Help needed for a CLUTTER-BUG!

Wednesday, November 14, 2012

I'm a clutter bug and a procrastinator in need of some helpful encouragement. I'd appreciate any and all helpful comments on de-cluttering...

Thanks.

Thanks for all the great comments! I really needed them. I have actually filled up about 2 of the large "blue" Sacramento recycling containers with paper stuff (old magazines, reports, mail, ancient books, etc. ), now have 2 big boxes of stuff to for donations, and 3 boxes of stuff I'm setting a side for garage sale in January.

I also struggle with clutter, and have been working on clearing it out of my life for some time now. It's a slow go for me, but I'm definitely making progress! Besides Fly Lady, there is Clutterers Anonymous. Watching The Hoarders on a regular basis helps too ... LOL!

Small steps every day. Just like weight loss. Commit to cleaning/decluttering 1o minutes every day. No matter what. If it's the last thing you do before bed, make it happen. Frequently, 10 minutes turns into longer. Also, don't be afraid to let "stuff" go. If you haven't used it, picked it up to look at it or acknowledged its importance within the past year, get rid of it. Take three boxes--one for items you will keep, one for usable items you will donate and one for items you will throw away. Start at one corner of one room, or your coffee table, or kitchen table and focus just on that task. Don't worry about putting it away until you have sorted for 10 minutes. Then put away those things you are keeping--in their permanent place. If you don't have a permanent place for an item, reconsider keeping it. Put the items you are donating in a bag and the items you are throwing away in the garbage.

It's just a start. But be committed to daily small projects. It will eventually come together.

Trust me, after you get rid of everything you no longer need or haven't used in ages, you'll feel so much better! Bring some things (like clothes, books) to a consignment shop if you can, or better yet, donate some stuff.

Back in Sacramento

Sunday, November 11, 2012

Hi all!

Sorry about being MIA for so long :-/

But as I wrote earlier my family is in process of moving to farm in West Virginia. At the end of September we moved most of the furniture from our Sacto home to the farm with the help of my parents. In early October we sold our cabin in the El Dorado National Forest (bitter sweet life event). Then hubby & I drove a Penske moving truck, with the cabin furniture & my 3 cats (!!!###***!!!) hauling my beloved "beater truck" -to begin service as our "farm vehicle" in WV. Hubby flew back to work in Sacto and I drove back (for the 3rd time this year) by myself hauling our small trailer. Ahhhh... the stories I could tell you. Next we were off to New Orleans to attend nephews wedding Nov. 2nd, catch up with our Louisiana family & friends and try to support the LSU Tigers game against the Crimson Tide.... -yep, we are depressed about loosing that game.

But I'm back in town for a while and wanted to touch base with everyone. Hope you are all doing good :-)

Love to all!
-Mim

I sure hate to see you go! But wishing you all the luck & happiness on the farm. Are you going to make it a working farm?

There's nothing I love better than a road trip but the moving part is rough! Sounds like a very busy time! Good luck on the farm.

Having a great August :-)

Sunday, August 26, 2012

Hi all, I hope that you are all having a great August :-)

My sister's family from Virginia came out for two weeks and we managed to get trip up to our family cabin in El Dorado County; got to take them up to Silver Lake to swim in the potholes -they loved dead man's hole LOL!! Then there was boating and swimming at Silver Lake as well. I love hot august days and swimming or just getting wet in our cold sierra lakes.

My two favorite cousins from Arizona came up to Sacramento for the 1st time to visit. We thoroughly enjoyed a great walk in Old Sacramento followed by dinner on the river.

My vegie garden is finally starting to produce (I had to plant things late this year). So have happily been weeding and chatting with my fellow community gardeners, ahhhhhh, there's nothing like a home grown tomato.

Anyway, I was wondering what you all have been doing this month.

Ciao for now,

Mim

So good to see you again. Indeed August is a great month. I have not been doing much sparkin'... But have been doing some fun things.

Today I made Gazpacho from some wonderful California tomatoes I found at the produce shop and love the freshness for an afternoon snack.

Happy gardening my friend.

Took my grandson & his friend camping up in the Gold Lakes country (I should blog about that, huh?) Other than that, just trying to keep up with everything. Job hunting, trying to sell stuff on line, keep the yard & garden from dying in the heat, etc. It's been a great August -- except for the heat.

Glad to see you're having such a good August! I've been busy at work and running just for the sake of running.

Hope your garden produces a bounty for you!

5 bonus points today

Tuesday, July 24, 2012

I'm trying to track my food better this week and when I went back to my spark page to log in my afternoon snack (animal crackers & an apple) I got a bonus spin for 5 extra points. It's funny how the bonus spin & points puts a smile on your face :-)

Mim update...

Sunday, July 15, 2012

Hi all -

Just wanted to give you an update. The end of May and most of June my dad has been in a critical condition. The end of June we had a brush fire at our cabin property we are trying to sell. There's several other significant things that are going on as well but just too complicated to share here. Sorry about just not having the time or spiritual energy to be a good Sparker or team member or leader.

-Sabrina

DADS DETAILS.
The Friday before memorial day we were up at the cabin and my dad collapsed and had to have ambulance take him to ER at Marshall Medical Center in Placerville CA. He was ultimately admitted to the ICU there to try to get his vitals stabilized. It was touch and go (literally calling family to get ready for his death), while we continued to pray for him and ask our family and spiritual friends to pray for him. My mom & I traded off spending the night with him on the ICU.

In response to prayers he improved and was able to be transfered to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento after 8 days. He then spent another 7 days on UCD Cardiology unit for a variety of tests, and differing opinions about the best way to treat his heart condition in light of his other medical issues (diabetes, kidney failure, etc.). Since there was no consensus, they sent home to wear an heart 'event monitor' for a month so they could gather more specific information to help with the assessment. On the 3rd day home he had 2 significant chest pain events and had to use his nitroglycerin. On the following Tuesday he was told to go back to the emergency room to be admitted to cardiology again.

His medical team finally decided that he need to have a dual pacemaker for both upper and lower heart chambers and a defibrillator. So they did the operation and sent him home to recuperate. Unfortunately he caught Clostridium/C. difficile bowel infection -an antibiotic associated diarrhea ... poor dad. He is still dealing w/C. difficle today.

My thoughts and prayers for you and your family at this very difficult time. I knew he was not in the best of health for some time and that you were spending most of your time dealing with family issues.

My heart goes out to you and yours. Know that you are loved.
God loves you and we do too.

Stay in touch, if ever so briefly and let us know how things progress.

Love
Viv
