For the last 4 weeks I have been doing the "tame your sweet tooth" challenge. I decided that when I started it would be a good time to start trying a low-carb diet. It went very well. In fact I hve a bar of lindt chocolate in my house right now that I bought after a day of cycling and hiking as a treat, and I have only eaten 3 squares. Previously it would have been eaten on the journey home from the shop.
I find that I don't crave sugary things any more. It is good in two ways, it is healthier, and it will save money. I used to spend a lot of money on sugary treats and drinks. Especially since a lot of gluten-free treats are very expensive compared to normal foods.
While out on my aforementioned cycling and hiking day I went past a grocery shop and the craving I had was not for the chocolates and fudges inside, but for the satsumas. That was a really good moment for me. I was starting to become worried that I would not be able to give up chocolate, but I have.
The last few days I have been quite ill with stomach issues, and to try to resolve them I've had to resort to eating more carbs that I ought to on this diet. I was concerned that eating more carbs would induce sugar cravings, but so far it hasn't, which gives me hope that once I reach my size and fitness goals I will be able to a resume a more usual diet without immediately reverting to old habits.
