more of an assessment. Tuesday at 5am is when the REAL stuff starts and hopefully I'll gain a better understanding of everything. I'm nervous and beginning to feel my motivation about hiring a trainer go down BUT walking in the door is the hardest part for me so I think I can manage that. I've also been trying to eat more healthy. I've just decided to cut out french fries from my diet. If I do stop to eat fast food, I'll get a salad or chicken. I also want to cut ice cream out of my diet. :( ugh! It make me sad to type that. Those are the two foods that I crave the most. I also crave Root Beer and Starbucks ALL THE TIME but I don't think I can cut those out just yet. Hopefully my trainer will give me a better idea of what I need for my nutritional goals. With Starbucks, I don't drink coffee so I have is a tall pumpkin steamer or a tall soy green tea frapp. no whip. I also have with one of those drinks, a lemon loaf or pumpkin scone. Yummm! I can't stay away from those yet but I'm hoping my trainer will say that those are okay to eat. ;) Well, here are my daily goals: 1. No french fried 2 no ice cream 3. drink at least 8 cups of water 4. be IN BED by 9pm! Have a great Sunday everyone! Let's do this!

Today is actually Day4 but I didn't blog yesterday....I know bad me! I didn't have any motivation yesterday. I didn't even workout. :( I was busy yesterday morning and the mornings are the only time of day that I have any energy it seems. I was pretty disappointed in myself because of not working out and then feeling guilty for not blogging too (which is one of my goals, to blog everyday). I did however drink 8 cups of water yesterday which I haven't done in a while. So I was happy about that. I also accomplished some things around the house which I've been neglecting so that's good. I kept telling myself that it was my day off and that I would work even harder, tomorrow (today). Sorry readers, this post seems like such a downer. On to the next post...Day 4! Let's do this!


Day 2 - Sore!

I woke up at 6am this morning (after hitting the snooze button a few times). I got out of bed and was surprised to feel how sore I am! Whew! My arms are killing me BUT it feels good! I washed my face, brushed my teeth, put my hair in a ponytail and headed out the door. When I got to the gym, I stared my 10 min. of cardio on the elliptical. It went by really fast because I watched the news. Then, I made my way to the women's workout area. I started on the machine where you sit and open and close your legs (no idea of what it's called). I worked my inner thighs for 10 minutes. That was tough but I didn't feel intimidated because I wasn't surrounded by a bunch of men like yesterday when working with my trainer. After my inner thigh workout, I worked on the tops of my thighs (no idea what this machine is called either) for 5 minutes. I woke up late this morning so I only worked out for a total of 25 min. I guess it's better than nothing though, right? I'm starting to feel the soreness in my thighs now which is good. :) I'll actually be purchasing my protein powder during my break. I'm going to check out GNC and hopefully I'll find something good. I hope the employees are knowledgeable! I had about a cup of water today already. One of my short term goals, to drink at least 8 oz. a day. My next blog, I'll post about my experience at GNC and let you all know what protein powder I chose. So my goals: 1. Drink at least 8 oz. of water 2. Purchase my protein powder 3. Working out 30 min. each day (I guess I'll have to make up for that 5 min I was short this morning) 4. Continue writing my blog everyday to stay focused and a way to keep track of my goals. (I'm more of a visual person). If I don't post again today about my experience at GNC, I'll post it in Day 3. Day 1 - "Let's do this!"

As of today, I have finally become serious about becoming healthier. I joined a gym about a 2 weeks ago and have gone 4 times since I joined. One night, for some reason, I was unable to sleep. I felt anxious. I had so many things running through my mind (work, my sister's pregnancy, a job that I applied for, and just random things). I suddenly got the urge to go swimming. I'm a Pisces and so I love water. Mind you, I haven't swam laps in years. So, in the morning at 6am, I drove to Walmart and bought a swim cap and goggles. (Crazy right?!) I then drove to a gym when I knew they had a pool and purchased a day pass. I swam for a good hour, taking breaks here and there. I wanted to join the gym then but it was so early in the morning that the recruitment team wasn't there yet and didn't want to wait around so I left after my swim. Probably about 5 days later, I made an appointment with the gym to join. I was then scheduled for orientation a week later. Well, today was my orientation and it was great. I learned a lot! Now in high school, I was very active. Basketball, track, and tennis were my sports. My junior year in high school, I stopped everything. Since then, I gained 50lbs! When I woke up that morning, I didn't have weight loss in my mind. I just had the urge to swim...I felt like my body needed it. Now, fast-forward to today...during the orientation, I learned that weight lifting is crucial in reaching weight loss goals. I always thought that cardio was the most important. Anyway, when I walked in, I had in my mind that the orientation consisted of a walk through of the gym and some equipment. I was DEAD WRONG. The trainer assessed probably everything about me. He asked what my fitness goals were and I said, "just to swim." He said, "what else?" I said, "I don't know." He then told me that people who join a gym and don't have a plan or fitness goals usually cancel their membership in a matter of months. He then went through some health risks associated with weight gain. Ex: Diabetes, Cancer, Stroke, & Heart Disease. My family has a history with all of these and that's when it hit me, I NEED TO GET MY BUTT INTO SHAPE! From that moment on, my attitude about my fitness changed. I ended up hiring a trainer to meet with once a week at my gym. My first appt. is next Tuesday. I can't wait but I'm also a little nervous! I just have to keep my motivation and say to myself, "LET'S DO THIS!" Also during my orientation, the trainer had me do 10 minutes of cardio on a stair stepper and then about 15 minutes of weights. Boy am I sore tonight! BUT it does feel good to have this sore feeling back after not having it for years. My main goals for this week are: 1. Work out at least 30 minutes 4 times a week. (Today will be Day 1). 2. Buy protein powder as recommended by the trainer today. 3. Drink at least 8 oz. of water a day. 4. Write a blog everyday about my new journey. Well, that's it for now.     Those are great goals and will help you hit that finish line. Just take it slow and change things permanently and you will see the results you want. Lots of luck and can't wait to hear about Day 2.
