Quick Update

Monday, February 18, 2013

Just a quick update to my blog on the Preparation before spine surgery

Feb 18 2:30pm Rockford Memorial Hospital for Dobutamine Stress Ecoh test

Hubby passed this test today. It was a good thing I contacted our insurance carrier this morning regarding pre-certification of the spine surgery scheduled for Feb 27 because nobody has initiated it even though they said they would.

That's all for now. Take care! emoticon

  Sadly, we really do have to assume that things ARE NOT taken care of and advocate for ourselves. I am glad that you were able to take care of this ahead of time.
I wish all of you the emoticon

Today is...

Sunday, February 17, 2013

... a very busy day for us. It is the seventh day of Chinese New Year (CNY) which is known as "Yan Yat." "Yan Yat" means everyone's birthday. In Malaysia, we have a special dish called "Yee Sang" during CNY and today is the day to have it. "Yee Sang" is a salad dish with raw fish in it. This dish is eaten with anticipation that the coming year will be joyous, in good health, good luck and prosperous. By the way, this is the year of the water snake.

Here I would like to share a link to another CNY song :

We had to run errands before we left for the sub-urbs of Chicago to have some Malaysian food like Nasi Lemak, Loh Shee Fun, Char Kway Teow and Hainamese Chicken Rice. I forgot to take pictures. After that, we went to Mitsuwa to get some groceries. We went back to Asian Noodle House to get Yong Tau Foo to go (Malay word for to go is bungkus.) Hubby got some White Castle to go as well.

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend! emoticon

    This is the first time I heard about Yan Yat. Usually, I linked CNY with Chap Goh Meh coz the stories that I heard is usually quite romantic, what with single ladies throw oranges into rivers and wish to meet someone :)

  emoticon for informing me of your customs. I find it VERY interesting to know how others differ, especially in their food habits. The closest we are to an area that offers the foods of different nationalities is about 45 miles away.

Preparation before spine surgery

Friday, February 15, 2013

The following is what hubby has to do before going for his spine surgery on Feb 27:

Feb 12 1:15pm Hubby's appointment with Dr Roh, neuro-surgeon at Rockford Spine Center - going over MRI results done on Jan 28 and what needs to be done;

Feb 15 3:00pm Rockford Memorial Hospital for testing, lab work, EKG;

Feb 19 10:00am Dr Glovsky, hubby's doctor, at Rockford Health Physicians for history and physical;

Feb 21 8:00am Dr Roh, neuro-surgeon at Rockford Spine Center for an appointment before surgery.

I thought that was it before the surgery but I guess not. We received another phone call last evening that hubby needs to schedule one more test, Dobutamine Stress Ecoh. My hubby and I are wondering is this really necessary as it would definitely increase the cost of this surgery. Would greatly appreciate any comments on this matter.

They will inform us of time of surgery on Feb 26. That is all for now.

Hope everyone have an enjoyable weekend. emoticon

    Just want to update everyone re the above.

Hubby went for his appointment today at Rockford Memorial Hospital. Initially, they wanted to do Lab work and EKG. After checking, the staff said to him that since the doctor ordered for the Dobutamine Stress Ecoh (DSE) test, he need not do the EKG. Patients has to pass the DSE test in order to go for the surgery. Today, he only did Lab and X-Ray.

Take care & have a great day/evening! emoticon

    My opinion is: It is the patients responsibility to question their medical professionals - regarding the necessity of all drugs, procedures, test they prescribe for the patient pertaining to the diagnosis they have given. It is also the patients responsibility to obtain second opinions on their diagnosis. And to verify with their insurance carrier what, if any, conditions must be met for complete coverage and what the expected out-of-pocket expense the patient will be responsible for paying.

Health Care is rather like any other purchase you make... It is your responsibility to insure that what you are purchasing is what you need, want, and think that it is. It is a rare occurrence when any business truly thinks more of its customer than of their own bottom line.

Do you think I am a pessimist? You are probably right if you said, "Yes".

  If it were me, I would call to find out EXACTLY what this test is and WHY it is being done. I have NOT heard of it before.
I wish you the very best......... emoticon

Good and not so good news

Wednesday, February 13, 2013

Good news is my daughter passed her Tae Kwon Do test yesterday. She is a green belt now.

The not so good news is my hubby has to go for spine surgery on February 27, 2013.

Chinese New Year (CNY) falls on February 10 this year. It is the water snake year. Due to the weather, I was unable to go for my nail and hair appointments before CNY. I got my manicure and pedicure on the second day of CNY. At the same time, I had my eyebrows waxed. Today, I got my hair color and cut.

Hope everyone is doing well. emoticon
