Strutin' my stuff!

Thursday, January 26, 2012

The last time I bought pants was in October. I struggled to zip a pair of size 24s, and figured that they'd probably stretch a bit. The store didn't have anything larger, so I had to go with those. I left feeling humiliated.

Today, I just zipped myself into a pair of size 18s. Oh, I'm glad it's sweater season, so my muffin-tastic middle isn't showing. But I can sit down in them, and I can breathe. Woohoo!

That is very inspiring. The really great thing is you can buy new things in the "cute clothes sizes."

Pedal to the Point

Wednesday, January 25, 2012

I've done it. I've committed to Pedal to the Point, a 150-mile bike ride to benefit Multiple Sclerosis research. Of course, the point of the ride is to raise funds, and as I have a good friend with MS it is important to me. But I am also glad of the goal of prepping for and completing this ride.

This is my personal page for the ride. Anyone interested in sponsoring me is certainly welcome to do so and will receive my gratitude! main.nationalmssociety.org/site/TR/B

How awesome you are doing this! My sister has MS and I have seen the effects it's had on her from temporary paralysis to Grand Mal seizures. She has to take shots every other day to keep the disease from progressing - which the shots are about $2,000/month! Guess what if you don't have insurance? No shots, disease progresses - it's awful. Currently she is doing 'good' at this point but it can be unpredictable.

I will stop by your page.

Even bad wasn't too bad

Monday, January 23, 2012

Only worked out twice last week, didn't record my eating. But I also didn't just let go and go crazy. And I weighed in this morning a pound and a half down. Now it's time to get the discipline back.

Momentum is a good thing for a few days. Then you have to get back and do it all over again.

Good for you! I didn't have a great weekend either and cheated a little. But was still very careful what I ate. I still had a loss, so I was excited too! emoticon

Progress

Friday, January 20, 2012

Didn't manage to work out once while the girls were here, though went museum walking a couple times. Woke up this morning at convention hotel. The first inclination was, "Meh, start again Monday." But I set that aside, pulled on my workout clothes, and hit the gym for half an hour of upper body ST and 35 minutes on the stationary bike. And I feel a billion times better about myself!

10 days of disruption

Tuesday, January 17, 2012

I was out of town this weekend, visiting friends. No chance to work out. Now my week is being thrown COMPLETELY off by my college-age daughter and her girlfriend being here. I'm thrilled to bits that they have come to visit, and we are having a wonderful time, but it is making life challenging. I was planning to work out this morning, but last night they decided to abandon the guest room in favor of the bed in the family room, where they could watch TV as they went to sleep. Which is fine, except that it's the room with all my exercise equipment. So no workout this morning. Plus we ate out last night.

I get thrown off when my routine is interrupted. They are here until Thursday, and then we are off to a convention through the weekend, so I'm pretty much off-kilter until next Monday. I am trying to focus on maintaining through this week, and not using it as an excuse to go off the rails. Nevertheless, I'm up a pound and a half. Tonight we are eating in, and though it's a steak night, I will keep my portion small and eat veggies, which I am making in abundance. It will be all restaurant eating from Thursday through Sunday morning. It's going to be tough.

These things can and do happen to us. Make the most of the time with your daughter and her friend. If you can't get to the equipment, go for a walk outside instead. Finding the work around can be daunting, but I have faith in you and the path you are on.

I'm in the same boat! With my grandma's passing there were lots of family get togethers and eating out. And I am going on vacation Thursday to next Tuesday so it will be rough! I feel like I was doing really well for so long. Figuring out how to deal with these interuptions from our good habits and recovering from them has to be part of the process!

I wish you the best with doing what you can in the meantime!

I have faith that you'll do great. I try to order everything vegetable-rich in restaurants, and remind myself that someone else gets to do the chopping and cleaning up after. Then it feels almost as luxurious as having some kind of really rich food.
