Obligation of Exercise? NAH! Motivation of exploration!

Well I'm going to have to call it; I need to find an exercise that works for me. I know the things I do love already. Walking namely. My god the walking I do would put Frodo to shame. I walk everywhere, partially because being a university student I can't afford a car, but mostly because I love smelling the fresh air, feeling the elements, seeing the faces, and moving about. However, in terms of 'getting fit" walking isn't really appropriate anymore for me. Those muscles are so toned since I've been walking since I was a child, and with me losing a decent number of lbs, it's not doing much besides adding personal joy and pleasure (so of course I still will!).

I love swimming as well. And in the summer I live next to a swimmable pond- it's now winter.. and I COULD go to the public pool, but I always feel sickly whenever I leave.

I like the concept of exercising at home. I've tried a few spark videos (I have a soft spot for the bollywood dance ones). I've tried p90x and Jillian michaels, and those seem to stick for about a week then get chucked aside. I'm a little embarrassed by this, I need to sort something out.

I think for now I may snoop around SparkPeople's videos a bit more.

    I know what you mean about using an exercise routine and then tossing it aside when you get tired of it. I have quite a collection of workout dvds. Got a new yoga dvd for Christmas and I love it because I can actually do it. So I have been using that and my treadmill throughout January. I know eventually I will get tired of that one and thought perhaps I will pull out the Wii fit again. It's been a while since I did that one. But I just like have the variety so that I can switch it up when ever I feel like it. I love my treadmill so that is always my go to when I don't feel like doing anything else and just want to get a workout in. I agree with Caya88 too. Just do some form of activity that makes you feel like you worked out. I don't have a sidewalk to shovel but I can sure work up a sweat just vacuuming, sweeping and mopping my floors.

I hope you find a workout that works for you.

    There are lots of free workouts on youtube. If you type in a search for workouts you will find tons of great sites. BeFit is one with workouts from Jullian Michaels, Deniese Austin, Tara the yoga instructor hand more. PlumTV on youtube has great workouts. Many places have free full length workouts. emoticon

  Hello my dear!

I have the same problem, but a good friend (also a chronic gym rat) recently pointed something out to me; it really doesn't matter what work out you do or how long you do it, as long as you do something. I will often play with my Wii, sometimes Wii Fit or a similar work out type of game, other times just doing those dodgy dancing games with my fella to see who looks more ridiculous doing them. Sometimes I dance (bollywood, bellydance or rumba) or do an actual workout DVD. Sometimes I jog, cycle or swim. I can go a week without doing anything, or do 3 hours of "exercise" in various forms in one day.

I would also recommend not just doing exercise but "being active." A good example of that is this morning, when I spent half an hour gingerly shoveling snow. Even though I was inhibited by my dodgy knee, I worked up on heck of a sweat!

The dreaded Plateau

Well, I've been hovering around 170 for about three weeks, I think it's about time I admit it to myself; I've plateaued. I lost 40lbs on just diet alone, and I really can't complain about that, but it's the exercising I always had a difficult time sticking to. I'll have to re-organize my diet to include foods to keep me energized for working out, and I'll have to start into an exercise routine. I think this moreso than anything else before may break me. Arg, so much frustration and disappointment

    I find I cannot (or maybe do not) exercise at home. I make it a daily routine to hit the gym by 9 a.m. and I make it usually 6 days a week. If I were to say I will exercise at home at 9 a.m. I would get busy doing something and just delay it. Walking with a buddy can be good advise - just make sure they are really motivated and won't leave you hanging - as that just becomes an excuse not to go either.

  I hate exercising too! It helps me to get a buddy to walk with. I've also enjoyed Coach Nicole's new exercise video. It's a nice work out but doesn't make me feel like a total klutz. I'm plateauing right now, too. I hate it. I may have to start eating at the lower range of my calorie limit (yikes!). I'm not looking forward to that. Hang in there! At least exercise makes you feel good!

  Exercise will definitely speed up your weight loss. Find an activity you like to do. It will become so enjoyable (I know, hard to believe) that you will miss it if you don't do it.
