I'm loving Sparks.

I'm so glad I came back to Sparks. Was here some time ago, then left when I was getting diagnosed with so many things. It just brought me down, and I was depressed, and wondered why try, as I'm not going to get anywhere with all this.
Well I came back and read a lot of what people had to say about how they were doing and the changes they made. Then I did a lot of thinking about it all. I figured that if I continue to do nothing and stay in this rut, what would be the ending results? Then I thought about my saying, that God gave me a gift, the gift of CHOICE, and I just had to learn how to use this gift in a way that would be beneficial to me, in a way that would do me well, and in a way that God would want me to use this special gift. So now I am using this gift of CHOICE, and CHOOSING to use it in every way that would really do me good for my health and my future. And what a wonderful diffence it's making in my life. It just keeps amazing me. Sure, there will be hurdles all the way, but it's how I CHOOSE to overcome each one, with God's help. And I noticed that each time I ask Him for His help, He really does help me find my ways. No matter what journey we are on in life, there will always be hurdles and bumps. We just have to learn how to climb over them and continue on our journey. And to be proud of each one we climb over. After all, it's part of life. And Sparks and all these wonderful people, have been such a wonderul help and resource to me. Thank you all, and God Bless,

I bought the Fitbit One, a couple days ago. And I just love it. I can't believe how it keeps track of my sleep patterns, and how many times I wake up. As I have sleep Apnea. But it's interesting to watch each morning. And how it keeps track of everything I do, and it makes me just want to do a little more. I have it on my hip in the day, and on my wrist at night. I call it my "Little Buddy". It's just so encouraging and it just motivates me more and more. I'm so pleased that I looked into it, when someone told me about it. What a great little invention.

    Too funny, I call mine my little buddy too! I am somewhat addicted to watching the numbers grow on my fitbit. I must say at least they are numbers I have complete control over, unlike the numbers on my scale! Enjoy your little buddy!!!

I'm feeling uplifted, with all I've been reading and trying to learn. There's so much that I have to learn. I need to learn a lot about diabetes, and the foods, and how much. I can't go to a diabetes clinic, as I live too far, and I'm unable to get there. And I do want so much to learn, for my health. I can't afford to be buying books, as well as my sight is going. Don't know when they will do the cataracts. Seeing doctor on the 23rd. I have to really strain my one eye, to read or write anything. The other eye, which was my better eye, only sees fog. I never realized that when your eyes are not seeing well, it really messes up with thoughts and memory. Go figure.
I'm so glad that I'm with Sparks.

    Dee --- I do believe (from everything I have "heard" here at SP) that the diabetic challenge is a very helpful one to engage in.

Do you have a library near your home? If so, you might wish to check there for large print books (or better, yet, books on CD), that will supply you with useful information.

Do you have family or church family nearby? If so, maybe someone from one of those groups would be willing to help you find (& read aloud for you & discuss with you) helpful materials on the Internet.

Also, I find enlarging the print on the Computer screen very helpful at times. I am sure that that is not a new thought for you --- however, if I am wrong, please do try it!

I wish you every success in coping with the health concerns you are faced with.

When I joined Spark People I joined the 8 week diabetic challenge! I've had diabetes for 7 years, and have struggled off and on.

BUT, by following the program and learning and relearning some new habits, 3 weeks into the program - I AM OFF INSULIN!!!

The program is slow and a lot of info to start slow habits and retain information learned.

Forging Ahead.

I've been ill this past week. Thanks to my grandkids. They brought home a virus, and decided to share. Aren't they sweet? So today is the first day I can get back to my exercise program, as even yesterday, I ended up with a fever in the afternoon. Still coughing a lot, but I'm pushing ahead. I missed being to be on my program. I guess it's becoming a big part of me already. And I'm so pleased about that. But I will slowly forge on ahead and get better at it as time goes by. My goal and aim, is to try to lose 10 lbs., between now and the end of December, at one lb. a week.

Starting with Steps.

Started with steps on Wed Sept. 23/09. It came with a DVD, and a CD for when walking outside. My prolbem was that I can't walk when it's too hot, or humid, or snow or ice. And I can't afford a treadmill, and don't have a place to put it, even if I had one.
So I was looking for something that I could do year round, and could be done indoors. I thought about the WII Fit, but I couldn't get over how much it would have cost, and not sure if it was something I could do. So the steps really has come in handy. I'm loving it, and progressing a bit each week. And I can use this all year round, no matter what the weather.

    Hi Ima.
Thanks for the info. I have purchased a DVD set called."Walk at Home" By Leslie Sansone. So I've started that, but I only can do about 10 minutes of it at a time at the moment. And I know I will be able to increase the minutes as time goes by. I like this, and you're doing this with a group of people, so you feel you're exercising with others. Makes it more fun. I know this journey takes time. One day and one step at a time. Had to get away from Sparks for some time, as my sugars were out of control, and I was getting so worried. So I was able to get in with the Diabetic clinic, and now my sugars are in control since I started on insulin. They told me that sometimes as we get older, our bodies don't produce enough. As if I needed to be told that I'm getting older. LOL. So now that I've got the sugars under control, I've come back and starting all over again. So I'm so pleased to be able to be back.
I appreciate any info that I get from others, as it's encouraging, and I don't feel so alone on this journey. A whole new lifestyle, but also a whole new life for me. So looking forward to be able to meet my goals that I set for myself again.

    Oh, I see that you posted this some long time ago, Dee. Still, I thought I might suggest that you find videos walking in place (maybe there are some here at SP) on the Internet.

A gal gave me a DVD of such an exercise program --- she said that a family member had dropped an amazing amount of weight by simply doing that video in her home. I don't remember the exact amount of weight; however, I do know that it amazed me to hear just how much she had dropped in a six month period.
