Remembrance Day...

Wednesday, November 11, 2009

My oldest son, who is now 17, joined the Canadian Armed Forces Reserves when he turned 16. This year he volunteered to take part in the Remembrance Day Ceremony, and walked in the parade with his unit.

I went to the ceremony (didn't see a lot, there were so many people). I did manage to take some photographs afterwards.

The cenotaph in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada:

In Flanders Fields
by John McCrae, May 1915

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

It seems the meaning of Remembrance Day has really sunk in for a lot of folks these past few years.

Your son is growing up fast. You must be so proud of him.

Thanks for the pics. I did not get a chance to visit the War Memorial this past fall. Funny, I always take a really good look at those faces, expressions, details. What an amazing sculpture. I love that monument.

Thanks.

Long, busy day....

Sunday, November 08, 2009

What a long day!

My oldest son decided to buy me a new flat screen monitor last week. I came home and found it connected to the computer. It's great. The problem was that my computer was so old that the screen resolution didn't work with the new monitor, so all the images were stretched out.

Using this as an excuse, I went out bought a new computer yesterday. We went to pick it up today, and then we headed out in search of a new desk. What a task. OH BOY. We finally ended up lucking out and being the first to see a new desk being placed in the "as is" section at IKEA. The desk was reduced because the box was damaged. The staff built it, and dragged it out to the scratch and dent, and we saw it and snatched it up. Regularly priced at 239 dollars, we got it for 139. What a deal.

We had to disassemble it to get it home, and then once we did get home we had to move the old computer and desk to make space for the new. Not fun at all. .

Everything is in place now, all is well, and my kids are happy.

Life is good.

Wow, Mimmica! That was a deal or maybe I should say a steal! and Think of all the calories you burned disasembling and reassembling the desk and computer.

Don't you just love it when you're at the right place at the right time?! I need a desk (and computer also) but I am too cheap to pay hundreds of dollars for a pressed wood desk...have you ever taken a good look at the "insides" of furniture? CHEAP!!! and very expensive. So I won't buy my much needed desk until the price is right.

Oink...

Saturday, November 07, 2009

TOM started yesterday afternoon, and this morning I weighed in at 233.0. Which means that I managed to maintain my weight! YAY!

Today was not such a great day, eating-wise. I went way over my calories, but that's ok. I'm going dancing tonight and will counter-balance the extra food. I should get in a minimum of 60 minutes of dancing (non-stop) and anything after that is a bonus!

I'm bouncing back on track as of this moment, and this coming week is going to show another nice drop in poundage.

The pink dress...

Friday, November 06, 2009

Ok, as promised, the photos...

With a friend....

Dancing... (yes, I have a spot on my dress... I went to the washroom, and when I leaned to wash my hands, the counter was wet, and my dress touched it.)
