Day 2 - Accountability & overcoming fear of THE SCALES

Wednesday, February 16, 2011

Since my 2/14 program update, I decided to blog every day for 30 days about trying to be more accountable. I know that I may not be able to blog when we head up to the cabin (no internet up there). Happy to report I kept w/my updated program & short term goals.

I'm not the best food tracker, and yesterday I was out and about getting my beater truck smogged and other errands and found my self hungry at lunch time at the McClellan BX & ended up grabbing a Whopper Junior and ice tea. I didn't feel good about that choice, but when I logged it on the food tracker was happily surprised that it was only 260 calories (I thought it was more like 350 cals -who knew?)

This morning I stopped by CHERWHOAH's 2/25 blog: "The dangers of having a scale inside the house ..." because I hate scales! It's a funny blog (who else out there keeps their scales in the garage???). But after reading it I thought it was time to get my big ol' bootie back on the scale and see how much I've gained back by not being accountable this past year.

GULP: it was 268 pounds.

I am so sad & disappointed with how much I've let myself down..... I've got to take some time today to think about this more, will try to finish up this blog later.

:( I'm sorry the scale wasn't friendly, but at least you know where you are right now. I thought i was lighter when i did my first weigh-in. Glad you're staying on track with your program!

I wanted to go to the walk at arden! I work pretty close to there, but i have dinner with my parents and grandma on Mondays and Wednesdays :(

I also notice when i log into SP more often i'm more successful because if i do have a bad streak, it doesn't last for very long due to my reflecting on here.

We know the scale is just a number, but I need it to keep myself accountable. I also use the nutrition tracker to keep myself accountable. I have to put time into this in order to be successful....maybe you need to set aside a few minutes to plan your food for the day. The last time I ate something BEFORE I figured it out it was a huge learning experience for me. I learned NOT to do that again because I decided it wasn't worth it for me.

Suggestions to get yourself back on track and into a pattern:

* Login in to Spark everyday (you've already planned that - Way to Go!!
* Plan your meals for the day
* Pack healthy snacks and keep them in your purse or car so that when you are out and about you don't have to sucuumb to the fast food craze
* Move every day
* Weigh yourself, you have to decide how often ... every couple of days?.....once a week?...
* Reflect on what happened every day and what you learned
* Be positive and if you "stub your toe" don't beat yourself up, switch it around into a positive learning experience and really learn from it - what works for you

Here's a few suggestions that have been working for me.

Good luck on beginning your journey again.

Day 1 Trying to be more accountable

Tuesday, February 15, 2011

Yesterday I updated my program, so today is my new "Day 1" of trying to be more accountable to myself.

Happy to say I was up at 5am (easy to do on my hubby's work days cuz his alarm goes off at 4:30am); got my prayer & bible study (PBS) in; and have logged in to Spark. I've got quite a few things to get done today; so will be back later this evening to update this blog. I'm hoping that I'll get some Spark streaks going this week, like logging on & drinking my 8 glasses of water for 7 days. We'll see.

Thanks for the comments on yesterdays blog, I'll be getting back with a few of you later this week for specific help requests. I've decided to keep my program & goals posted at the end of each blog this February as my own little reminder.

It looks like you have things down to a great plan. All of your goals are very reachable and you certainly have the right attitude. I wish I had some Sparkpeople I could meet up with for inspiration, that would be awesome.

SOS: For Encouragement & Accountability

Monday, February 14, 2011

CALIKIKI inspired a new SacSparkles team goal of commenting on a blog a day, or 7 blogs week. So today I read MRSBIGDOG916's 2/14 blog about her daunting commitments to family/work, her renewed commitments to herself and a new schedule she's going to try out. At the end she says:

"PLEASE!!!!! I will need ENCOURAGEMENT and ACCOUNTABILITY in order to do this!!!!! And I'm asking for help!!!! So PLEASE help me. "

This of course got me to thinking about all of us and our need for encouragement & accountability. Then I got to thinking that I definitely need some accountability this month (I'm such a procrastinator, and my road to obesity has definitely been paved w/tons of 'good intention bricks').

I reviewed my Spark Page goals/program and tweeked them a little and will be trying to be more accountable to myself this coming month, and would appreciate your encouragement & accountability too.

Glad to have SPARKED your blog today!!!!! I'm willing to meet once per month with you for some encouragement and taking a walk or hike somewhere close by, even Bible study.

I don't know what area you are in but Sacramento has some AWESOME parks...Effie Yeaw www.effieyeaw.net, William Land, McKinley, Elk Grove Park (I actually live in ELk Grove) and meeting at a school to walk the track would be another option. Just tell me when. emoticon

Hummingbirds sipping nectar from manzanitas today

Monday, February 14, 2011

I had a wonderful day in the garden watching hummingbirds sipping nectar from the large 'Dr. Hurd' manzanitas. The manzanitas at the native plant garden started blooming in early January and I just love the pretty white to pale pink clusters of blossoms they produce. They also have a very delicate sweet smell that is just lovely.

Another interesting plant in bloom at the garden is the California pipevine/dutchman's pipe (Aristolochia Californica) growing up on the trunk of the redwood in the north part of the garden. We have a "white-n-black striped cat" (ie. skunk) that lives next to the redwood; hence the little sign about cats...

Sunday was a beautiful day - I spent it working in my yard. Hummingbirds, daffodils, crocus budding, tulips coming up. My idea of heaven.

I saw an Annas hummingbird on my walk up the American River Parkway last Friday. I need to get my feeders set up!

Lovely photos!

I have a lemon tree right outside my bedroom window. Once in a while, I get a hummingbird show when the lemon blossoms are out. It is one of my favorite things to watch.

Pottery for the Soul & an updated profile pic

Wednesday, February 09, 2011

I've limited my SP team memberships to 8 teams, but tend to spend most of my time on the SacSparkles, SparkSacto, & Shabbat Keepers team sites. This week I decided to go through my teams to see if I should drop some. In the end I could not drop any of my teams and had a great time catching up with the 'Pottery for the Soul' team.

After cruising the pottery team page, I decided to pull out a few of my "old" ceramic pieces and take a few photos to share w/my pottery friends. One of my ceramic pieces is a vase with dancing women around the main body.

Looking at it again, reminded me about this February SacSparkles meet up event which is to focus on including dance & music with our regular exercise. So I was inspired to change out my profile photo this year with this vase as a gentle reminder to myself that to achieve a healthier happier me I need to include creativity (be it pottery, dance, etc.) & with my healthy exercise and eating goals.

So here's to a more creative year for all of us.
