Peope Lights

Tuesday, July 01, 2008

I had an epiphany...

While alone and fishing I think I get time to finally reflect and look over the landscape of my lifetime. One of the keynotes that surfaced was Dortha... My dear friend. Who's now passed away.

She came into my life when life didn't make a lot of sense and I had a boodle of questions. I came into her life when she needed a friend who'd be there for her in her declining years. We together, made a perfect pair. Together we discussed the deeper things in life and came to conclusions which helped clarify the puzzles we faced in the past. It gave us hope for new ventures and gave us courage to keep going forward.

My Mother may have given me life, but Dortha gave me inspiration.
I've been blessed with two fabulous Mothers and am so grateful.

Life at times gives you the opportunity to be there for people, and shine like a light. Ah, you may not see it at the time you come to that spot but it will reveal itself to you afterwards... This is how it has always been for me. I never know I've actually helped someone so much until after it's all over and I get the time to reflect; that me being there at that time in that persons life was critical and pivotal. Let me add here that it was also pivotal for myself as well. It's always about growth and change.

People Lights are like angels but in human form. They go where their hearts tell them to go and give to whom their hearts compel them to minister to. We all have this blessing and opportunity in life. It's just more fun if you are aware that you are a "People Light"...

I've found so many people lights here at SparkPeople. So many who encourage, enlighten, support and give of themselves daily. It would be so easy to just say, "So? I don't have the time"... And keep walking. But, here I find such a wonderful support group. If I'm hurting all I need to do is reach out and grab someone. They really do care.

Thank you to all you People Lights out there who have lifted me up with unfailing arms and words... Peace and Blessings...

I have never heard of "people lights" but I know exactly what you mean when you describe them. I, too, have found many of them here on SP. Thanks for giving me the enlightenment so I can reflect on the "people lights" in my life.

What I want - What Do I want?

Thursday, June 26, 2008

In the middle of any construction job you sort of stand back and view the progress. Even if the plans are all drawn and the paperwork finished showing the details, you still have to tweak it along the way.

This is the part of change where I ask, "Is this going the way I want it too?" "What do I want now?" "Where am I going with this?" "What's important to me?" Usually I'm surprised how little I know about myself in the process and I have to sit and think for quite a while; deciding what those answers are.

Last night I did the Motivational Quiz here at Sparkpeople. It really startled me how little time I took knowing what I actually felt was important to "ME".

Here is the result of the "Weight Loss" Motivational Worksheet

Fit into “that dress”
Look younger
Wear a swim suit on the beach
Firm up what I have
Stop avoiding mirrors
Keep my thighs from rubbing
Look better naked!
Have my clothes fit better

Play and be active with my kids
Stick around to see my grand kids grow up
Do more active things with my spouse or significant other

Live longer
Have more energy
Climb stairs without being winded
Not feel/get sick all the time
Get back into playing a sport (soccer, softball, SCUBA DIVING.)
Have a more active lifestyle (biking, hiking, camping, gardening, etc.)
Feel and be stronger
Lower my blood pressure

Be more confident in myself, with better self esteem
Be able to tie my shoes
Put my pants on while standing
Be a more confident public speaker
Relax around other people and be myself

If you haven't taken the quiz which is listed in your spark points section please do. It might help you reaffirm the direction you are taking or help you decide which way you want to go.

Also... (Way off topic here)...

I want to encourage you all to BLOG! Yes, Blog... Remember keeping a diary when you were younger? Some call it a Journal now. Same thing but it's more fun (grin). It might seem stupid but let me tell you, knowing you are typing out your soul will help you keep honest with yourself and it will also (perhaps) help someone along the way who (unknown to you) reads your blogs...

Hey It's EASY to pretend you are a mouse out there and not participate. Just peeking over the heads of others seeing what they are doing and saying. MAKE Some NOISE! Be a part of something! Challenge yourself to dive in and become what you really want!

When you say nothing... It's much easier to do nothing...

Build your Sparkpeope pages! Actually type up something about yourself! Yes we read them... Yes, it's a bit scary being honest, but give it a shot, and you might exercise some old fears and grow stronger.

Do you think I actually want to say all I do here? Well, not always, no. However, being totally honest and open in my blogs helps me along the way. It reminds me of who I am inside and what I really do want. It also gives me a forum to blow off and be angry or express my hearts cry...

The only person you really are hiding from and cheat is you.

