Been to the garden today & bicycling too!

Wednesday, July 14, 2010

I made it out to the garden this morning to do some weeding and watering. I put the peppers & tomatoes in late so nothing is ripe yet (procrastination got me this year). I also got on my bike and cruised the neighborhood for about a half hour.

Things are getting hot so am back inside now trying to clean house a bit. Hope all are doing well.

Haven't done a garden yet. Need to put up mega barbed wire against antelope, cattle and the neighbor's horses. But is encouraging to read others' experiences!

Nothing in my garden is ripe yet either. I was really excited to see that I have lots of green tomatoes, green oranges and little green peppers. I hope they all live long enough to ripen. Every once in a while a deer manages to get in our back yard and have himself a nice salad! I think we've successfully cut off all points of entry, so I am keeping my fingers crossed. This is my first garden and everything is sure taking it's time to develop! Just like in my weight loss program, I guess I need to learn not to procrastinate and learn to be patient!

Love Jamba Juice a little too much in this heat...

Tuesday, July 06, 2010

Well the HEAT has brought out my weekness for Jamba Juice Razmatazz Smoothies.

I really love them, but they are just packed w/sugars & calories (Power size = 620 calories, original size 493 cals, & small is 337 cals). I got a powersize yesterday because "I was working in garden", but when I started posting it on the food tracker I started to think that I better come up with some lower calorie icey treats -because it looks like we have a long hot summer ahead.

Sooo, please send me your suggestions & recipes for cool low cal summer treats.

thanks

Try a Berry Fulfilling at Jamba Juice. I think a 16 oz. is only about 160 calories. Not sure what the largest size is, but I know it is not extremely bad. Tasty too.

I stick with the all fruit and 16 ounce only!!! Add whey protein and it fluffs it up so it looks like you are getting more. (They usually put it in the next size up cup.) I usually get the strawberry whirl or the new five fruit frenzy. Yummy and ok on occasion - moderation is key remember.

You can make it thru summer - here's one of my faves to make at home

1 cup vanilla soy milk
about a 1/2 cup frozen strawberries, peaches or blueberries
1 scoop vanilla whey protein
blend well sometimes you may have to add a little more soy milk

I've also used raspberries and chocolate whey powder

Use your imagination and just throw stuff together, if you don't like soy milk you can use vanilla yogurt and a little plain milk.

Try something new and remember to ENJOY!!!!

    LOL!!

Yep, I'm ditching the "powersize" today!!! and will be trying to stay clear of Jamb Juice for the rest of July.

Jamba can be okay if you do it in moderation and pick the all-fruit smoothies. The pomegranate paradise is oh so nummy. Just a thought from a fellow razmatazz lover.

And that moderation, unfortunately means powersize is no longer in my vocabulary. emoticon

I have no recipes to share. Just a bit of encouragement to STAY CLEAR OF JAMBA JUICE shops.......Make one up at home without that extra sugar from the sherbet or sorbet. Maybe use some low fat/non fat yogurt instead.?? emoticon

Saying good bye to our dear sweet Bella

Saturday, July 03, 2010

This week has been a tough one for my hubby and I, because we had to put down our dear sweet Australian shephard, Bella today. She was a bossy girl, and at pool parties when she started hearding guests back to the patio area, she was known to nip a guests bootie if they did not respond appropriately to her gentle nudges.

Bella was 16 years old, and brought us a lot of joy during her years with us. She was full of mischief and life till the end. But she was in pain, and was having major difficulty getting up and walking due to her arthritis, hip displasia and other elderly dog health issues. There's been a lot of crying this week and especially today, but we know that she's in a better place now and no longer in pain.

Bella and our other dog Bubba always loved to go up to our cabin. They would run free with all the other "mountain dogs" that had become their buddies over the years. Funeral services will be at 10am tomorrow at our cabin in the woods,

Mim

So sad, but Bella had a wonderful human family during her life. From your description, she sounds like my old chow chow mix, Osa (nickname Oh-see-bear). I had her down a couple of years ago and she was around 14 and ailing. My husband and I went into the room and held her during her last moments. I wept all weekend!

But we do what we need to do as loving and responsible dog owners. My condolences.

I am so sorry. I know how our pets become our family and how difficult it is to see them go. You know in your heart that you have done the right thing for Bella. She loved you so much, and she would have wanted it this way. My fondest thoughts for your and your family. Make it a nice time at the cabin and enjoy all that surrounds you.

Photos from Ca. Native Plant Demo-Garden

Monday, June 28, 2010

As some of my Spark friends know, I volunteer at California Native Plant Demo-Garden within the Sacramento Historic Cemetery at 1000 Broadway. I was out there yesterday and had my cell phone camera with me and decided to take a few photos. I was surprised with the quality of the pictures.
