I'm disappointed in you Sparkpeople (the company not the members)

Wednesday, April 09, 2014

I just sent this email to Spark. If you agree with me and also paid for the app please pass on your disappointment to Sparkpeople. Their email is support@sparkpeople.com

-----------
I purchased the android app a few months ago and today I see the article that it is now being offered for free. Not only free but a much needed improved version is being released for free. This is so disappointing. Is Spark going to do anything for those of us that purchased it? I'm not talking about sparkpoints either. I know one thing this has taught me. NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM SPARK!!!! I know many others feel the same way Spark really shot themselves in the foot with this move.

Don't get me wrong I am glad that the app is free now. It will allow more people to benefit from Spark and I love the tools and the support that Spark offers. I am just very disappointed and a little pissed off about being ripped off. That is exactly what it comes down to. Spark has ripped off many people and it is unacceptable.

Do the right thing Spark, show all of us that are disappointed that you don't care about just getting more people on your site to see the ads. Show us that you still care for the members that have been here for the long haul and were willing to support Spark with our hard earned money.

Thank you,

Hi, got your message about how you paid $4 for the app less than a month ago. I would be frustrated too! It would have been nice if SP had a "coming soon" message that the upgrade was coming...and even better if they said it was free. I would feel like I had wasted my money. I guess you have to consider it a donation to a good cause. Bummer on the timing of it all.

I understand your frustration. I think of it this way...If I paid $2.99 for an app and I had it for 3 months do you think it was worth $1 per month to have access to SP on a mobile device for those 3 months? If I didn't use the app, I would be more annoyed but the cost was pretty minimal and it was my own fault if I didn't use it enough to make it "worth it".

I'm glad there is an update and that I can get it for free! And I would much rather see ads on the site than pay for a membership. Just my opinion. Hope this doesn't sound condescending...if it does I apologize.

Hope you have a nice evening. emoticon

Weird walk

Wednesday, February 26, 2014

My schedule had me walking today. Doing the walk my way 5k program and today I only needed to walk 30 minutes. I didn't really want to do it today but the more I thought about it the more I felt like just get it over with. I was actually starting to feel a little guilty about not doing it. So I did.

It was a weird one. My right leg just did not want to get loose. My calf was really tight and I stopped a couple times to stretch it. It just never seemed to want to loosen up, no pain and only mild discomfort and didn't get any worse so I kept going. About 2/3's through the walk it was still tight but moving easier and I even thought about going more, but decided to be smart and call it good with my 30 minutes.

So far it may not have been my most comfortable walk but it was the fastest. At the end of the 30 minutes I had 1.63 miles done. I know the next 30 minutes would be a little slower but at that pace I will meet my goal of finishing my first 5k in a hour or less.

So overall it was a pretty good walk.

GET OUT & STAY THE HE** OUT!!!!!

Wednesday, February 26, 2014

10 lbs. gone after 2 1/2 weeks. I know the pace will slow down but was not expecting that much that fast. I figured a month for that not a couple weeks.

I have been down this road many times but this time is different. It feels different. It will be different. A few weeks ago I stepped on the scale and I was 100 lbs. heavier than I have ever been. It was like a slap in the face. I think that was the final straw, I know that was the final straw, that is making it different this time. I will win this time.

You have kept me warm. You have helped/caused me to hide. You have fueled my shyness in public situations. You have hurt my back. You have hurt my knees. You have kept me from enjoying the things that I have wanted to enjoy. I am done with you. 10 of you are out. NOW TAKE YOUR OTHER 90 FRIENDS AND GET THE HE** OUT AND STAY THE HE** OUT. YOU WILL NOT BE MISSED.

Woo hoo! Mike, you rock!!! Very proud of you & love your blog. I wonder how many of us here on Spark would agree that we've used our weight to hide from people/things/pain etc. Having that positive attitude is one of the best tools to losing weight & sticking with it. Glad to have you in my corner! Keep up the great work :)

Way to go MIKEYCO! I think your kids are a fantastic reason to lose the weight. And so many more reasons, too. Especially that mountain bike. I bet you will find your back pain improving and knees feeling better. i am in the same way, got up to 317# and said stop!. I am now at 260 and would love to get around 220. So, if I may be of any encouragement to you, I think you are on your way to success. keep pushing it.

NSV for today's exercise

Thursday, February 20, 2014

I wasn't feeling all that great today. I think mostly from a lack of sleep. Just kept waking up every hour or so. Anyway I do the 5k my way walking program and I planned on doing a walk today. I only needed 25 minutes but it is very windy putting the wind chill too low to have a comfortable walk outside. Not feeling all that great I didn't want to do the treadmill (so boring) or the exercise bike (needed to get a walk in), and any other excuse I could think of.

So I just decided to do the treadmill and get it over with. I was actually feeling worse not getting my walk in than just blowing it off and hoping to be able to do it tomorrow. So I got on the treadmill and about half way I just couldn't do it. So instead of just giving up I walked around the house for the last half. Sounds easier than it actually is. My house is only about 50 feet long with really only one path to walk. But I did it. After I figured it out. It was a slow walk only about 2mph so it took me 40 seconds to do a lap (yes I timed it). So at around 15 minutes of walking back and forth I did about 25 mind numbing laps.

BUT I DID IT. Still don't feel all that great but I do feel a bit better knowing I got my walk in.

EVERY small step (even those 2 mph ones) bring you closer to where you want to go - good for you for hanging in there and making it happen!

That is fabulous! I am proud of you :) Those are the workouts that mean even more... because you didn't feel up to it, but yet you did it and completed it. Super job! Now hopefully today you'll feel better for whatever is planned! I enjoyed an outside walk yesterday but today it's pouring rain so I'm going to get on the elliptical. You are right though - they do get boring! And I have a small circle in my house that I have walked laps thru so many times this winter... stinks when we can't get outside. But at least we're doing it. So kudos to you - hope today you get a good workout in too!

1st exercise of my new start

Saturday, February 08, 2014

It was only 10 minutes, it was only the exercise bike, it was on the lowest resistance setting, it was painful, my legs felt like jelly after. HOWEVER, I got it done, now I know I can do it.

My knees hurt the entire time. I was able to find foot positions that that lessened the pain but would have to change positions every once in a while. But I was able to do it. I have a long way to get to my goals but I know I can do it.

To get there I think I am going to have to bring a few friends along with me. Aleve, ice packs, and heating pad. The four of us will get there.

You've taken the first step -- good for you! My best friend always reminds me that the hardest part of exercise is putting my shoes on --- and he's right. A beginning is a powerful thing. emoticon

You ROCK! And if it turns out the exercise bike is not the right exercise for you, you'll find something that WILL work. Hang in there!

Great job getting 10 minutes in. You broke the ice and now you just have to keep chipping away at it.
