My scale lies and I have the photos to prove it!

Thursday, October 31, 2013

My scale still hasn't caught on to the fact that I'm shrinking. Again it's been weeks since I've lost a single pound. I seem to be playing my own little game of the slowest loser. I'll admit I haven't been here much, and my eating habits haven't been perfect. I'm rocking the work outs though and I really think that's why my pant size keeps shrinking even if I only seem to be losing a pound a month.

Here's the end of July at owen's birthday- size 18, weight 197

This is in September- size 16, weight 196

And here's last weekend- size 14, weight 195
My husband was trying to get a photo of Owen swinging at the park and I ended up in the background of this one. It's the first time I've seen a photo of myself since losing another size. I'm glad I ended up in this photo, I've been a little down on myself for not doing super great with my food and having only lost 2 pounds since July, but I think I look pretty darn good in the photo! It looks like more then two pounds since the July photo, at least to me.

So I've decided my scale is a liar. Usually when I'm being serious about weight loss I weigh daily, every couple of days when I'm not doing as well. Now I'm thinking that I'm gonna not weigh for a month. So my November challenge to myself- go off how I feel and how my pants are fitting and just wait till December to see how I did for the month. Kinda scary putting away the scale for a month... but I'm gonna do it!

And last, since Owen wasn't smiling in the park photo, here's one of him looking super adorable. It has nothing to do with this blog- but it's so cute I had to share it :)

We must have the same scale!! :) You are looking great, and your size is more important than a number on a scale.

He's adorable! And you look great! Pants size is more reliable than the stupid scale anyway.

    Owen is a doll!
And you look great-
I'm sure you've seen those pics comparing a pound of fat with a pound of muscle-
you have lost a lot of fat while building a lot of muscle so the scale doesn't see the change but you- and all of us- can see it!
And, your metabolism is loving it.

Wow! The scale is definitely lying! You're looking great and the workouts are paying off. Sometimes I use a tape measure on the waist to track progress.

1/2 lb. = 5 inches? and the dinner hubby made

Wednesday, September 18, 2013

Last week I did great! Ate well, exercised like crazy, only lost a half pound, but I measured and last month I lost five inches of my waist!!! How does that even happen with only a half pound lost in the last six weeks? Must be building muscle? Well- I am A-Okay with losing only a half pound if it means five inches off my waist! (plus 1" off hips, 1" off upper arms, 1" off thigh, and 1/2" off calves!)

I was feeling good, super motivated... then Monday my motivation disappeared- I ate junk junk junk... Tuesday didn't start off much better. We'd had McDonalds for dinner Monday and honestly I was planning on just picking up Taco Bell for dinner Tuesday. Ya- motivation gone. Anyways, Mike must've sensed I was spiraling because after he asked what was for dinner and I said "nothing sounds good- I'm just gonna pick up tacos" so he volunteered to cook something...

Check out what he made! Grilled steak, steamed purple cabbage (from our garden), steamed summer squash (also from our garden), roasted and pureed acorn squash, and sautéed onions and mushrooms!
It was soooooo good! And it ended my short detour off the healthy road. Detours aren't the end of the road, they're just part of the journey. And maybe they make the journey a little slower, but who says it's a race?

Your Hubby is very in tune with you and your feelings. Great job setting up that detour for you. Stay on track and reach that goal, I know you can do it.

Mike sounds like a good guy to have around. Do you loan him out? (lol) It's great to have someone who'll catch you when you start to slide. Congrats on the inches! That's a fabulous NSV. Keep it up!

Body scans- 250 lbs. vs. 120 lbs.

Sunday, September 15, 2013

I saw this on the I *censored* Love Science Facebook page and thought it was super interesting. It's a body scan of a 250 pound woman vs. one of a 120 pound woman. Just looking at how the hip and ankle bones sit really blew my mind! Anyways- thought I'd share :)

    Eye-opening!
All day, I kept coming back to this and looking again.
I feel like #1 most days even though I don't weigh nearly that much.
Yuk.

Interesting! I think it looks like the scans are taken with the women lying down, being told to keep legs and arms very straight. This could explain the tilted joints and muscles of the heavier person compared to the skinny one. It would be interesting to see a similar scan of heavier and lighter built women standing upright..

found a workout solution

Tuesday, September 10, 2013

The last couple of days my eating has been so-so... not great but not horrible either. The good news to report is I finally figured out how I can get some cardio in on days I don't want to run- yay!
Okay, so since Owen was born I couldn't really do work out videos since every time I put one in and stated he would just scream. So I gave up on doing them awhile ago. When he was smaller I even tried renting some working out with baby videos where you hold your baby through the whole thing. They'd be fine if you baby liked it- mine did not. Plus you really don't feel like you're doing any cardio since you can only move so much while holding a baby safely. They seemed like they would be great for strength though, and if you did them over time your baby gets bigger and bigger so the weight you lift would get heavier. But they just didn't work for us no matter how many I tried.
My normal morning routine is to eat breakfast with Owen then get us both ready for the day. On days I run I take a piece of toast and a piece of fruit for Owen to eat his breakfast in the stroller then when we get home I put PBS Kids on the TV for him while I eat my breakfast.
It occurred to me yesterday that I can use that same method for doing videos too. I moved his high-chair out into the living room and now I can do videos while he eats! So yesterday I did a 20 minute Jillian Michaels workout and today I did 35 minutes of Zumba. I don't know if he'll ever let me do a full hour of any of them, but at least now I'm not so worried about what I'll do for workouts once the weather turns too cold for taking out the stroller. emoticon

awesome news and great thinking! Adjustments come with time for sure and this seems like a great plan for the both of you! You can work your way up to one hour I'm sure he'll be ok working up to that length also.

Great solution. Maybe when it does get cold, you can set him up with his favorite toys and once he is older crayons or paints. Sometimes so hard to keep a baby busy.

August report- 0 pounds lost, but down a size!

Thursday, September 05, 2013

In the month of August I lost exactly 0 pounds. I did mostly good with food, I'd say I had about 25 good days out of 31, not too bad for my first month getting serious here again. What I did better then expected with was getting back into running. At the beginning of the month was able to walk 4 miles, but could barely run 1. I ran 3-4 days a week and I'm back able to run 3 miles again! Okay- not nonstop, but I'm ready to start signing up for some 5ks this fall and winter!
Despite no loss on the scale I'm feeling good- really good. I feel like my face is starting to slim a bit, my chest has definitely shrunk- from a 42F to a 40DD (yay!), my rear feels smaller and a little less jiggly, and my clothes were starting to feel a bit loose. So even though the scale hasn't budged I decided to go shopping yesterday... I lost a size! I bought 3 shirts an a size L and a skirt in a size 14! My boxes full of pre-pregnancy sizes 12 and 10 don't seem so far away anymore!
I'll admit, I sure would like to see the number on the scale go down soon, but I'm thrilled the number on my pants has!

Congratulations on the change in size!

The scale is only one way to measure progress. I think a reduction in size can be even more rewarding. It may indicate you are holding on to more muscle WHICH IS EXCELLENT!