Much Peace and Blessings,

Weighing less

Wednesday, June 25, 2008

Hello anyone reading this...

With the tools on SparkPeople I'm able to keep track of my food intake a lot better. It's less headache in the long run to use SP.

Since March I've lost 21.5 lbs even though my loss shows less on spark.
Mostly that is because when I put in my start weight and began I didn't actually "begin".. I kept eating myself silly until I weighed 230. Then it hit me.. dang it! I'm even heavier now! Moan....

So, anyhow, I've gone from 230 - 208.5 which is 21.5 lbs reassigned off my body and out in the cosmos somewhere away from me! :)

Am I feeling better? Well, yeah and I can see some changes. Mostly I see my feet again through my cleavage. Ya know when you look dowwwwwwwwn and actually see toes? LOL Yeah that... Um, I can see a much flatter tummy and don't look 7 months pregnant. I don't get as tired when I'm working in the garden. I can squat down without turning beat red in the face.

Likely the biggest change is that I feel in control of my life again. It's amazing how this has effected my confidence level. Knowing inside that I can be any size I wish to be and will be is a real free feeling. I'm not in bondage to food now. I was...

So, like any other weight loss program there are pitfalls and successes. And each one I'll meet and deal with as they come.

Here's wishing us all a very happy success story and a new life.

Peace - Mino emoticon emoticon

Program Note On loosing weight...

Tuesday, June 24, 2008

On loosing weight...

I remember one thing I did when I lost 98 lbs was that occasionally I'd venture out into foods I'd omitted during the program. I'd be oober good for about 3 months, then I'd just eat whatever I craved for about 3 days. This did several things for me.

1. I get to eat the poop I loved- occasionally.
2. It changed my need to cheat.
3. My metabolism didn't get the idea I was starving myself.
4. My colon would empty out, which is often a problem with fiber rich diets.
5. I could use that time to play and enjoy life with my thin husband who loves to go out and get an ice cream. We'd just make a night of it and get nasty food and get ice cream after wards.
6. it reminds me to live...

After this little "vacation" I'd simply go back into my usual program habits.

By the way, this isn't a feed fest. It's just inserting more of the foods you ordinarily would omit almost totally. It also isn't gorging yourself for three days. It means, you don't need to weigh and measure every little thing. It means you can have that brownie or eat a piece of cake. It doesn't mean you can eat the full pan of brownies or eat a whole cake....

Instead of having 1200-1500 calories a day you might be having 1800 a day for 3 days.

On the morning of the 4th day, your rump better be back on your program for weight management or you'll figure out very soon you blew it and need to get a grip fast.

Some people aren't able to do this as easily as I do, and should make their own version of this to suit them as individuals. We're all different and have different needs.

Sending you all successful energy!

Yep it really is individual and situational. Everyone no matter who, has to find their own unique way.

I hate green tea too... LOL

Yes... we are absolutely all different. I could not follow the same program as you because of my "all or nothing" attitude. I would find it very hard to get back to the "plan" if I ate more for 3 days. I do, however, want to start drinking green tea again. I think that really helped me in the past. The only thing is... I hate green tea!! Oh well... we all have to suffer through some things, right? You're doing great by the way!!

I'm Lazy

Tuesday, June 24, 2008

I realized while my computer was out how lazy I've gotten. Heck, I realize how dependent we are on computers! Gezzzzzzz..... I realized how entertaining this is and that it beats writing with a pen. OK, so that also led me to wonder what we'll be like in 51 more years when people no longer correspond with pen and paper at all. Gad! No Books on shelves, no old letters that we lovingly try to keep, no old records of documents.... No old recipes written by Granny where they might be splattered with gravy or cake batter. Man, what are We thinking?!

Maybe going back to basics more would be a good idea...
And how about adding into our society some of the old values we use to have? What happened to getting to know your neighbor? Fix a welcome to the neighborhood dinner? Visiting people who live in your area just because it's the thing to do? God, being a good friendly person has even gotten to be Taboo! Not only do we want to be left alone (yes me too), but we don't welcome anyone anymore. Oh sure we do at Church. We're supposed too. It's expected of us. Just a brief little encounter and we're done for the day. Sort of sterile and we don't see any real harm in that brief interaction do we?

It's going to be very hard to change as a person. I frankly don't care much for my neighbors. Maybe I'll take them a flower they can plant in their yard. Maybe it will help heal someone somewhere along the way. I'll also get some good walking in... (grin)
