What's To Come

Monday, July 11, 2011

It truly feels like things are finally starting to come together.

Last week with all the hiking and such we did I logged 2768 calories burned. Not bad considering Tuesday and Wednesday I was pretty sore from Monday's hike. After Thursday's hike with the kids I haven't been sore at all. Today I started adding back my morning kettlebell workout. I haven't been eating a lot of crap and I've been trying to stay away from red meat. We eat way to much red meat, so I'm trying to get everyone eating more fish or meatless meals.

I'm starting to feel better - emotionally, physically, mentally. I did something on Saturday I never thought I would do. I did a tv interview! It will be aired tonight. Not sure if the interview if any of it will be used, but still I stood in front of a camera!!
I've been feeling good about how my clothes fit. I have no jeans right now, but my dress pants I've been wearing the most fit and look awesome on. I have 2 t-shirts I love even though they both are a tad big. I've been feeling so good, I even went and got my hair trimmed today. And if I can break 3000 calories burned I'll go in and get my hair coloured as a treat for the hard work.

Best of all, I'll be going back to school in September! I need a special government certification to work in nursing homes or hospitals and we've figured it out and I'll be able to pay one course at a time till I'm done -they give us 4 yrs to complete it. An once enrolled I can start work! I've very excited. Since starting this journey, I've been searching for the right job to study for and this one is it for me. I can see myself doing this till time to retire. I couldn't say that about any other job I've had.

Thunderstorm is moving in, better shut down the computers.

Great job on burning through the calories! I recently decided to try a vegetarian lifestyle and I am telling you, I feel so much more alert and happy. Kicking the meat and the garbage makes a big difference. Sounds like it's time for some clothes shopping. I love when I hit that point. Good luck in school! You will do great!

Getting Back To Nature

Wednesday, July 06, 2011

I made a promise to myself last week that I will get out as much as I can on the nice days this summer with or without the kids. So we started on Monday. DD was at Canada's Wonderland with friends so DS and I went for the first outing together. We went to a park that hubby and I use to go to with our oldest when he was little and we were active. We use to mountain bike these trails. I was walking these trails questioning how the heck did I do it - there's a lot of steep up hill climbing. I realized just how extremely fit I use to be.
We walked 15kms, took us 3 1/2 hours. I wanted to take DS to the "Lookout" . A long the way we stopped at the Viewing Platform.

And this is the view from the Lookout:

It was a great day, getting to spend time with DS. And he said he was impressed with how much mileage I did. He didn't expect it. Course I'm paying for it - my calves are so sore! But the pain now will be worth it later. No pain, no gain...right?? LOL

Last night we popped over to a local marsh for a walk. The trail is only 1.7km so I thought it would be good to have a leisurely walk to keep moving forward even though I was still sore from the day before. So we all went over.
This is DD and hubby checking out the view from the Lookout Tower:

It's not a place where the animals are use to seeing people so they hide, we made a game out of it to see how many critters the kids could spot. The only thing other than a turtle they spotted were these guys who were kind enough to move off the trail for us to pass:

Today is rest day for these legs! I'll do some housework and make some soap but that will be about it. Tomorrow we are heading back to the park we were at on Monday and checking out the lower trails. Friday we will check out another trail closer to home as I have to get ready for a weekend full of markets.

Time For Shoes...

Friday, July 01, 2011

Today we went shoe shopping. One of sports stores is closing and had a 40% off ticketed price sale happening. All the shoes are already marked down and then another 40% off - couldn't pass up seeing what they had. I needed new runners, my Asics 1140 have had it for working out in.
I came home with 2 pairs - a pair of Asics 1150 ($60. reg. $120) and a pair of Columbia trail shoes ($40. regular $90). Seeing as I'm going to be spending alot of time outside hiking I opted to get a shoe with some grip, especially for the price. Last thing I want is to be slipping and falling out on the trails. Hubby ended up getting a pair of Saucony runners ($48. reg. $145). He hasn't worn runners for about 14 yrs, he lives in work boots.
I'm going to head to another store in the city on Monday and see if I can find another pair of trail shoes that I liked but this store didn't have in my size. While they have them for this price hubby agreed I should get an extra pair.

Also an update on the Reebok Easy Tones. I've had them since April and I have noticed a difference. It's not a dramatic, everyone can see difference when I wear them. But my calves are tighter and when I wear heels then it is noticeable. My booty is firmer, has a ways to go but that will come with working out too. These differences have been while I haven't been to fully exercise since falling in Feb/March and injuring my tailbone. It's been mainly from just walking around the house and when I go out grocery shopping and such. I'm happy with the results, I have better balance and posture from wearing them and I'd probably get them again for the right price.

Today Is The Day

Wednesday, June 29, 2011

Today is the last day of school. Last night I was at my sister's. We were discussing where and what to do with the kids this year. We are considering getting DD a seasons pass to an amusement park. She has a friend that will be going almost weekly. DS is 14 and doesn't want to do much but hang with friends and go to the beach. I'm okay with that as long as he does spend some quality time with us.
I was thinking more along the lines of no real cost except gas/food and more exercise. We came up with a few places that aren't very far to drive, most are within 2 hours. One will be a few days if not weeks to fully see which equals A LOT of hiking. The others are more of a day excursion. So starting next week we will be out walking/hiking some trails. I'd like to start tomorrow but DD has a sleep over party tonight, DS has a party tonight also and he is having a party here tomorrow. They of course will be at the beach most of the day thankfully.
Not sure how often the kids will want to go with me but if they don't that's fine too. I enjoy my own company and a couple of places allow dogs on the trails.
Also the goal for the end of summer is to be walking to the beach and back after having a swim. It's about 3.92 miles (6.31 km) round trip. It doesn't sound that long, but I have biked it in the past and it was hard to make it home after going for even an hour swim. I know I can do it, I just have to work at it. For the first while, I will probably not really go out swimming but just enjoy watching the kids.

For the summer rainy days will be housework days. I don't sleep in, I'm always up by 6:30am anyway so I will be getting my workout and of course daily stuff done and out of the way so when the kids get up we can just get going.

This is the only goal I'm setting for the summer - to get out and move every nice day we have. By holding to it and continuing with my daily workout (kettle bell or Turbo Jam) before we head out I know the weight will take care of itself.

Sounds like a good plan. I like that you are keeping to your at home workouts and adding in the nice days swim, biking and or hiking the trails. Enjoy your day. emoticon

Quick Blog

Reason behind my update blurb today...

Last year my oldest entered an idol contest for the town he lives in, he came in second. This year he entered again.....HE WON!! He called us late last night and then apologized for waking us up but he was so excited. We were excited for him but also excited (yes I cried) that he called us right after the competition to let us know. For those that know the heart ache and tough love we've gone through this year with him it was very emotional for us.

Today is my other son's grade 8 graduation. He made honour roll! Picked up his tux (I don't get a tux for grade 8 but what ever) and the corsage is ready for pick up. So not only is he graduating he has his first date.

Hard to believe where the years have gone. Only 5 years left and we will be an empty nest. Our daughter graduates grade 8 next year.
