Diagnosed Diabetic

Last Friday I went to the Dr, had a great visit, told her all about SparkPeople and she loves the idea and that it has been helping me. I was super excited to tell her. And even though it was my annual women's visit, my blood pressure was great!

The nurse called me today with the results of my lab work. Turns out I am diabetic. I'm still in the range that it can be controlled with diet and exercise. So I am already on the road to beating this. Until now I haven't been using the food tracker except to track my water. So I guess it's time to hit the ground running as far as tracking my food goes. I have changed my diet plan over to the Type 2 Diabetes plan. I like how it divides everything for the individual meals and snacks. That will really help me keep track. The nurse also told me that the carb range that SP gave me is a good range to work with. I had a bit of a panic attack after I got off the phone. But I know that with all the support I get here at SparkPeople I can do this.

I know there is a diabetic challenge and I am looking into joining it. I'm thinking I will finish up the Bootcamp challenge and practice tracking my food. Then join the Diabetic Challenge beginning May 1st.

Now for some GOOD NEWS! My cholesterol is ALOT better!! YAY!!

So, even tho I am still freaking out a little bit about being diagnose diabetic, I know that I am doing good. I know that I can do this, I'm definitely on the right path!

    You are right. Your fine, you know what to do and how to deal with this, And you can do this. Proper nutrition and exercise are things you have already introduced into your routine. This is very do-able.

    You can do this. You are already on the right track with Spark in the first place. Don't let it get you down. A diabetic diet is one of the best things you can be on anyway. Like someone else said it is very possible that you will be able to control this with diet and exercise.

  You can get the diabetes under control but it does require tracking, tracking, and tracking! I was diagnosed several years ago and have managed, with diet, to keep my A1C under the maximum allowed before being put on meds. The last Dr. visit he said that he considered me to have cured my diabetes. He used the word cured! He said that unless I gain weight or start showing symptoms he won't check my A1C again. Now to get the cholesterol down. It went up as I have lost weight, exercised and watched what I eat. I am telling you this because I know it can be done, it just takes tracking!!! Good luck!

    emoticonI know you've got this! Both my parents were diagnosed as diabetic 4 years ago and they controlled it with diet and exercise and unfortunately my dad ended up on insulin this year but his starting blood sugars where high 20's so it's not a huge shocker. The good news is with controlling it with diet and exercise is manageable and will only add to all the positive steps you're taking so far to meet your goals! emoticon

28-Day Bootcamp Workout Challenge - Day 4

Today I did Leslie Sansone's Walk at Home - The Big Burn 2 Miles of Intervals...WOOOOO! that was a workout!! there are 3 or 4 90 second segments of jogging. WOW! felt GREAT!!

Also did day 4 of the Bootcamp Challenge. this was the standing core workout, I like this one!

btw...my triceps are a little sore from yesterdays workout...I like it when I'm a little sore! =)

    emoticon I always hurt a little the next day until I get up and moving but it's always worth it and you get to enjoy it more and more knowing that you've pushed yourself! I'm glad you're doing so well! Keep up the hard work!

28-Day Bootcamp Workout Challenge - Day 3

so I did it a little different today...I started a Walk Away the Pounds 2 mile walk...at the 1 mile mark I did the bootcamp video...then finished the last mile.

most of the video was good. but I could not do the tricep dips. I TRIED, but my ass is just too heavy right now to hold up like that! I got back up on the chair and did tricep extensions instead.

I also couldn't do complete push-ups, I did the best I could and my arms are still burning!

28-Day Bootcamp Workout Challenge - Day 2

Day 2 workout is done. WOOOOO! Legs are sure gonna feel it tomorrow. I'm hoping this will get me into the habit of strength training. I seem to always put it off.

Did 2 mile Walk Away the Pounds for the 30 minutes of cardio...SWEATING! sure feels good though!

28-Day Bootcamp Workout Challenge - Day 1

OMG! that was INTENSE!!

I did modified jumping jack because the regular ones are too hard on my knees (I have arthritis). I also went back to the modified jumping jacks and some knee lifts during the hands on the floor bits at the end.

I may not have been able to go all out like Coach Nicole, but I feel great and I still ended up dripping in sweat! YAY!

    Since I have been exercising more I have made an extra effort to remember my asthma meds. If I wasn't taking them I probably would have passed out!

I didn't really work up a sweat, although I could hardly breathe. I get out of breath just walking up the stairs. That is one thing I am looking forward to changing as my fitness level get better.
